DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans: No More Gangs in Government

Rate this book
From New York Times Bestselling Author and former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura comes a scathing indictment of our two-party system. He attacks Democrats. He attacks Republications. He speaks truth to power!

Let Jesse Ventura explain the untold truth about how corporations have bought the American electoral and legislative process through the power of lobbyists, campaign contributions, and political action committees.

Using historical details, such as the development of the two-party system and the advent of third-party candidates throughout U.S. history, DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans exposes how the two major parties have allowed corporations, businesses, and politically-motivated wealthy individuals to manipulate elections, bribe elected officials, and silence the average American voter.

Exposing the ineptitude and gang-like mentalities of both parties, Ventura advocates the replacement of the two-party system with a no-party system based on the ideals of our Founding Fathers. As election time rolls around, this is most certainly the book that should be looked at for reforming our electoral system.

Jesse Ventura is an American politician, actor, author, veteran, and former professional wrestler who served as the 38th Governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003.

Ventura served as a U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Team member during the Vietnam War. He had a long tenure in the World Wrestling Federation, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004.

In 1951, James George Janos, later known as Jesse "The Body" Ventura, was born in Minneapolis to George and Bernice Janos. Janos joined the U.S. Navy and spent time in the Vietnam War. He was briefly a bodyguard for the Rolling Stones. Janos developed a rigorous workout routine, and his newly muscular physique attracted the attention of famous Midwest wrestling promoter Bob Geigel. He began wrestling professionally in the mid-1970s and changed his name to the one that made him famous, Jesse "The Body" Ventura. He continued wrestling in the national spotlight until 1984, when emergency hospitalization due to blood clots in his lungs made him miss a title match against Hulk Hogan, and ended his professional wrestling career. He spent the next five years as a wrestling commentator for various television and radio programs. He acted in a handful of films, including several Arnold Schwarzenegger movies: "Predator" (1987), "The Running Man" (1987) and "Batman & Robin" (1997). In 1990, Ventura ran against and defeated the 18-year incumbent mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minn., serving until 1995. He campaigned for governor as a third-party candidate, and was one of the pioneering politicians who reached out to new voters via the Internet. He was elected as Minnesota governor in 1998, and proved to be a progressive politician, strongly backing gay rights, abortion rights, funding higher education, third-party politics, mass transit, property tax reform and opening trade relations with Cuba. Ventura Decided not to run for reelection because he wanted his family to regain their privacy.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation awarded the former governor the 1999 "Emperor Has No Clothes Award" for his "plain speaking" on religion and, as governor, for rejecting proposals to entangle state and church, including refusing to proclaim for Minnesota a "Day of Prayer." As governor, Ventura vetoed a bill that would have required students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools. Ventura, on refusing to sign a National Day of Prayer in 1999, said: "I believe in the separation of church and state. We all have our own religious beliefs. There are people out there who are atheists, who don't believe at all. They are all citizens of Minnesota and I have to respect that" (Minnesota Independent, "Despite court decision, National Day of Prayer will endure in Minnesota," by Andy Birkey, April 20, 2010). In his 2009 book Don't Start the Revolution Without Me! (co-authored with Dick Russell), Ventura writes: "I was the only governor of all fifty who would not declare a National Day of Prayer. I took a lot of heat for that, and my response was very simple: Why do people need the government to tell them to pray? Pray all you want! Pray fifty times a day if you desire, it's not my business! . . . If I declare National Day of Prayer, then I've got to declare National No-Prayer Day for the atheists. They are American citizens too" (p. 58). "For me, the lines between church and state seem to become more blurred by the day. The First Amendment protects freedom of speech, thought — and religion. Nowhere is it mandated that we're the Christian States of America. . . . That's made us, I think, a stronger and more democratic nation. . . . It's abundantly clear that our Founding Fathers wanted to prevent our government from establishing a 'national church'" (p. 59).

