There was no plot. None.
It was straight up banging, and too much of it. If you want an example of a book with too much sex, this is it.
Also, it's pretty clear that this author never had anal sex or has any idea about sub/dom relationships.
Are these characters allergic to lube? Considering that they are all into orgies, you'd think they'd have industrial quantities of that stuff, but now--dry butt banging in the order of the day. It's kind of cringe-inducing, and especially coming from the 2 men who supposedly care and even love Alice. It made no sense.
Furthermore, the relationship between Alice and Jax was a pretend dom/sub relationship. She had no power. That automatically disqualifies it as a dom/sub relationship. She wasn't a true submissive--she was forced into it, and no matter how much the author said 'oh, she craved pain' in the end, no, no she did not. She might have liked it rough or raunchy, but a sub she is not. Which is fine. But it's a pet peeve of mine when authors throw random terms into their books, pretending like they understand BDSM, but in reality, it's just that they've read other uneducated 'dark romances' and are simply repeating the same stuff.
The book would've worked just as well without the unnecessary whipping...but then I feel like it would've required an actual plot, which it did not have.
More needed to be said about the 3 men too. I feel like the story lacked background info and I kept expecting some kind of backstory for them, but beyond the generic 'they were in foster care' there wasn't much to go on. Also, are they all 40? I couldn't even tell. I know Julius is. But Johnny seemed MUCH younger, but I am assuming he is also around 40? What is the purpose of them all living together at this juncture of their lives? They aren't even related, so it makes little sense. Furthermore, they don't even seem to like each other, which is weird.
Johnny reminded me of Diesel from DOV, but at least in DOV, things made sense. Here, these 3 random men are living together for no apparent reason.
Odd book.
Not bad. But odd.
