Great book - Norman and Maggie take the trip of a lifetime to South America on their BMW GS's and discover the joys of travel, the joys of meeting and overcoming new challenges, meeting people and cultures, and discovering the benefits of over-ripe avacados.

Remember - the locals usually know best... ;-)

A brilliant , must read, and not just for bikers and adventurers...

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it's well written and informative with relevent history inserted where appropriate. At times it doesn't flow as well as it could but that's probably just my prefered style of reading. Now on to part two, "Leprechauns in Alaska", watch this space...

Probably closer to 3.5 stars, this is the story of a bike journey through South America. The trip itself is inspiring and makes me want to pack my bags and see the world. The writing is a little clunky and contains some tortured, and some mixed, metaphors. But then he is not a writer, but a man writing about his travels. I will read the next part of their adventure, continuing up to Alaska, and hope that it loses the metaphorical confusion but keeps the wanderlust.

I really enjoyed this ... a down-to-earth adventure, honest about their shortcomings, and acknowledging all the help and love they received was the only reason they really made it. It was an amazing achievement and yet it felt like an adventure any of us could attempt. I loved their enthusiasm for local life and the characters they met along the way.
