Discover what Duluth has lost. Through over 400 photographs and sketches of vanished homes, buildings, landmarks, industries, and residential neighborhoods, Lost Duluth takes readers on a journey through the city s past, introducing them to the people from hard-scrabble pioneers to wealthy industrialists to impoverished immigrant laborers whose ambitions and dreams built the Zenith City on a swamp and a rocky hillside at the head of the Great Lakes. A finalist for the Minnesota Book Award.
I loved this book. I live an hour north and always saw Duluth as just a big city. I knew it had history to it but I've always been more interested in my area. This book open my eyes a lot and now that I'm finished I will be taking the book with me on my next trip to Duluth to get an up close look at these buildings. This book is a must if you like history.
One of my favorite places in Minnesota! This book is chock full of photos, descriptions, maps and a whole lot more. If you’re a Duluth enthusiast, then this book will really help in locating places, homes, restaurants, gardens and more. Book is a must-have if you love Duluth ... as much as I do! 5 stars and would give it more if I could.
I lived in Duluth for almost five years of college (including one summer). This book was fascinating because I lived close to where a lot of these buildings once stood. I've always loved Duluth and, if you do, too, you should definitely check out this book.
To quote Jim Heffernan: "Anyone who has lived in Duluth for decades and those many who have discovered Duluth more recently, and are fascinated by its history, will revere this book..."
