This book starts off with a secret on Lad's part. I really think holding this secret in is what causes most of his problems and drug use. Then you have Aly or Alyeska who people call Alaska to be mean to her. No wonder Aly gives people attitude. Aly has Japanese heritage. Aly struggles because her mom dies. Aly and Lad were enemies. Then Lad needed Aly and very reluctantly she helps him. Lad only admitted his problem to Aly. Lad gets used to Aly always being there for him so when Aly has a breakdown Lad doesn't know what to do. It's really heartbreaking the issues these two have. For me the worst part is despite the fact Lad loves Aly, he's willing to let Aly take the blame and let people think the worst of her. In return because Aly loves Lad, she let's him. Aly thinks she's worthless and Lad's trying to achieve his dreams so Aly just takes it and moves on heartbroken as she is. Make no mistake Lad destroyed her feelings but Aly still put him first. It cost Aly absolutely everything. I think Lad begins to wonder whose dream swimming really is anymore. It is a great book. Lad's grandma is very funny.

Effect is the complete duet set by author Laikyn Meng! It’s a sports multicultural enemies to lovers romance. Lad and Alyeska were strong willed, intense and captivating characters. It was well written with great character development and an intense and entertaining storyline. These two really went through it as a couple and were a captivating duo! Will they finally get their happily ever after, you have to read the duet to find out! I’m looking forward to reading the next one by Laikyn Meng.

UMMMM TBH I HAVE HAD A BAD START TO 2023 WITH BOOKS, BUT THIS, THIS TURNS MY NEW YEAR AROUND!!!! I loved the characters, everything about this book, I started reading this book with a very pessimistic view as every other book I've read so far were not it. BUT I WAS SHOCKED. The ending MUAHHH CHEFS KISS 👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳💋💋💋💋💋.

This is the complete duet about Aladden / Lad and Alyeska’s journey. This is a well written, captivating, enemies / lovers’ romance, with intrigue, angst, drama, tension, emotions, chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining and thrilling page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This is my first Laikyn Meng novel, and I wasn't disappointed. This is a complete duet. Deliciously dark and sinful. Great characters, and a well written storyline. Would recommend. Will read more from this author.

This is part of the in The Water We Make Waves Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Alyeska & Aladden.

A story so filled with emotional angst and drama that I couldn’t read it fast enough. I found a few things hard to read but the author did a wonderful job of making everything fit together beautifully. I enjoyed reading this book.
