This revealing look at the first forty years of the New England Patriots captures the stories of passion, power, and struggles of one of the most remarkable franchises in sports. True Pats fans know that while today the team’s owner, coach, and stadium all rank among the best in the NFL, the early years were a much harder road. For decades the Patriots was a team known for having comically inept management and ownership, as well as the worst stadium in the NFL. Now die-hard New England fans will relive the whole history of the Patriots—from past pain to present glory. This newly revised edition of Tales from the New England Patriots Sideline covers it all. Former players share the hilarious and shocking tales of the team’s early tumultuous years; the glaring absurdity of which only highlights the present golden age. With an epilogue by Bill Belichick, and newly revised to include the Patriots three Super Bowls of the new millennium, this is a must-have for any football fan.
While it was somewhat revealing, the writer never goes into full detail and glosses over some of the funnier stories that should be expanded. There are also lots of misspellings and at one point he calls Aaron Hernandez "Adam"... Overall if you are a Pats fan and never heard some of these things before it gives you a good timeline. Others should probably just walk away in my opinion.
None of the stories had depth and the writing itself was amateurish. There was very little "inside" information. Only a handful of players or key figures were interviewed or quoted and the stories are all over the place. I feel like Michael Felger wrote it over a long weekend and just cashed in on his history with the Patriots. Don't bother reading it.
The book I read was “Tales From The New England Patriots Sideline” by Mike Felger. The story starts off talking about how the patriots started off and their legacy. The first story tells of how the patriots were very poor and were beat by almost every team. The players were not very good and they had a hard time adjusting to the NFL. Most of the stories tell about their hardships as a new team with no skill, no players, and no fans. For the most part the book talked about important eras, games and stories from the players and coaches.
The franchise eventually begins to build as they introduce new eras of the team. I personally did not like the format of the story because I thought it was going to be a long story about the patriots but instead it was multiple small stories. I still enjoyed reading about the different time periods of the patriots. I would only suggest this book if you are a patriots fan or a sports fan. I would probably give this book a 3 star rating even though I like the patriots this book wasn't all that interesting to me
