When we adopt this attitude it is natural to wish f or these events to be delayed as long as possible. But the Apocalypse, the last and most enigmatic book o f the Bible, tells us that the end of the world is merely a sig n of the swiftly approaching great and long-awaited victory of good over evil, of deliverance from the power of the devil and death, as it is And God shall wipe a way all tears from their eyes; and there s hall be no more death , neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more for the former things are passed away (Rev. 21:4). Joy at the advent of eternal and gladsome life with God must overcome fear of the birth pangs of the new universe.
