Lucy Michaella Cores Kortchmar was born in Moscow and was brought to the United States in 1921 ahead of the Russian Revolution. She attended Barnard College. She wrote mystery, romance, and historical novels, and science fiction.

I wanted a quick biography and an overview of Chekhov’s contribution to literature and this book delivered. The editor did not shy away from conflicting information…what was told during Chekhov’s life and what is told now as his reputation endures. A starting place for more reading and study or a good place for a general overview to enhance reading the short stories and plays of this timeless writer.