Say what you will about Jesse "The Body" Ventura -- and many people will, describing the former Minnesota Guv as a "kook" -- but he has a way of describing a cluttered, corrupt system in a simplistic, libertarian POV. It's always been a voice I've found refreshing, even when he was railing against the machine back in his WWF days. While this book doesn't really offer many surprises (yes, Jesse dislikes the two-party system, nothing new here) it does provide an interesting and well-researched (he credits a community college political scientist for assistance) look into the two-party system and the dwindling faith many people have in our current political make-up. As a member of the media, I can understand Ventura's frustrations, though I was somewhat disappointed that he doesn't have a true grasp on the underlying problem attacking today's big media (not the journalists, per se, but the corporate ownership interests eroding our information channels). I liked how he took on the FCC and would also have liked to have read more about his thoughts on that impotent department. The terms "Democrips" and "Rebloodlicans" is creative and fun and he utilizes them throughout the book. Linking the big donors with the parties adds context and his defense of Ron Paul makes sense. A fun, quick read if you like Jesse or thought he was interesting at times. If you can't stand him or find him to be a complete goof, then move along.

DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans: No More Gangs in Government by Jesse Ventura is a non fiction political examination of the corruption of the two party system in American politics. Jesse Ventura is the former governor of Minnesota, and prior to that the WWE wrestler known as Jesse “The Body” Ventura, actor from The Predator, and self proclaimed Navy SEAL. (He served before the SEALs actually existed as a unit, but he was a Frogman, which is the unit that evolved into SEALs.) Ventura served as Governor as a third party candidate, the Reform Party, and has since been a staunch proponent of the third party spoiler. In DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans, however, Ventura moves away from his support of the third party and makes his argument for disbanding all parties entirely. He draws parallels between the two parties and the two major street gangs in America, the Bloods and the Crips. Their colors (red and blue respectively), tactics, and corruption match up in an uncanny sameness.
I was once a big fan of Jesse Ventura. I followed a period of his political career and read a previous book entitled Don’t Start the Revolution Without Me!. Unfortunately, over the years he seems to have come a bit unhinged. Whereas early in his career Ventura was a controversial straight shooter with serious libertarian policies, later on he became a blustery conspiracy theorist forever whining about his imagined slights. DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans is no different. In the opening Ventura outlines his ideas that the two party system is corrupt and needs to be not replaced but dismantled. However, rather than spend the next 250 pages outlining how he proposes that get done, Ventura spend 225 pages whining about government corruption and how it never supported him. Finally in the last chapter, Ventura finally gets into his ideas for reform, yet because he wasted so much of his time crying about what has been a human truth since ancient Greece, there is no time to flesh out his reform plans and can only give them brief synopsis.
Truth be told, I liked the ideas. I’m not a big fan of the Coke or Pepsi options we have in American politics and would love to free politicians to be and act the way they want, and more importantly the way their constituents want. I would love to see a movement away from the two party system. I like a lot of Ventura’s reform ideas. He proposed the idea of removing the “D” or “R” from the actual ballot, thus forcing voters to, at minimum look up who the candidate is and who might be endorsing him/her. In this case candidates could, of course, be endorsed by any party organization, similar to how candidates are endorsed by labor unions and newspapers now. I have long been a fan of open primaries which is the system of having a large number of candidates, regardless of party, run for in the spring in an election by all voters. Only the top 3-5 move on to November, even if the they are all from the same party. Ventura also pitches the policy of ranked voting, a policy I am a big fan of. Voters would pick their top three choices in order. If, after tallying only the 1’s, no candidate receives a majority, then the last place candidate is dropped and the votes recounted. If your number 1 choice isn’t there anymore then your number 2 is counted. This is continued until a majority is reached. I believe, and as does Jesse Ventura that these measures would give candidates the ability to move off of the usual “party line” and allow them more political freedom. Additionally voters would be free to vote for candidates the actually believe in and are inspired by and not just the guy from “their team” or the most “electable”.
Unfortunately, as much as I enjoyed the final chapter, and found a good bit of common ground with Mr. “The Body”, I feel obliged to walk away giving DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans only Two Stars. There was a fair amount gleaned from this book, and I very nearly gave it a third star. I left interested in finding more information on private prisons, those seem like the most corrupt institutions in existence and they’re not even being hidden. I also found it interesting, especially considering the current state of unrest, the idea that America is the world’s police, and how expensive that has proven. The thought came to me, that if the military has to act like the police, then its truly no wonder that the police are outfitted like the military. There were even two interesting quotes pulled from the book that were worth remembering:

“The CEO of Wal-Mart earns $19,000 per hour. At the same time, his
million or so employees have to work holidays for between $8 and $10. This is
aided and abetted by the fact that Wal-Mart imports more than $20 billion a year
in products from sweatshops in China.”

