Safety Professional's Reference and Study Guide

Rate this book
While journals provide up-to-the minute information and textbooks prepare you for certification, maintaining a library suitable for a comprehensive practice can become quite costly. A collection of information drawn from textbooks, journals, and the author’s 25 years of experience, Safety Professional's Reference and Study Guide provides, as the title implies, not just a study guide but a reference that has staying power on your library shelf. A single source for technical information, the book provides: The book covers topics such as math review, ventilation, noise, gases and particulates, radiation, toxicology, industrial hygiene, biological hazards, thermal stressors, statistics, fire protection and prevention, accident investigation, mechanics, hydrostatics and hydraulics, electrical safety, engineering economy, and workers compensation. It provides step-by-step instructions on how to solve the equations and formulas on the exam and gives examples on how and when to use them. With roots that extend as far back as 1700 B.C., the safety profession has evolved over the centuries. Passage of legislation has highlighted the need for educated and knowledgeable professionals and changes in science and technology requires them to have a broad range of knowledge in areas such as biology, chemistry, mathematics, and chemistry. This book consolidates practical information and puts it within easy reach, saving you the time and trouble of searching through a myriad of resources to find what you need.

Update:

Was able to pass the ASP exam on the first try using this my main reference! I also used another test prep book and went over many practice questions on the BCSP app.

Would not recommend purchasing the BCSP self-assessment exam on their website. It is a waste of $100.

Read enough to pass the CSP without a prep course. Going to keep this on the shelf for future reference!

2023 review: Was it useful? Yes.
Was it full of factual errors, omissions, and editing errors? Also, yes.
And that’s unfortunate because:
1) CRC Press
2) it makes you distrust the accuracy of that which is correct.

2025 review: so a fourth edition just came out. All I can say is I hope that the errors have been fixed. This was enough along with a study app (with up to date) questions for my CSP, but I grew more displeased. Some bad equations. Have explained items. Unidentified variables. The list goes on and on. I may check out the modern version.

This is an amazing resource for preparing for BCSP examinations! I'm using this and DATACHEM, and I feel like I'm prepared now to sit for the OHST exam. Each chapter ends with a summary of key points, and the text covers the major areas of concern for safety professionals. I highly recommend this comprehensive resource!

Very good study guide for ASP/CSP certification, However, Its 700+ pages won't teach you a lot about safety, Big scope of industrial hygiene topics, Don't recommend it for safety newbies.
