A sexy rock star, a determined songwriter, and a shared dream—
Seventeen-year-old Autumn can craft killer songs. It's an amazing feat considering she can't read or write. It's not that she doesn't understand how to, it's that the words won't sit still. Literally. They dance and swirl across the page. Mislabeled ADD and self-defined as stupid, she's managed to keep most people from knowing about her illiteracy with help from her mom and her best friend.
When Logan, the lead singer of Midknight, falls for both Autumn and her lyrics, he encourages her to hitch onto his rising star. It's a dream come true, but she's convinced he'll dump her when he finds out the truth. She wants to pursue song writing and hold on to Logan, but figuring out how to keep the guy, and her secret, may prove an even bigger challenge than making it through senior year.

Songwriter and a Rockstar Third Act Break up Slow Burn
I was figuring out what to read, when I got this book for free. And because the #cakeeaters are doing a new challenge, I started this review with tropes I would stick to this book. I think that this book is meant for ya readers, because for me it was a bit to slow paced plot wise. The romance was slow burn, but that's okay for me. The FMC is not one of the popular girls in high school. Because the words and numbers blur wildly together, she has trouble reading. But with the help of modern technology she can write. All symptoms made me think of ADD or ADHD and that's what her diagnose said. But it wasn't ADD or dyslexia. Very late we find out, what her problem is.
I liked the book, but I thought the plot was too slow paced.
Rockstar x Song Writer✔️ Strangers to lovers✔️ Found Family✔️
I got this book on a “Stuff Your Kindle” day and while I enjoyed certain aspects of the story and think the plot idea was really fun, I found the story to be frustrating at times purely down to the amount of miscommunication that took place between the MC and LI alongside the fact that the MC was just so negative for the majority of the story.
Autumn is a songwriter who struggles to read and write, yet lyrics are the one thing that can come to her without an issue. I loved being able to read the song lyrics that came to Autumn’s mind and I think she’s incredible, but I struggled to love Autumn herself. As the blurb mentions, she’s mislabelled ADD and self defined as stupid, that is 100% true, but instead of considering her misdiagnosis, she proceeds to call herself stupid and throw herself a pity party constantly, it was really frustrating to read, especially when I’ve related to her in some ways. It is okay to be different and to have some sort of learning difficulty, but I don’t think that was portrayed enough within the story; not until the end when she was given a correct diagnosis (that was found online by the way) compared to going to a doctor to confirm it for sure…
Logan was an absolute sweetheart and not that much older than Autumn, but I feel like there was a BIG difference in maturity levels and that while they feel as though they’re meant to be, I feel that Autumn isn’t right for Logan. They’re most definitely at different stages in their lives and while Logan is progressing fast and doing well for himself, Autumn makes it more about her and seems to struggle to trust him despite the fact that he’s barely given her a reason to until she finally gets to see him, AND EVEN THEN SHE DOESN’T COMMUNICATE PROPERLY. I don’t know if it was the minor age gap or what, but the immaturity and how quick they fell for one another just didn’t do it for me.
Despite the negatives,I would like to talk about one thing that made the story enjoyable for me and that was the relationships between band mates and family members. Not everyone has the perfect family or friendship and yet the relationships portrayed within this story were so genuine and lovely that it warmed my heart. Rachel was an ultimate BFF to Autumn and Autumn’ family have a heart of gold! Then the band mates of Logan’s? The way they welcomed Autumn in was wonderful and so kind. It really stood out and made it easier to enjoy.
All in all, I did think about DNFing this story a few times, and while I’m happy to of finished it, I don’t think it is for me.
All I can say is I want more! A coming of age book about insecurities, the importance of communication and the importance of working together. Throw in some romance and some it is a darling quick read.
Yeah, this wasn’t my type of book. Like, maybe if it wasn’t YA, and the story was a little more drama filled, I would’ve enjoyed it more. Unfortunately, I prefer a book to have a plot. The writing style also needs improvement and if you want to “write songs” in your novel, I’d suggest asking help from a songwriter, rather than trying to write it yourself, otherwise it sounds really bad and kills the vibe in the story even further.
