Short novel that is fun and often funny. Rebecca decides after 20 years of marriage with two grown daughters that she wants more in life, her husband was her best friend, but without the spark. She decides she wants to find love and with a woman, which she has never tried before. Her sister tasks her with having ten one time dates before moving into a relationship, which results in some funny and tragic experiences. But HEA is around the corner. Light and fun. 3.5 stars

This was an enjoyable read. Not perfect, but certainly enjoyable. I liked the overall premise and getting to see the MC go on a variety of dates and meet a bunch of different people. This allowed for a lot of different interactions and dynamics to be packed into a relatively short novella. There were a lot of nice elements to it; the amicable divorce between mature adults who care about each other, the delightful side characters, a lot of sex positivity, cute interactions between love interests (when things went well!). It was undoubtedly funny, which was one of the novellas best features. The MC was relatively insecure at the start of the novella due to her inexperience, and I like how it was handled with open communication and honesty, with generally positive responses.

As I said, this novella wasn’t perfect (high bar though) or one of my favorite reads (although it was perfectly fine and enjoyable). Some of the writing, particularly dialogue, was a little stilted or strange. There were some minor errors, such as the name of the first date changing between mentions (Marci to Grace, somewhat confusing), but nothing too significant. The dates were (almost) all clearly amazing or terrible which resulted in a very straightforward and convenient plot. The last date conveniently being the best one was also of course very convenient and straightforward from a plot perspective. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it was very straightforward and simple. I was annoyed that Victoria (2nd date) was never mentioned again despite it being a great experience and the MC said at the time that they would be happy to date them again. I expected some degree of debate or comparison between Victoria and Heidi.

I would recommend this novella. Its short and fun, even if it isn’t perfect or particularly substantive. Novellas are often quick and to the point, so honestly it works!

This book was really weird (derogatory) about fat women and the MC definitely ended up with the wrong woman and she also very much u-hauled even though the entire premise of the book is not u-hauling.

hey, it’s Seattle…

It was the reason why I purchased this novella. I can’t say it was a friends to lovers lesbian trope. They were strangers. So, I am not sure how that tracks. And it also wasn’t truly midlife either. The MC was in her late 30’s. I love lesfic centered around Seattle because I live here. It is nice to hear about familiar places. The first book I read was “Written In The Stars” by a different author and was drawn to it because I took place in Seattle.

I liked the concept of 10 dates. Dating women can be tough and is truly hard not to fall too fast and too deep. Rebecca after being married for 18 years realized she was a lesbian. Divorced and started dating. The woman who actually intrigued me wound up being her second date Veronica. That was until she met Heidi. I saw the attraction there but it didn’t seem all that different from Veronica. Except what they did on their first dates that set them apart.

All in all, it was a decent story and moved very fast. I’m glad that they both received their true HEA.

Short and fun!

The premise of this book is so straight forward. Rebecca, mother of two college age daughters, divorces her husband, and best friend, when she tells him she's a lesbian. She's loved him since high school, but is not in love with him and they both deserve better. It's a very amicable split.

Her sister convinces her to go on ten first dates before she can go on a second date with someone because she has no same sex experience. All of their friends and colleagues set up dates for Rebecca. Some of them were ridiculous, some funny and some very adventurous.

It's a fun, quick read with a happy ending!

✔Sapphic Book Bingo Challenge 2024 🌈✨: Main Board - Coming Out Later in Life

4 stars. This was so much fun! I liked the main character, Rebecca, quite a bit and a lot of the side characters were lovely as well. Rebeca divorces her husband after she realizes she’s a lesbian so her sister and her friends challenge her to do ten dates with different women and the adventures Rebecca got into on some of those dates were fascinating. I liked the romance and HEA for her and Heidi. Very cute. This was entertaining and sexy and a great self discovery story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

what a cute book

This was really a very cute story. Realizing you’re a lesbian later in life, divorcing your husband of 20 years, telling your daughters, parents, then moving into your sister’s basement. Lot of changes.

Your married lesbian sister insists you date 10 women before going on a second date with anyone. Of course some of the dates are hysterical. Think you’ll enjoy this book it was a quick read, will definitely have you laughing.

Coming Out in Ten Dates follows Rebecca as she comes out in mid-life and enters the weird, and occasionally wonderful, world of dating as an adult. Her younger sisters’ ten first-dates challenge leads to several amusing scenes. The story arc is a little choppy in spots, likely the result of having been released in an episodic format. That aside, this is a fun read with a happy ending.

Love a good happy ending. But hated how it made lesbians seem either sex crazed or snobby witches like wtf
