An illustrated history of arts, crafts and design of the first peoples of South America, shown in 250 rich and vibrant photographs
This is the story of the ancient Andean art, exploring the development of fine and applied art and architecture. Site plans, maps and over 250 illustrations represent the very finest buildings and artworks of these cultures. It is the perfect introduction to the subject for anyone who wishes to find out more about these extraordinary peoples who have helped shape the cultural development of our world."
Dr. David M. Jones studied Anthropology and History at the University of California, Berkeley. He obtained a PhD in the Archeology of the Americas at the Institution of Archeology, University of London. He has written many books and articles on Mesoamerican and South American art and archeology.
Despite being 128 pages, this was an incredibly dense book, and much better suited for people who already have a deep understanding about South America, its people, and the geography. I found myself struggling to locate where anything was with very few maps included. There were many wonderful images of artifacts, and recreations of temples, towns, etc throughout but again without a base, a lot was lost on me. Also grouping topics into sections instead of chronologically did not help when the only timeline is at the beginning of the book.
