Standalone, HEA, first in a new urban fantasy romance series. If you enjoy Emma Alisyn's shifter romance as well as her favorite authors (Mina Carter, Grace Draven, Thea Harrison) you will love Fae Spark.
Emma is a Black/white Muslim American mom of five, ages 6-22, in her mid-forties just trying to live her best life…which usually includes coffee, wine, and an unfortunate habit of one-clicking any pretty special edition that winds up in her feed. (If you DM it, she will come.)
She likes K-pop (#army, #moa) cultivation dramas (Till the End of the Moon,) precioussss silence, and collects more makeup than she uses.
She bends knee to Michelle Sagara West, Anne Bishop, N.K. Jemisin, Grace Draven, J.D. Robb, and Nalini Singh—a nod to Sanderson, Goodkind, Eddings, McCaffrey, and McKinley.
If you are looking for romantic epic fantasy set in complex, diverse, sex positive worlds with morally gray societies, powerful anti-heroes with THAD energy, multi-racial heroines at least 35—if not 350—coming into power, and a central theme of family, both dysfunctional and supportive, then you will binge her stories..
I wanted to like this book. And it started out good, but Liana... for as "grown" as she thinks she is she was immature and at times hard to like. I was rooting for her. She was to be this strong, independent, intelligent lead. Then she purposely places herself in harms way after KNOWING what can happen, she lacked the common sense to read the contract she kept fussing about and then out of frustration (I'm guessing) threatens abortion? .... what happened to the strong, independent, intelligent female?
Also, Liana is Curvy... so Curvy in fact that it felt like the fact that she was bbw was being shoved down my throat (it's mentioned every 3-10 pages). Ill try to pick it up again at a later date, but right now sadly it's a dnf.
I just love anything Fae. And this book doesn't disappoint. Idk why but it's so much fun to read about how much attitude the fae have. If only we could venture to the land of the Fae. But at least we have lovely books like this to take us there, if only for a moment. I also was delighted to find that this book is longer than most books now a days.
The love story of Liana and Eero. In a world where the government force women to sign contracts to have baby by fae, Liana dose not want to be at a party given to chose the lord fae's consort. She is chosen and she run during a attack on the party by the Old Bloods. Will she escape or will she find love? Great story. Even though it say book 1 there is not other books.
The Fae are arrogant, racist, and too convinced of their superior genes. Now the government hands over DNA specific women for breeding. Advantage to the Fae even though the women are the key to their survival. The Fae Lord is dreamy as soon as you get past his arrogance.
I was surprised that fae world will be so interesting than shifter or vampire would, but Emma Alysin surprised me again. I love her alien world, but this one is also something creative. I love the bossy and alfa Fae Lord and independent woman he chooses for his mate, or mother of his children. Their relationship has so much spark and twists. At beginning I didn't like how the contract was making their relationship cold, with elements of slavery. I've thought he would brake her and hate him for it. But Liana surprised me again. She has so much power and love. And I really don't like purebloods in any shape. They are fanatic who cause so much pain in real and fantasy world. This story is adventure from beginning till end.
I want to start by saying I did like it, but I have noticed a few problems throughout the book and a few errors. Eero led a lot to be desired to be honest made it difficult to like his character. He seemed to look down on her and humans alike. He didnt seem to realize or care about how much she was giving up of her life and dreams to be his concubine. He came off as callous and kinda mean. He didnt SEEM to start to even care about her feelings or her until about half to 3/4 of the book. He lied and/or omitted the truth a lot to her. He hurt her once or twice with his callous words and he never seemed to apologize or realize when he made a mistake with Liana. He wouldnt communicate and I think had he done that she would have been way more understanding and accommodating to his requests. Liana...although I could sympathize with her character there were times she was a bit whiny and woe is me with her situation. I mean I realize it was difficult for her but she knew what this was even before he chose her. So, I am not sure why she was surprised at some things and why the heck she never read the contract she signed. He even told her to read it like 3 different times during the book. She never did and we never really knew what was in it so thats a plot hole right there. The end wasn't necessarily a cliffhanger but it didnt seem finished. It ended quite abruptly. Assar...I liked him but I was baffled when Liana slapped him for lying to her but then realized she was wrong and apologized and felt terrible. Then he asked for a kiss to make up for it. Uh what? She's with Eeros' so I wasnt sure his motive. Was he just curious about her or humans or did he like her? It was not necessarily a peck on the lips it was a kiss arousing for both :). There are a few things throughout the book that left plot holes in the story or we dont get the full picture which confused me sometimes. Eeros and his people seem to be on the cold side emotion wise. I didnt hate the book but there are definite things I didnt like about it and developmental issues in the story. I liked the book and I feel I would like to read the next to see what that is like.
