The Silence; What It Is And How To Use It

Rate this book
Right thinking is the most important thing in life. As a man thinketh in his heart so is he. Just as a tuning fork near a piano will respond with a vibration when a key of the same pitch is struck on the piano nearby, so likewise do the bodies of men respond to proper stimulus and become in tune. By right thinking man can re-harmonize himself, can achieve health, success and prosperity. The Silence is a medium by which man comes in a closer touch with the Infinite; a medium, a tuning fork, by which man becomes conscious of his nearness to the Infinite. The Silence is the meeting place where man's spirit links with God's spirit; where spirit meets spirit and the marvel of His grace never ceases.

Some hippie nonsense.

A few good sentences about trusting God and the power of positive thought, but mostly it's weird. Proof that self-help books are not a new invention.

This book adheres to a Judeo-Christian philosophy that includes the idea that so-called weeds are evil and need to be eradicated. The use of this as a metaphor is not helpful. The thought that something is bad and needs to be eradicated because it doesn't have any immediate recognizable use is short-sighted and a self-aggrandizing attitude.

In my opinion, everything exists because it has a place in Nature. Destroying one entity has a ripple effect across the rest of Nature. "Weeds" are excellent survivors. They have what it takes to last. They are good teachers. The author tries to teach that aspects of the self need to be weeded out. Instead, I postulate that aspects of the self need to be understood and placed where they belong, not where they are currently causing problems. The problems are the messages that something needs to be addressed, not ignored and tossed aside.

I did not make it very far through this book.

I listened to it on LibriVox.

Based on SCRIPTURE Ii enjoy reading this book. The last chapter on exercise is still something I am trying to understand but overall the book is amazing and worth reading.

Weird Little Book

Filled with metaphysical nonsense. Don't waste your time with this arcane bit of sometimes grandiose, sometimes pompous, sometimes condescending "instruction"
