So glad I picked this book up at my book swap party! The title and blurb on the book don't do it justice. Farrar zooms out and paints a picture of family, home and roles of men and women starting before the Industrial Revolution up to current times (the 90's, when it was written). Her analysis may be a bit subjective, but it's hard to argue that our culture has shifted from being oriented around the home to revolving around career, sacrificing marriage and the wellbeing of children in the process.

"Career...is, in fact, the new religion of the baby boomer generation. While character was once the measure of a person's value, career has now become the measure. Career has been so elevated that it has become a god, reigning over our choices and establishing our priorities. Marriage, children, friendships, even morals, are expected to bow before its demands."

She sticks to Scripture to define what it means to be a godly woman and challenges us to stand firm and not listen to the spirit of the age. Reading this book has been refreshing to my soul, as I've been questioning what is Truth about career and family, not just common sense or what my culture is telling me is right. Good read.

A great read. It reminds me of Wiley's "War for the Cosmos" but more specifically for woman. This book references some interesting historical texts that I plan to look at. I think the author had some great conclusions at the end. The authors personal voice reads a little dated (to be fair, it is nearly 30 years old).
