The feminist revolution was supposed to make us feel better about ourselves, bringing us greater fulfillment and freedom. Yet many of us are feeling anything but fulfilled and free. Across generational lines, inside the church and out, we are understanding that we have lost the beauty and wonder of our distinctive makeup and calling as women. We are realizing that what was supposed to lift us up has been tearing down society, churches, and most importantly, our own families. There is now a new movement spreading its seeds--seeds of hope, humility, obedience, and prayer. It is a call to return to godly womanhood, and it is resonating in the hearts of women everywhere. Let its truth ring in your heart through the powerful messages of these seven beloved teachers: Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Susan Hunt, Mary A. Kassian, Carolyn Mahaney, Barbara Hughes, P. Bunny Wilson, and Dorothy Patterson. They approach the subject of womanhood from different angles and teaching styles, but throughout there runs a thread. One that will instill itself in your spirit. A thread of joy and delight with the greatness of God's created order and the part He wants you to play in His grand redemptive plan.
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth also known as Nancy Leigh DeMoss is the host and teacher for Revive Our Hearts and Seeking Him, two nationally-syndicated programs heard each weekday on over 1,000 radio stations. She is a mentor and spiritual mother to thousands of women and a leader of the True Woman movement.
From a male's perspective, this is by far, one of the best books I have read on the subject of Biblical Womanhood. The Gospel is clearly present and conveyed throughout the book. Very well balanced, and faithful to The Text. This books incises deep, getting to the root cause of the outward expressions of feminism and other unbiblical behaviors. I highly recommend this book.
I enjoyed this encouraging read---especially the bits on mentoring. I thought the points about physical beauty actually being a danger and a snare were quite interesting. I was exhorted to pray more often and more fervently. I don't think I take the power of prayer nearly as seriously as I ought to. I also really loved reading about how our position of "helper" is so important...Jesus called the Holy Spirit "another helper"---forever elevating the position of helper to a very important place! All in all, it was a very convicting and challenging book; so much so that the next reader will notice the very bent up and dog eared pages---that's from me chucking it at the wall at one point because I felt so inadequate. Thankfully, my husband and God quickly stepped in to remind me of my value and that I'm not to do this life in my own strength...only in God's. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed much of what this book has to offer. Especially as a young wife and mother, I found various parts extremely encouraging for the work God has me doing right now. One issue I had was their hate for the word "feminism." They hate the word and the movement. One of the authors even complains of the travesty of having to "breathe feminist air." While there are problems with the feminist movement, I believe their hatred of it (even in the Church) is insensitive.
I enjoyed this compilation of articles from some of today's leading Christian women. It was a refreshing and encouraging book about femininity and God's perspective of womanhood. Topics range with the challenge of living as a godly woman (in the traditional/conservative manner) in a fallen world to the joy of motherhood and mentoring as well as the liberation of godly submission.
I really enjoyed this book. There are some good chapters about submission and how it can be liberating and should not be viewed as silencing. I like learning about the feminist revolution and how destructive it really was to women and what the Bible's view is on femininity. I definitely recommend it!
This book was wonderful. I gained quite a bit of information from it. I hope to apply some of what I learned to the way I live my life, love my husband, and love and teach my children. A book I will come back to most likely.
Life changing book and there aren't too many of those, in my opinion. This is a book for all women not just married ones. I'll be reading this one again and again.
I enjoyed the variety if contributors and topics that went from spiritual to practical (although it is all tied together). The book was easy to read, enjoyable and encouraging.
Biblical Womanhood in the Home is a collection of various teachings on different aspects of Biblical womanhood, written by several different women. And let me just say, this book is incredible! I already had a very conservative view of womanhood, but through this book, I realized that some things I thought to be true, or at least didn’t think much about, are actually not what God has in mind for women. Instead, He has a beautiful plan, in which women are liberated through submission and sanctified through childbearing (whether physical children or spiritual). Every Christian woman, married or single, should read this book. I guarantee you that your outlook on life will be changed because of it.
I enjoyed most of this book and definitely see it as biblically sound and a good read for any woman. The only part that brings my review down a star was the first chapter on our role as wives (chapter 7 of the book). I agree with the points the author of that chapter was trying to give, however I don’t think she executed her explanations very well at all.
All women should read this. It clearly portrays the beauty of biblical womanhood as God intended and answers many questions women face today. In a world saturated with feminism and an anti-God view of women, this is a refreshing must-read.
This one is a keeper. The chapters “Portrait of a Foolish Woman” and “Portrait of a Woman Used by God” are worth the entire book. There are many underlined and noted pages sections that came in my used copy and I added even more.