When I first read the sinopse of this book I was excited to read it. But while I wouldn't say it disapointed me, I didn't love it either There were mainly three things that bothered me.
First: The book is not exactly a cliche but I've read quite a few books with very similar plots. So even at the beginning of the book I already had a very clear idea of the ending.
Second is the uneven power of the couple. The fae Lord literally owns her, she ishis to do as he pleases and she have no choice whatsoever. And while it might be fun in some ways, it gets boring reading her have basically the same argument and he winning every bloody time. I don't know if it is because I am a feminist at heart but I was hopping that at some pointhe would be the one to give. There was even a time that I thought she was going to get throught to him, but she just retreats and begins all over again and at the end I was actually pissed when he says he loves her, I mean what kind of love is this? She is the only one to change during the whole book. He doesn't even tries to understand her.
And at last the third issue I had was that I expected to have more power. She doesn't even saves herself, she just distracts her attacker. Since have no power in the fae world, I thought that she would be powerfull enough to compensate her helpelesness. I was wrong. It infuriates me that the fae didnt even speak to her, just about her. All in all, it's a good book, it just isn't a great one
The Fae have made an agreement with humans to provide resources in return for human women agreeing to carry their children if selected as an appropriate partner. The selected women get a lot of money. Not all the Fae like humans getting into the gene pool and some have gotten very violent about it.
Liana is a preschool teacher and going to school and has no interest in the program. She doesn't think she will be selected as she is not a thin. little blonde. When she is selected, she wants to find a way out. He is not willing to let her go.
I really enjoyed the story. This agreement between the Fae and humans is an interesting idea and there are many other story ideas for the series. While some women crave the money and attention, others prefer their simpler life. It is interesting to see the dynamic between this couple. He is so sure they belong together and the other wants her freedom. I really liked the other Fae characters that serve on his team, especially his cousin.
Given to me for an honest review. Wasn't sure that I would like this book. I'm not really into fairies and such. This is one of my “6” star books and can't wait for the next one. Ms Alisyn put the old thing of two groups needing each other and most people not liking it. In this case, the Fae need human women to keep the Fae from dying out. The humans get help fixing Earth after a major war, such as fixing the soil so it can be planted. The Fae use DNA matching to choose the best match for producing a baby. Liana has her life planned and doesn't care that she would be set for life after having a baby. Only problem with this group of women is the “winner” has already been chosen by Eero. He joins her at her table and she thinks he is a waiter. To say she is unhappy when she finds out that she is picked is putting it mildly. This isn't just a love story. Ms Alisyn throws in warring factions of Fae and and something else I was not expecting. Won't tell you what it is because it's a biggy.
I loved the storyline to this, Fae Lords pick a concubine from genetically compatible women to produce children with as their race is slowly dying out. In return for this 'gift' of an heir the woman live a life of luxury, making it an enticing prospect for a lot of women but not for Liana. When Liana is summoned to the gathering she has no interest in being there, besides, everyone knows the Fae prefer Tall, slim blondes, the complete opposite of What she is. When Lord Eero set his sights on the curvy and feisty Liana he knows she will be a challenge and that makes her all the more interesting but then the 'old blood', those opposed to diluting their gene pool with humans, attack his gathering and target Liana. Not everyone believes Eero has picked wisely but as this fast paced story progresses Liana proves she cowers to no one and will fight to protect those she cares for, the Fae that believe she is nothing but a weak insignificant human are definitely in for a shock ! This book will not disappoint.
