This book is a contribution to an interpretation of the history of Kenya from the proletarian point of view. The author has attempted to give the reader in a scientific and accessible form the most important and accurate information on the people of Kenya and their history of resistance.
As an author, I know the tremendous amount of research and work it takes to write a book like HISTORY of Resistance in Kenya 1884-2002. Compared to other struggles for independence I've read about, Mau Mau Struggle in Kenya has been sidelined to say the least. Since independence on December 12, 1963, some Kenyan administrations have looked the other way as if the struggle never happened. The history is glazed over because it'd be uncomfortable for those who never participated in the struggle or who sided with the colonialists in oppressing the people.
But now there are authors like Maina wa Kȋnyattȋ who have taken up the monumental work of recording colonial atrocities and the ugly actions of the administrations that followed after Kenya's independence. The book cleared a lot of grey areas and connected dots for me regarding Kenya's struggle for its independence.
