Dive back into the world of the Sky Riders with Book 2 of the Sparks Trilogy.
Praise for The Sky Riders "Full of action, dragons and strong female characters, it's all you could want in an epic fantasy novel" - Carlzie "Absolutely incredible!" - Lauren
Aimee Wood is a Sky Rider and with her dragon, Jess, it’s her job to protect others.
But there’s an army of Empty Warriors marching towards Aimee’s home, controlled by the shadowy Master of Sparks and with a single purpose—to destroy Kierell.
Aimee is desperate to help but she’s ostracised by her leader. Alone she discovers a hidden treasure—a secret map created by the immortal, Kyelli, founder of the Sky Riders and missing from the city for over a century.
With the city threatened and tensions rising, Aimee and her one-time bully, Nathine, set out on the trail of Kyelli—the one person who might be able to defeat the approaching army. They must race to unravel a puzzle laid down hundreds of years ago, but Aimee is opposed at every turn. She’ll have to use all her hard-won confidence if she has a chance of saving her home and stand up to friends as well as enemies.
Kerry Law is an international Amazon #1 bestselling author of epic YA fantasy books.
Kerry grew up reading fantasy in the 90s and found that there weren’t many inspiring female characters, or in some cases any female characters! Thankfully a lot has changed since then but she still enjoys redressing that imbalance by writing fantasy books full of awesome female characters.
She also has vitiligo – a skin condition which gives her patches of colourless, pigment-free skin – and this has been a big source of inspiration for Kerry. It’s what she gave Aimee, her protagonist in the Sparks series. It’s harder for Aimee, because in her world, patchy skin makes her a freak, but we know better, we know that really it makes her special.
Kerry also finds inspiration for her fantasy worlds in the magical landscapes of Scotland, where she lives. She’s convinced there are dragons living among the mountains and lochs. And she especially thinks Edinburgh is the most magical of cities and it’s the inspiration behind her Old Town Trilogy.
The Sparks series is an emotional dragon rider fantasy adventure where an outcast must rise above prejudice, bond with a dragon and claim her place among warriors. All 4 books in the series are available now.
The Old Town Trilogy is a dark urban fantasy set in an alternate 18th century Edinburgh full of magic and monsters. Books 1 and 2 are available now with book 3 due for publication in early 2026.
What a great sequel. Aimee must solve the clues on the map. She makes some new friends and vanquished some bullies. Then, to find out that heroes are fallible.
Book 2 in The Sparks trilogy, I was really keen to read this. And was not disappointed.
Following on from the suspenseful ending of The Sky Riders, this book was action packed throughout.
I loved how Aimee has progressed as a character. Holding her own and becoming the person everyone looks to for answers.
Her determination to save everyone and do the right thing is paramount in this book. Such a wonderfully well written character. And love her friendship with Nathine.
As a big fan of fantasy fiction, I love the world building in thia story. The way histories darkest secrets are revealed.
And who wouldnt want to be paired with a dragon!! To connect and share emotions on this level.
Full of action as the Empty Warrior army draws nearer to the city I couldnt put this book down. Absolutely brilliant twist at the end and I'm now eagerly awaiting the final installment in this trilogy.
I love a good YA book and the Sparks series is just that. In this second installment there is lots of action and many questions get answered. And did I mention there are dragons??!!!! Can’t wait to read the third book!
I loved this book from start to finish! the missions, the dragons, the friendships that were created but also the bullies that were stood up too. such an action packed book.
Another fab page turner, Aimme's story, has me eager to see what comes next. I love the Riders and their dragons and have become so attached. Can't wait to see how this ends.
I am absolutely obsessed with this series!! Following on from The Sky Riders and the cliff hanger ending, I ran straight to Amazon to purchase the next one, only to be amazed once again!
Aimee has progressed so much in her character and I adore her! From being a ‘freak’ to her spark shining brighter than any of them! Her determination to not give up is what makes her so great!
In the first book, I really disliked Nathine, but she’s definitely growing on me, now that her hatefulness has subsided a little and her true authentic self is coming out. She is a brilliant character with lots of sarcastic comments and humorous sayings.
I don’t have a favourite out of the other Sky Riders and leaders, just a mixture of love, annoyance and hatred for most of them. Jara and Lyrria for example… IYKYK…
Now let’s talk Dragons.. OH MY GOD 🐉 Can I have one in every colour please! Because I am obsessed with them all. Jess and Malgerus haven’t become fully grown yet, but I cannot wait to see how bad ass they become when they do!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to find out what happens next! Ttyl 👋🏼
With the Empty Warriors marching towards Kierell, the city is in disarray. Jara, the leader of the Sky Riders, is acting irrationally and denying reality while taking out her frustrations on Aimee. Aimee is convinced that the only way to save the city is to find the immortal founder of the Sky Riders, Kyelli who has defeated the Empty Warriors in the past.
In my review of the first one, I expressed that the series showed promise, but some of the glaring issues with the first book could just be bad writing rather than things to pay off later. Unfortunately it's all coming down on the side of poor writing, particularly towards the end of this book. Spoiler: I'll finish the trilogy, but I'm only hoping that she rescues the series with a brilliant last book.
Better than the first book in the series, and I loved the continued world building, but this just didn’t suck me in enough to want to continue reading. Aimee’s a well written character, but I found her journey a bit unbelievable as her character development felt rushed. I did like the whole scavenger hunt sitch, and will confess I didn’t see that twist coming. All in all, an entertaining read but not one I’ll continue on with the series.
A book like this makes for a messy house. I'm A "book snob", meaning if a book grabs me within the first page means I'll continue reading it. This book grabbed me in the first paragraph and now, after book two, I'm still enamored. I spent the whole day reading and the way my flat looks, it's quite obvious. But I'm happy to escape to another world. Thank you, Kerry Law, for the holiday.
DNF. I was not a huge fan of the leadership, specifically Jara. It absolutely doesn’t make sense why she is so bitter towards Aimee. The whole semi relationship with Lyrria also seemed unnecessary. Overall, I just wasn’t very drawn in to the book. I’m usually someone who can finish a book regardless of how cheesy/ how poorly written it is, unfortunately with this book the story line hasn’t drawn me in enough to even want to continue.
Rider’s Quest (Book 2 of Sparks Series by Kerry Law)
Just finished book 2 of the Sparks Series by Kerry Law — I am REALLY enjoying this series. Great storyline and interesting characters — I’ve loved reading about Aimee growing throughout the series and gaining confidence. I would absolutely recommend this series to folks who enjoy books about dragons and special powers!
I am really enjoying this series and seeing how the characters grow. The world is well drawn, and the relationship between the girls and their dragons believable.
I absolutely love these books, I am actually finding it hard to put the book down. It's not something I normally read. However, I read a passage and got hooked. The romance side was not over the top and a great bonus. Can't wait to read the next 2 books
I love how the story unfolds and the adventure gets more complex. The character building is so nice to read and overall it was a lovely easy to read book, I’m looking forward to the next one 🙂
