When Matt Owen enters college in Chicago, Illinois, he doesn't expect to find a parallel world of magic and machinery... or to be trapped inside it... or to be hounded by twisted, demonic creatures, and their dark master, who has ravaged and wounded the lands. He doesn't expect to hear the voice of a dead man guiding his steps... or to learn how to use magic... or to see rocks stand up and hear fire speak. He doesn't foresee being separated from his best friend and girlfriend... or that he kills a soldier and becomes an enemy of the state... or that the soldier's wife will be a soldier herself, hunting him hungrily. Matt doesn't know he will befriend mercenaries, much less influence them... or that the people of this new world will come to see him as a savior. And he certainly doesn't expect to find the missing piece of himself amidst all the chaos.
This book was full of youthful adventure and excitement. I specifically enjoyed the maturity growth of Matt. The next book is sure to display more character development and MAGIC!
