The ghost of a murdered child, a demon who doesn't know why he's on earth, and a man who can't forget his best friend even after twenty years.
When the Seed rose from his grave, he knew he was not human. He also knew that he would not have a moment's peace unless he found the murderer of the child whose bones he was wearing. But as a newly blossomed demon, he still had much to learn. And, of course, no idea how to solve a twenty-year-old murder. The hunger that was gnawing at him also needed to be satisfied, and then there was that perfect, delicious-smelling Patrick. The Seed knew his desire for this man was dangerous, but it was harder than it should be to stay away from Patrick.
This is the first book in the Hellflowers series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Demons, kinky sex, and revenge... This was good! My heart broke for these lil boys.
Cornelius is a plant demon called a corpseflower. His body forms from bones, and he lives off eating bad people. The bones he's made of are from a 9-year-old boy, Zeno. He was raped and killed 20 years earlier. Cornelius promises revenge so he can move on. He meets up with Patrick, Zeno's childhood best friend, to get some answers, and ooooouuuuu, he smells so good 🤭
Who killed Zeno? Will Cornelius get revenge? Will Patrick accept Cornelius is a demon?
I'm happy Zeno gets his own book. He deserves anything and everything good. (I'll be skipping it tho there's mf scenes)
"I will miss him, Zeno said. You think he will miss me too?" He’s missed you all his life.”
Amazing. I’ve never read a story quite like this before, and it was hard tearing myself away from it. I’m very excited that there will be more of these Corpseflowers to read about.
(There were some typos, but the story was that amazing that I’ll turn a blind eye to them)
What an absolutely wild book. Okay, so confession. Ordinarily, when confronted with a book that has as many typos as this one did, I'd have given up on it pretty early on. And I considered it. But I'm glad I didn't. The story itself was so intriguing that, despite noticing and being pulled out of the book with every typo and formatting issue, I still couldn't put it down. Monsters who stay monstrous are my favorite and this book certainly delivered.
This is a new to me author. The story is intriguing, and quickly drew me in. There're serious trigger warnings. About kidnapping, torture and murder of a child. I enjoyed readings about Zeno, and his interactions with Cornelius and Patrick. There are several editing errors, but nothing too bad to make me quit reading.
Every now and then, a book sticks with me for a while after reading it, coming back to me at the oddest moments. This was one of those. I've read a lot of paranormal books over the years, but Corpseflower was unique. J. Tomala's imagination is incredible; who comes up with demon seeds growing in the bones of a murdered child and turning into wildly attractive men? Tomala, that's who. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's looking for something a little bit different, dark, and spicy. With an astonishingly relatable demon of a main character.
Interesting take on demons (and by design Hell), a revenge plot and a lovely couple, that enjoys slightly kinky sexy times. Cornelius is part plant, part demon, part human soul and human behavior and conventions are sometimes ignored by him. Patrick has been burned before, but they work so well together. I look forward to the second book.
This book was unique in its kind, both in terms of plot and writing style. Different from what I'm used to, but very surprising. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it!
