“Our great aim should be to be deaf to self, to listen quietly to God, to renounce every bit of pride and devote ourselves to living” p. 14
“God has reduced you to a state of weakness … oh, how painful, but how beneficial these times of weakness!” p. 17
“You do not need to be cured, you need to be slain…. Uncover everything in simplicity and holiness and then allow yourself to die.” p. 19
This short read was encouraging in a season of weakness but also convicting to act on the call to die to self and give ourselves fully to God, in which can only be done in God’s strength, not mine. Thankful for Fénelon’s faith & wisdom found in these short letters.
Not sure how you rate or review this book. It is one that needs to be read over and over and over. In fact in fairness this book reads you. It is like a mirror that reflects all of the issues that the Holy Spirit wants to change in you. This book needs to be read slowly.
If you put into practice everything in this little book there would literally be no other books you’d ever need to read on what it means to be a Christian. All of the rest would be repetitive to this.
I found this book to be extremely enlightening! Although he is direct, the author’s ability to relay harsh realities was conveyed with such a gentleness that I don’t know how he managed to do that! It must’ve been the Holy Spirit! Great read!
