A Thriller, Torn from Middle-East News Headlines The Islamic Republic of Iran is within months of deploying a nuclear missile, and the United States and her allies have taken no direct action to counter Iran's challenge to Western strategic and commercial interests. Two wealthy, influential Americans, a billionaire defense contractor and a retired Air Force Major General, frustrated with government's inaction to prevent a nuclear armed Iran from becoming the dominant Mid-East power, decide to take matters into their own hands. The two men plan and bankroll a clandestine intervention in the region; a violent assault that will drastically transform the balance of power in the entire Middle-East to the advantage of the United States... and with no American 'boots on the ground.'

I was asked to review “Stone The Devil” by Jac Simensen, and while it is not the kind of novel I normally enjoy reading, I agreed to take a look. I've just finished it, and have mixed feelings. I didn't really “like” the story, nor did at any time I feel good about it. So why four stars? Because I think I understand what the author was trying to do, and he did it well.

If you compared this to a movie, it certainly isn't the big summer action blockbuster. Nor is it a strait to DVD action movie, those two being my favorite movies. This is more like the small, independent film drama. A movie that isn't a fun time to watch, but makes you think about people, life and the world we live in.

Could a handful of people in the right places orchestrate a terrible event, using ordinary people as pawns, for their own political ideals and gain? Does the end justify the means? Is the end the end, or just a piece of a continuing puzzle? What are the costs to those used as pawns? These are some of the questions this novel brings to light. It will be up to you, the reader, to determine answers on your own. Answers that might agree, or might not, with the author's.

I found the book an interesting character study, and liked that it made me think about the questions I mention above. For that reason, I'm glad I ventured away from my normal reading for a couple days and included “Stone The Devil” in this year's novels.

STONE THE DEVIL by Jac Simensen is a thought provoking thriller/suspense. Filled with terrorists,Middle East, Islamic, violence,Iranian nuclear capabilities, danger, and a clandestine intervention without any Americans stepping foot on the ground or so they thought. A retired Air Force Major General, two wealthy Americans,a billionaire defense contractor, and some influential Americans are determined to take matters into their own hands. Fast paced, thriller that is thought provoking as well as sizzling with adventure that could have been ripped from the latest headline. A great read for anyone who enjoys thrillers, suspense, action packed, and high octane adventure. I would recommend this "Stone the Devil". Received for an honest review from the author.
