George Shannon is a popular storyteller and former children's librarian whose many notable picture books include Tomorrow's Alphabet, Lizard's Guest, and White Is for Blueberry. Tippy-Toe Chick, Go!, illustrated by Laura Dronzek, was named a Charlotte Zolotow Award Honor Book. George Shannon lives on Bainbridge Island, Washington.

Lizard returns home after playing with toad all day, and finds that his rock has been taken over by a snake. Try as he might to convince the snake that the rock is his home, snake says she's staying on the rock. It will take more than a wish song for lizard to get his home back.

Lizard's original problem solving skills are fun. This one is probably too much for my preschoolers to really appreciate, but it would be a fun read aloud for the elementary age crowd.

This book is about a lizard who needs to find a new home after his old one is destroyed. It's a great lesson in adaptation and survival.

When a snake takes over Lizard's beloved home, he makes Snake a wager that if he draws a certain rock from a bag containing two outcomes he will reclaim his home. Snake agrees and gathers the rocks and the sack. Lizard's friends warn him that Snake was planning to cheat, but Lizard devises a clever distraction to gain the upper hand.

Good read aloud trickster tale with music. Recommended for PreK-2.

When Lizard's rock is taken over by a mean snake, Lizard turns Snake's trickery back on her in order to regain his home.

This is a funny story that reads out loud well, and the kindergarteners definitely liked it.
