This book has balls! Littered with wisdom, it carries the soul of the Pacific Northwest.

These are the stories from a strong family and an honest man fearlessly making his way through the world. Gibson is up against the woods, the sea, and dishonest men of all sorts.

This book is a gem that would have slipped past me if it weren't for chance and boredom. Gibson is not a man to be underestimated!

A real manly book, but I liked it too. Originally published 1980, I bought it in 1981 for hubby who actually liked my choice of gift. Wonderful BC Canadiana, rough, tough, intelligent tales of life as it was in coastal BC in his days. Too long ago to remember all the details but certainly enough to recommend. I may just go read it again.

To me, as a European immigrant, Bull of the Woods was an instrumental piece of the puzzle to understand white (western) Canadian culture and how and why machoism and physical prowess often trump intellect and thought. To me this book was a major help with my own cultural integration.