“The Church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the
state, but rather the conscience of the state. It must be the guide and the critic of
the state, and never its tool.” - Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Yet, at the end of the day, Ventura’s incessant whining was too much for me. He conspiracy theorist attitude leaves him like a ranting lunatic rather than an wise and informed political philosopher. I felt like I was being lectured at rather than lectured to.
The library has finally re-opened albeit on a limited bias. So my options have been widely improved. I’m not sure where to go from here but I have been feeling the sports void lately and may attack something in that realm.

I definitely enjoyed this book. Although I found it to ramble slightly in the middle, the majority of information presented was very good. No matter what party you align yourself with, you should be able to realize that our current system is nothing more than the rich helping the rich. Over and over and over again we allow officials with clear conflict of interests to pass bills and laws for us. One thing this book does well is show that our government is a total racket, no matter how you look at it.

Mr. Ventura is right on the mark. Until we close the gap on the "very rich" and the middle class, there is never going to be an equality of wealth among us. We need to get people in the White House like there used to be back in the day who actually cared about the people and not about how much more money they could make or tax breaks. Good read!

Ventura makes some solid arguments. This is a wonderful book for those who have become disillusioned with our current political system. The only problem I have with it is Ventura's strong push for Ron Paul. It would have been stronger without his endorsement of a candidate.

I liked the book's theme of a no-party system; however, even though I'm interested in finance, I think the average person will quickly tire of pages of statistics and dollars and put the book down.

I have read a book by Jesse Ventura once before which eventually led me to this one. It took me awhile to get into as there was a lot of dry, numbers talk that sort of numbed me out. But somewhere along the line things got interesting, albeit a little discouraging.
I liked to think that Obama was a great President and in the grand scheme of things he seemed to be but the more I delved into this book during the build up to Obama's 2nd term, I was reading things that I didn't like hearing about Obama and how deep he was into the election 'game' as everyone else was. This saddened me.
What angers me is the way the Government people don't give a shit about regular American people or people in any part of the world. Everything is all for profits and more and more and more of anything that will benefit anyone in the higher echelons.
I am pissed that so many of these rich assholes just get richer and don't give a shit about the world. It angers me that money can turn off people's morals and goodness for the sole benefit of becoming richer and turning blind eyes to the devastation their decisions make.
Don't get me started on the lack of separation of Church and State.
So if you would like to learn more about these types of things and the theory of the Bloods and Crips in Government read this. You will possibly be bored by a lot but also learn a lot as well. Say what you want about Jesse but I find him interesting and many of the topics he has written about in both books make sense to me

Ventura spotlights some important issues in this book. Would that he argued them in a way that was a little/lot less... juvenile. So first off, the name calling. It's all over this book, and I don't like it. I don't like it when our president does it, and I don't like it when anyone else does it either. Secondly, he lapses into conspiracy theory a few different times, another thing I'm not a fan of. He also takes cheap shots. If you want to be a humorist (which I have to assume Ventura is partially trying to do), that's fine, but certain things are below the belt. Most of what Ventura says falls into the realm of fair (if sometimes petty and juvenile) game, but a few times he wandered well outside of that. Also, for someone who's so intent on spotlighting the research he's conducted, his citations can be pretty weak. A bunch of them come from not-terribly-reputable sources, but even more surprising to me was how often he left quotes uncited. If you are going to show your work and provide citations, the one thing you should always, always provide citations for without exception is quotes.

Boyfriend showed me the cover of this book as he was working in the library. I thought it was hilarious so I told him to check it out for me.

The audiobook for this book is wild, like an educated crackhead talking to you about his crazy opinions about politics and government. Like you find yourself nodding in agreement to his words but sometimes you come to reality and realize you're still listening to a crackhead. The narrator's voice slips in and out of a southern drawl and it drove me up the walls listening to him say 'hunderd' instead of 'hundred'.

Jesse makes some good points, but he sucks Ron Paul's dick so much towards the end of the book that it made me roll my eyes. It's an okay book, that's about it.

I read an Advance Copy and Believe Me— You want this book.

Don’t Look Now but a Couple of GANGS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE GOVERNMENT!

One is not enough! Jesse Ventura now takes on BOTH political parties!

Get ready for a No-Holds-Barred attack on the political monopoly of two-party politics in America and the fact that they have a stranglehold on our political system, not to mention their very intentional EXCLUSION of other parties and Independents. It’s now a big game being controlled by the FATCATS, Folks-- and YOU CAN’T PLAY unless they let you in.

