A creative renaissance blooms in Brooklyn. At its heart is a thriving community of artisans producing a remarkable variety of handmade goods. In Brooklyn Makers , photographer Jennifer Causey captures the spirit of this homegrown movement by documenting thirty of the borough's most celebrated craftsmen. This eclectic mix of established and up-and-coming makers includes bakers, ceramic artists, clothing designers, florists, distillers, and more. With an eye for small details, Causey's charming photographs reveal each artisan at work in their own space. Her lively interviews reveal what inspires them, keeps them motivated, and their thoughts on the city where they live and work.
Jennifer Causey is a photographer living in Brooklyn, NY. She specializes in food, lifestyle, still life, and travel and is just as comfortable photographing in a studio setting as she is photographing on a farm or out in the woods.
She loves to travel for work and play. Her personal project photographing artists and makers in their spaces (resulting in two books) can be seen here.
Interesting book chronicling Brooklyn creatives. I'm glad the text for each maker is relatively brief but I would have loved more photographs and more detailed captions. The photos are moody, descriptive. I wonder what the demographics were, they seemed like most were younger and early in their careers. An established personality, or two, would have offered a different look, as well. I was interested in visiting a few of these places and was sad to discover that several have closed up shop!
I got this as part of a Humble Bundle. It was okay for what it was, but I would definitely not have paid money for it. Maybe if I lived in New York I would feel more enthusiastic about it. Still, the pictures were nice, and it was interesting to read about of the makers as someone who also enjoys crafts.
Wonderful stories about artisans and their wares. Fascinating and inspirational. All Made in America. Also, check out the companion book "Southern Makers".
