The 5 Love Languages Series 5 books set (The 5 Love Languages, The 5 Love Languages for Men, The 5 Love Languages of Teenagers, 5 Love Languages Of Children, A Teen's Guide to the 5 Love Languages) By Gary Chapman Paperback
Gary Demonte Chapman is an American author and radio talk show host. Chapman is most noted for his The Five Love Languages series regarding human relationships.
Was a great read and gives some ideas on how you can transfer the 5 love languages to children, however, I found that because I read the original "5 love languages" it was pretty repetitive but has some small variations to adapt to children. It is a great read, but found I skimmed a lot of it because I had read it already.
“Our task as parents is to raise mature adults, capable of functioning and flourishing in the world.” - Gary Chapman
The Five Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 3.5
This book is an easy read and I found the examples at the end of each chapter very helpful. I chose this book for the United Way of Southwest Oklahoma Success By 6 book club because of the way Chapman emphasizes respecting your child and appropriate forms of discipline. The chapters on discipline and anger are a must read! While there are better books out there on expressing love to your children, if you love his other books or are looking for an easy read, I recommend adding it to your TBR.
Memorable quotes:
“Whatever love language your child understands best, he needs it expressed in one way—unconditionally. Unconditional love is a guiding light, illuminating the darkness and enabling us as parents to know where we are and what we need to do as we raise our child. Without this kind of love, parenting is bewildering and confusing.”
“When your child hears your loving expression of concern for other young people, he is far more likely to identify with you than when he hears you condemning people.”
Easy to read and follow, and it contains many good pointers. I’d recommend it as a resource for parents of kids of all ages, but I don’t feel that it’s quite as one-size-fits-all as the book portrays - as if figuring out your child’s love language and speaking it will solve all past and prevent future parenting issues. But as the book explains, I do agree that kids will be better able to be their best when they feel loved.
I liked how practical this felt and as cheesy as some of it was, the stories really helped me understand the concept for different ages and honestly made the book fun and more personal. I dont know if Im 100% behind the science behind the love languages, but I do think its an intentional way we can be more selfless in how we show love. Would def reccomend for upcoming parents.
Having read the 5 love languages for marriage, I knew the foundation of the languages. Applying these to my children was eye-opening to understand! So many things said in the book really made me think about how I am as a parent, and how I can fill my kids love tanks!
Every parent, grandparent, aunt, family friend should read this book and then read it again! The difference it makes in the children’s life is life changing! Literally!