The two political parties behave exactly like GANGS who have taken over a neighborhood. In fact, the book’s title is a reference to precisely that; the Bloods and the Crips who, also fought each other for decades, wreaking havoc on their “turf.” Republicans and Democrats have done the EXACT SAME THING. Only, in this case, they have TAKEN OVER OUR COUNTRY….

I had the great pleasure of reading an advance copy of this book and let me tell you— it pulls NO punches.

The book details and documents how our electoral and legislative process has been taken over through a corrupt process of lobbyists and campaign contributing by corporations and the wealthy. Let’s call it what it is, just like Jesse does— BRIBERY.

But the book also details the way OUT of this mess— a NO-party system replacing the Two-party system, REWARDING INTEGRITY instead of ineptitude and cronyism. THAT WAS THE WISH OF THE FOUNDERS of this country and this book shows us how to get it!

You know that nice feeling you get, when you finally hear what you know is the truth, spoken loudly and clearly. You get a ton of that with this book. The quotes in the book are fantastic. Here are just a few to get you started:

“Wall Street gets bailed out, while average homeowners who got bilked by the banks go broke.”

“Not one Street-wise exec gets prosecuted for mega fraud, but if you get caught selling an ounce of marijuana, hasta la vista, baby.”

“Big money has corrupted the government— including the thievery of our election process.”

“I love Wall Street, I just don’t like the crooks and conspirators who run it.”

“89 percent of Americans say they ‘distrust government to do the right thing.’” Well, now it’s time that we, THE MAJORITY, do something about it.

Ventura & Russell raise some very cogent points in this book and ask some great questions that we should all pay attention to.

People losing their jobs and homes are just collateral damage to these people. Just like civilians who get caught in the crossfire are just collateral damage to the street gangs.

Their SYSTEM of TWO-PARTY CONTROL ensures that THE RICH GET RICHER and THE POOR STAY POOR. That’s no coincidence. That’s the way that it’s designed! They control it and we’re not invited to the party.

Why don’t we just abolish the whole two-party system? It doesn’t work unless you’re a Wall Street Fatcat or a Big Corporate Interest.

So why not “open up the game” for everybody?
“Hey, if competition is good for the economy, why isn’t the same true for politics?”

With a presidential election coming up, there could not be a more important book or more appropriate time. It’s high time we reform our electoral process and this book leads the way. Enjoy!

While reading DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans, I was amazed at the facts that were presented in the book. Some people may not agree with the message of the book. But I found it very informative. There are a lot of people that agree that money and corporations need to be removed from politics. Believe it or not, our government keeps their surreptitious agendas away from the American people. We are luck to catch wind of just a fraction of it before the mass media, which is controlled by the “Big Six,” squashes the story. The “Big Six” control 90% of our news media. These companies include Walt Disney, News Corp, Time Warner, Viacom, CBS, and Clear Channel Communications. It is ludicrous to think that we truly have a free press. The facts that Mr. Venture showed about how these companies fund both DemoCrips and ReBLOODlicans ensures that they are in a win-win situation.

I started to think to myself how could people be so trusting of a government that constantly has scandals. Do our votes really count? President George W. Bush signed legislation that all voting machines have to be upgraded. Who are the ones that are going to regulate these new electronic voting machines? How do we know that the software cannot be hacked? These are some of the questions that popped into my head while reading Chapter 12 POLL-CATS: THE STEALING OF DEMOCRACY. Mr. Ventura would like to abolish the Electoral College system, remove party identifiers from candidates, and go to a no party system. I agree that the Electoral College system is outdated. Why is the President of the United States the only office not elected by popular vote? People have been so brain washed that they vote by party lines, and not by what they think is right.

I like how Mr. Ventura pointed out all the money being thrown at our politicians. Politicians are no longer working for the people; they are working for the corporations. In 1907, The Tillman Act was passed and included a statement, “It shall be unlawful for any national bank, or any corporation organized by authority of any laws of congress to make a money contribution in connection with any election to any political office.” That has been long gone for a while now. Corporations are able to funnel money through Super PACs. I still find it hard to believe that the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are people in the “People’s United” decision. I agree with the book that change needs to happen. If only just one small change, we should take the money and corporations out of politics.

