Wonder why the word « imagination » seems to be banished from that sort of books. They mostly relay on visualization and« feelings » but still confuse their intuitions whit the objective world. A notion like «angel » or « guide » doesn’t need to be consider as an object to exist.
There’s a tradition in parapsychology to wish to be a science and sort of use scientific tools. Von Franz in her « On Divination & Synchronicity: The Psychology of Meaningful Chance » refers to Rhine trying to prove parapsychology whit statistical science.
Not that « Awaken ... » tries to prove anything. It’s rather implicit. The book narrative does as if psychic phenomenons were facts. So, they are scientific and thus one has to work on visualization to improve her or his psychic abilities... and he’ll or she'll get « guides » and « readings » ... as if visualization were a tool that would allow to get anything from the objective world. It’s sad in the way that the « metaphysical » aspect of that implication is not an issue when it would be appropriate to make it one.
Probably because of the « practical » oriented aspect, there’s no need to develop « metaphysical » concern. Trouble is… if the roots don’t make sense well … the « practical » side won’t make more sense.
There’s another strange confusion. The notion of « subconscious » and the other conscious states seem to get all the information that are disclosed by our psychic abilities. At the same time auras, guides, angels and the likes help us getting the information on hidden realities. Somehow I can’t help wondering where the conscious states finish, where angel’s action start and to what extend my psychic abilities have effect. What would be the difference between an angel and the super-subconscious? They both can tell us where is the lost rings.
Awaken … might still be useful. It’s an amusing reading and the exercises are like any tools, they worth what one might put of assiduity in them. The personal list is very good idea. I just don't understand what it has to do whit psychic abilities. To me it belongs to self-help stuff and pop psychology.
