Zodiac Girls #2

Recipe for Rebellion

Rate this book
Danu used to have tons of friends and did well in school. But that was before her dad went away for work and left her with her cold, workaholic aunt. As a Sagittarius, Danu longs for space and company. When she can't get either, Danu rebels at school, changing from a straight-A student into every teacher's worst nightmare. When a Web site search reveals that she is a Zodiac Girl, Danu is skeptical at first, but soon her zodiac guardians are pointing her back in the right direction. Danu learns that she must take responsibility for her own happiness and that when life hands you a difficult card, it's how you play that counts.

I used to really like this series when I was about 12 (even though I had only read like one book) I don't believe in horoscopes anyway and it goes against my beliefs but I liked Danu as a character and felt I could relate to her a bit.

The cover art illustrations are so pretty and stylish and probably my favourite thing about these books.

Poor Danu. She wished her dad had let her stay at home when he went for a one-year archaeological assignment in South America. At home, Danu had loads of friends, pets she adored, was a fantastic student, and was very content.

Not so much when her dad arranged for her to live with her aunt in a tiny apartment. Her aunt doesn't like it any more than Danu does. Danu thinks that by being rebellious and not doing her school work, she will be sent back home. No such luck. Plus, with that type of behavior, people who don't know her are definitely not impressed.

When Danu decides to leave the boring, dull, and lonely apartment and walk around the boring, dull, and lonely city, she finds an area of town absolutely bursting with life. And intrigue. People seem to know her. Have been expecting her. Very eerie.

When she goes to the website of a quaint little shop she visits, she receives a message that she is the Zodiac Girl for the month. Joe claims to be her guardian for that time. He is Jupiter. She's Sagittarius. It makes sense to him, but seems very suspicious to Danu. Joe tells her she will have encounters with other celestial beings, and he is correct.

Does this mean that Joe will be able to solve all of her problems? Danu could only hope for that. It is Danu who must learn to figure out what she wants and how to take steps towards making those things happen. The planets can guide you, but you have to think for yourself. Have to decide how you want your life to be.

Join Danu on a mystical trip and mingle with the planets and stars in this out-there, fun book.

One of my favourite's in this series, I remember Danu's character very well. I love how different Gemma from Geek to Goddess was to Danu in this book, she's very feisty and rebellious but inside she is just unhappy and missing her old school. I felt that the characters were incredibly well-written and I was able to relate and empathise with the character and their situation. I loved picturing what her dreads looked like and all the pranks that she pulled too! I love home decor and interior design so this book was very satisfying to read and to picture how they redecorated each room, along with the baking. Brilliant books that have a special place in my heart as the idea of the planets in human form is so unique. I think his name was Jo but it was a long time ago, the guy from Jupiter who worked at a café, you could very easily imagine the person from the description as if they were real people. I re read the book countless times and it feels like going back to a safe haven whenever I open them, I love the style of writing as it's easy to read and feels like you are right there with the character as if you are going through everything together.

Zodiac Girls "Recipe For Rebellion" tells the story of Danu and her lonliness when she is forced to change schools and live with her aunt. As a sagittarius, Danu feels isolated and upset at the lack of open spaces, her pets, friends. Add to this a workaholic aunt and Danu is at the end of her tether and as the book cover says turns from a straight A student to any teachers worst nightmare.
However Danu is helped by the planets and comes to realize that life really is what we make of it and manages to turn her life around and is happy again