Ventura is a strange seed. He has historically claimed his Libertarian beliefs yet this book has many inconsistencies when compared to the "Libertarian" platform. Ventura implicitly supports the "rich" to pay 90% in taxes. Although I do not believe that corporations or their executives should not pay $0.00, I disagree that someone, because they have succeeded on their own merits or have created exceptional products should be penalized by taking 90% of their earnings. With that said, I am opposed to crony-capitalism and companies and "CEOs" getting rich by stealing from the public.

Additionally, Ventura eludes to the support of Universal Health Care, Climate Change, and other "DemoCRIPS" ideology. He is extremely hard on the "ReBLOODlicans" yet somewhat gives the "DemoCRIPTS" a pass. Here are just a few of his inconsistencies:

1. Koch Brothers sent out a letter/memo telling their employees who to vote for. Ventura neglects to say that the almost 100% "democript" Unions do the same thing. I do not necessaarily agree with the practice but he had the opportunity to do some equal opportunity bashing.

2. He call Paul Krugman a "level headed" economist. Nuff Said.

3. Tea party are BAD while OWS are GOOD. He rants on and on about how the Koch brothers funded the Tea Party making it "AstroTurf" instead of a grass roots movement. However he neglects to let you know that the OWS movement was also being funded by the democript's "shot caller" (To use his gangster analogy) George Soro's

I agree with a lot of what he said. He seems to be a far left leaning Libertarian and supports massive regulation over free market, however he seems level-headed enough (save the conspiracy stuff) and has enough common-ground to be able to work with to get true change. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am a hard core, even "radical" Ron Paul supporter. The presence of the chapter on Paul was very appealing to me.

The book is good and points out both sides', albeit lopsided, ignorance and involvement in this spiralling downward society where soon, if unchecked, will become a dystopia.

OK, so technically I did not finish the book. I had about 35 pages left and it was due back to the library and to be really honest I was never going to read the chapter entitled "Ron Paul is the Second Coming"... that's not what that chapter was actually titled?! Please forgive, I returned the book to the library yesterday.

Overall the content was nothing new (to me) but I understand much of his content may be new to some readers. I agree with Mr. Ventura that our political system is broken and rigged against the "common voter." He does venture at times into the Conspiracy Theory Zone, but much of the worst of what he identifies is cited in his notes section at the end of each chapter. His love for Ron Paul is difficult to swallow for a non-Libertarian -- Ron Paul is not the *only* person in all of Congress to stand up against the war in Iraq and Patriot Act. I'm from Ohio so I know Representative Dennis Kucinich also has not only voted against those bills but spoken up against those bills many times -- at least while he is still in office.
Overall, my stars are for content and not technical and literary value.

Technically, the book was so bad I nearly gave up less than 100 pages in. The footnotes, notes at the end of each chapter, are easily accesible from websites listed. However, these footnote citations are NOT primary resources and at times are only one step above sourcing from wikipedia. The editing was very distracting.
This book would be good for non-readers and folks who only remember Jesse Ventura as a wrestler. Otherwise skip it and find a better/more academic book.

I tend to steer clear of books on politics because regardless of the side being portrayed I usually walk away ready to pull my hair out in a fit of rage. I ended up picking up DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans: No More Gangs in Government because it looked like it was blatantly calling out the current system as a whole.

I think Jesse "The Body" was on point with most of what he said in calling for a massive overhaul to the current system. I also believe the imagery he used in the book's title that flowed through out the book was the most accurate description of the political system in the United States I have ever read.

You may or may not like the Governor and his style, but I think if you are willing to look at this book with no preconceived notions it might surprise you. I don't think it really covers how to fix the system, but it might inspire some aspiring politicians to start think for themselves and start to challenge the status quo.

I know many of you are thinking - why would anyone read Jesse Ventura? I was very pleasantly surprised. I don't agree with a lot of his politics but this book is chocked full of facts, one after another, that don't pick sides. I would strongly suggest that if you want to learn more about what is wrong with our current two party system, this is a book to put on your list. Couple this with Thomas Friedman's latest book and his call for a third party, it is too bad we can get more straight thinking in this country. I listened to this book and my only disappointment was that Ventura did not do the reading. His distinctive voice would have made it even better. There is a big plug for Ron Paul at the end (you may want to skip that) but the rest of the book would get anyone to some serious thinking.

Great book for those, like me, who wish to dig into the political system and its obvious failure to do its job.