I didn’t get to read the original stories that started this but Fae Spark was quite a whirlwind story. It’s the story of a woman who has her own plans in life but gets sidelined because she’s scouted out by a Fae Lord to become his concubine. The Fae are a race of beings that have more magic, knowledge, and power than humans but they have a problem of their own. They are having procreation issues. In an effort to repair the damage that humans have done to their farmlands, the Fae strike a deal with them—they’ll fix the issues of the land in exchange for women who are compatible breeding matches to the Fae. Then there’s also the problem of Old Fae who are wholeheartedly against the cross breeding, a jealous, wayward sister, and a pushy Fae mate. It’s a bit dystopian for my tastes but, like everything I’ve encountered by Emma Alisyn so far, I couldn’t stop reading it til the end! I am looking forward to its follow-up.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I loved that Liana was not at all happy to give up her education and jobs to become the consort of a fae. In fact, she is pi**ed off. It does help that Eero is Hot, but not hot enough to make Liana forget all the hard work she put into her life to this point. Unfortunately, the human-fae mating does not meet with the approval of all the fae either. The fact that Liana is being forced into the mating does not seem to faze Earl's enemies. To make the situation even more dangerous, Liana apparently has some power of her own, and she has no idea how to control it. Throw in some family drama and some great sex and you have the makings of a great story, and plenty of secondary characters to supply sequels! Hopefully these will also give us some catch up details about Eero and Liana. Hint, hint.
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Liana Sandoval wants nothing to do with the Fae. Unfortunately, she is required by law to present herself to be, possibly, chosen by one of the Fae to be the mother of his child. Liana can't believe it when she is actually chosen by the Fae Lord Eero and tries to escape. There is a faction of the Fae that is against the use of human woman as mothers to their dying race, so Liana and Eero will have to fight to survive and protect their unborn child. Wow, this book has fascinating twists and plenty of surprises, it is an exciting and sizzling hot read. Fantastic!
In a time were the human government made a deal with the fae to help fix the world they could have any human women who is genetically compatible to them Liana got her first letter from the government with a time place to show up and meet the guy they might give her too but with so many other women attending she thought she had a good chance not to be picked. Surprise! Seems not all the fae are happy with there kind mixing with humans so not long after being picked liana is running from eveyone. Wow i loved it. The characters are wonderful and fun. This book was fantastic. I hope the author has more planed like a series! I can't wait for the next book.
This is the first book in the Mates of the Fae series, it was very good.Liana is a preschool teacher and has no interest in the program of Fae getting Human women to bear their children and she believes she will not be chosen she is a curvy dark haired woman and there is lots of Blonde leggy ladies. What a surprise when Lord Eero choses her to be his consort ,but all is not safe. The Old Blood don't care what he wants, they threaten to destroy everything he holds dear in a quest to purify Fae blood and regain Fae power. Will he be able to keep Liana safe? I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
Good story for a fairy tale remix premise, interesting world, intriguing characters. Shitty editing. Run on sentences, missing words, poor punctuation choices (a hyphen is NOT a replacement for a dash, especially not a SINGLE hyphen), wrong words (him instead of his, one instead of on, the instead of they, etc.), and on and on. At a glance, I'd guess an average of a mistake roughly every 2-3 paragraphs. If you can ignore all that and concentrate on the story, go for it!
This is a standalone KU library read and a series opener with an HEA. I've read several other books by this author, books I've enjoyed more. This one never captured my full attention or interest. I didn't find the characters likable, the relationship between the H and h didn't gel till the end, and the h took stubbornness to the point of stupidity. While I did finish the book, I can't say I liked it. I would have liked more actual communication. It all seemed more Jr High than adult. The storyline was interesting enough to give it three stars, however.
so what happens when you go to a party and your life is forever changed . and what happens when others mean to harm you due to the fact your not of thir kind to also find out that your sister is missing and yet someone betrays you as well as others . find this and much more out when you buy , read and then review .
I gave this book 5 stars because it was great. Liana and Eero's story was cute. I enjoyed everything about the story. Can't wait to see what will happen next! Great job Emma!!
I really did like the book, but it felt like the end left things hanging. It did have a HEA but there were situations let unresolved. It could have been great. I love where the story line went and the unique characters.
An interesting story for fans of Fae power, a hard working woman stands up for herself but also feels the power when forced to be the concubine/breeding consort of a Fae Lord.
This is the first book I have read from this author and I am rather pleased. I love how the book had several different emotions behind it and pulled me into it.
This is a different twist on Fae and Human relations and agreements. I wasn't sure how well I would like the book but once I started reading it I had trouble putting it down. Well worth the read.
