Where Jesus Walked by Ken Duncan is a photographic journey through the life of Jesus beginning with Mary in Nazareth and ending with Jesus' ascension. The problem with a book like this is so much has changed in Israel in the last 2,000 years and it's not so much the wars and conflicts but the tourism that has altered many sacred sites. Another problem is the historical accuracy of the location of sites and the many traditions that have developed over time.
Nevertheless Ken Duncan has produced a book of beautiful photos and interesting text. Duncan has collected quotes and material from multiple sources to provide comments alongside his photographs. I enjoyed the variety and the depth of wisdom in these. Occasionally there was some overlap with this approach but overall I found it enlightening.
Probably the images I enjoyed the least were those taken in the very ornate churches which now stand on some of the sites. It is such a divergence from the life Jesus led while on earth. The images I enjoyed the most were the scenery and those closest to the reality of Jesus' life.
This book had some very good pictures. Some of the writing was very good, while other parts were so-so. This book was particularly interesting to me due to my recent trip to Israel.
Photographed by renowned photographer Ken Duncan and with commentary by a diverse group of people of faith, this exquisite volume takes readers on a walk through the land where Jesus lived. See Israel in a new way, from Bethlehem to Nazareth, from Gethsemane to Calvary, the rocky tomb to the Emmaus Road to the shores of Galilee.
Walk where He walked, see with His eyes, feel with His heart . . . and make His journey yours.
A map would have been helpful in identifying where these stunning photos were taken. The scriptures accompanying the photos were appropriate, many of the various contemporary authors' quotes were not, ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime. This also reinforces the idea that it is better to quote those who have died, than those who are still alive and susceptible to disgracing themselves. The book is quite adequate w/o the quotes.
Interesting to see the modern day sites 9f the bible. To be honest I had not realised how many of the sites spoken of in the bible, are sacred sites, celebrated and preserved for those of the Christian faith to visit.
nice meditation and scripture with beautiful photography of the Holy Land. Saw this somewhere & liked it so much I bought it on amazon used...great book.
Beautiful photography and accompanying texts in this coffee table book. I will flip through it again and again recalling memories of my trip to the Holy Land.
Wonderful photos as always! This is the perfect gift book. Arresting images, thought provoking text, attractive layout. A beautifully crafted book. Ideal for quiet times of journalling or reflection, or simply to keep you company on a scenic walk or cup of coffee. (Or if you're waiting for the opportune moment like me, doing travel from the couch...)
Wonderful book with great photograhy displaying the Holy Lands. Selected quotes and Bible quotes makes this a great book for Christians. I'd like to read his new one "Where Paul Walked"...
