This fun book shows readers how to make standalone character figures with polymer clay - what the author calls "Oddfae" - dragons, treefolk, witches, wizards, fugitives from fairy tales, figments of the imagination, and the slightly off-center. Readers learn about materials, special precautions and quick, simple techniques; then they will get 9 step-by-step demonstrations. Each demonstration shows how to make accurate figures, from beginning supports to sculpting the head, hands and feet (including eyes, chins, noses, brows, lips, cheeks, mouths, ears, makeup and hair), bodies, baking and costuming. There are stories by the author and poems about each character.
The individual pictured with this book is NOT the author. I know the author, Dawn M Schiller and this is definitely NOT her. I hope goodreads will correct this grave error. You can verify Dawn's work and identity at (www.)oddfaebyschiller.blogspot.com
This in hands down one of the best how-to books I have ever read. The instructions are well written, very detailed, and photographed. If you have any interest in making dolls using polymer clay, but have never done so, I would recommend starting with this book. I would stress that it doesn't just tell you how to make the characters in the book, it also encourages you to create your own and shows the techniques you will need to do so. It not only shows you how to make dolls, but gives very good instructions/advise on how to make clothing and accessories. I had actually borrowed it from the library, but when finances allow, I hope to buy a copy. I really wish all how-to books were this clear. I had also borrowed a book on how to make various types of dolls at the same time, and it was not nearly so well written.