I do have one point to make, however. The "no party" system that the author suggests is good, and makes a lot of sense. But I believe that taking anyone who is asking for the votes needed to be elected to any office should have to be subject to a psychological test that would be developed by the profilers of the FBI. The testing, itself, would be overseen by these same profilers. That way, we would be better assured that we aren't voting a batch of sociopaths who have nothing but their own wants involved into positions where they decide what our laws should be.

A lie detector test wouldn't be too bad for would-be office holders, either.

The book is filled with enough information to make anyone angry. Our government is broken. It has been bought and paid for by the biggest businesses and corporations in America. It's one big incestuous mess. Those charged with regulating are or have worked for the businesses they are regulate. Ventura opts for doing away with the two party system. not likely to happen. Everyone should read this. Trust no one. Question everything. We are in big trouble, just a matter of when. Wake up America. Not an enjoyable read. I could only read short sections because it made me angry. Clever title, too

In Jesse Ventura's book "DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans: No More Gangs in Government" he describes his views on the current political system and the corruption in all aspects of the "american system". He constantly hammers both political parties, to eliminate bias because he is an independent, and constantly states facts (they are cited, so you can fact check him). One of the things i found most interesting about this book was Jesse Ventura's type of thinking. He is an extremist conspiracist, however that in its self makes the book interesting. Your constantly picking out what information is simply rhetoric, and what information is legitimate.

I recommend this book! Jesse Ventura has done it again with his page-turning writing style that reveals the corruption of this government. I was satisfied at the ending because, knowing is half the battle. This book gives us the information we need to try to DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans. This was a very interesting book and needless to say, this should be required reading. This book really helped me understand the issues of corporatism and military contractors. In a trial against the two parties, this is all the evidence we need.

A very sobering look at the current disturbing political climate in the United States. I think this paints a pretty good portrait of the disgust the average American has for the job the government is doing. The only problem I have with this book is it's very lean on solutions. We need solutions, not more "misery loves company" screeds. The last chapter does hint at some salvation, perhaps in a run from Ventura and Ron Paul in 2016 and the hope of enacting real change, not what was promised in 2008. Recommended reading for those who enjoy political non-fiction.

This is the first book I've read by Jesse Ventura, and I must say, I'm impressed by the depth of his knowledge of the issues he discusses. With this book, he shows how and why the system is rigged to keep things going the way they do. It's disheartening, in a way, to really see all this corruption in our politics. But the truth is the truth, and "the truth will set you free". By shining a light on this corruption, hopefully it'll dry up in the sunshine and disappear. Anyway, I particularly liked the chapter on the history of third parties in America.

Sounds like hyperbole at first, but actually seems to be accurate analysis based on the related reading that I've done and some related (though much lower level) first hand experience. This is written a bit bombastically, but it's designed to get people fired up and taking action. How would you do that without being a bit over the top? Unfortunately, I don't think that the system is really changeable, but I do agree that Ventura seems to have focused in on one of the bigger US systemic problems.

I saw this book by accident while at Barnes & Noble, and I decided to have a look at it because I like Jesse Ventura's style. I'd bet I was there for 20+ minutes reading through the book before I ripped myself away from it long enough to take it to the cashier. I am definitely looking forward to finishing it. :-)

This was not a bad book. I just got tired of the soap-box mentality of Jesse Ventura's writings. At times I felt inspired. Other times I felt Mr. Ventura had taken too many pile-drives to the head. I came away with a new perspective. I liked the historical connections made in this book and I feel we should at least adopt some new ideas in regards to the two party system.

I'll agree with most of other reviewers. You won't learn the TRUTH from the 'mainstream' media. Jesse and Jim Marrs and Alex Jones are my new heroes. Read everything you can get your hands on. The controlled Media would rather have you watching Reality TV, so read all you can from Jesse; Jim and Daniel Estulin etc. 5 Stars on all counts! - R.L.

Easy reading, well researched, not too heavy on the conspiracy stuff, and a great case for third parties, for rejecting the binary system we're accustomed to. That said, the last chapters are a long endorsement of Ron Paul, so there's that tinge of naive libertarianism. (Yes, I'm aware of how odd it is to call a former Navy SEAL 'naive').

I read this book a couple of months ago and I have to say that it's a very unique look into American politics, but only Jesse Ventura can do that. That being said, he does make some great points in this book which are very difficult to dispute about both the Democrats and the Republicans. I would personally recommend this book to anyone who has not read it.
