A Girl Called Alice: Wonderland Ranch Duet Book One

Rate this book
When Alice’s father needs a new heart, she’s desperate to get her hands on the money, no matter what it takes.
What it takes, as she will soon discover, is her innocence, her bodily autonomy, and a year of her life.

When I sign a no-conditions contract with the Looking Glass Auction House, agreeing to a year of sexual servitude in exchange for a small fortune, I’m pretty sure I know what I’m getting myself into. I’m the proud owner of a large library of dark romance novels, after all. I have more toxic, unhinged book boyfriends than I can keep track of.

I’m expecting a rich, brooding psychopath.

I’m not expecting three.

Jax is an enormous hunk of a man with black eyes and a shock of bright white hair. To say he’s impatient would be an understatement. His hand is always twitching toward his pocket watch. He doesn’t like to be kept waiting, and he really doesn’t like to hear the word no. Especially not from me.

Julius is tall, dark and handsome, with sad eyes and a nervous disposition. He won’t look directly at me, as if he’s ashamed that we’ve met under these circumstances. But I think I can already feel something deeper sparking between us.

And Johnny- well, there’s no other word for it. Johnny is deranged. With wild red hair and poison-green eyes, he looks like a Scottish highlander gone mad, yanked out of time and stuffed into a pair of ripped jeans and a dusty bowler hat. He watches me with a dangerous smile, his pupils blown wide, like he’s a predator and I am prey.

A Girl Called Alice is Book One in the Wonderland Ranch Duet. It’s an extra-dark, extra-spicy MFMM reverse harem romance that explores adult themes and situations, often in graphic detail. This book is a contemporary dominant/submissive fantasy reimagining of the 1865 novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. It is not a children’s tale, has very little in common with a certain beloved cartoon movie, and is not intended for any reader under the age of 18.

Well.. this was straight erotica. Barely any plot… I did enjoy some things, the writing was good and the scenes never got repetitive as many as there were, but my goodness even for someone who only reads romance/smut, this was just overkill. I ended up skimming, which I never do, bc it was too much. And some parts made me unbelievably mad, like I almost set this down and almost didn’t pick it up again, but I was determined to finish it. If this had more plot and less smut this would have been such a great story, so much wasted potential.

There was no plot. None.
It was straight up banging, and too much of it. If you want an example of a book with too much sex, this is it.
Also, it's pretty clear that this author never had anal sex or has any idea about sub/dom relationships.

Are these characters allergic to lube? Considering that they are all into orgies, you'd think they'd have industrial quantities of that stuff, but now--dry butt banging in the order of the day. It's kind of cringe-inducing, and especially coming from the 2 men who supposedly care and even love Alice. It made no sense.
Furthermore, the relationship between Alice and Jax was a pretend dom/sub relationship. She had no power. That automatically disqualifies it as a dom/sub relationship. She wasn't a true submissive--she was forced into it, and no matter how much the author said 'oh, she craved pain' in the end, no, no she did not. She might have liked it rough or raunchy, but a sub she is not. Which is fine. But it's a pet peeve of mine when authors throw random terms into their books, pretending like they understand BDSM, but in reality, it's just that they've read other uneducated 'dark romances' and are simply repeating the same stuff.
The book would've worked just as well without the unnecessary whipping...but then I feel like it would've required an actual plot, which it did not have.

More needed to be said about the 3 men too. I feel like the story lacked background info and I kept expecting some kind of backstory for them, but beyond the generic 'they were in foster care' there wasn't much to go on. Also, are they all 40? I couldn't even tell. I know Julius is. But Johnny seemed MUCH younger, but I am assuming he is also around 40? What is the purpose of them all living together at this juncture of their lives? They aren't even related, so it makes little sense. Furthermore, they don't even seem to like each other, which is weird.
Johnny reminded me of Diesel from DOV, but at least in DOV, things made sense. Here, these 3 random men are living together for no apparent reason.
Odd book.
Not bad. But odd.

To much is never enough

There's a lot of spice. Like ALOT of spice. Masses, tonnes, truckloads, cargo planes worth of spice. But it's toe curling, squeeling into a pillow goodness. So as they say, to much is never enough.

The plot part of the story happens quite slowly. Everything builds at a slow pace but if you're ever bored I will eat my hat. I've been completely invested the whole way through and I can't wait to read the next one. My only regret was reading this on the train on my way to work. I thought I was a pro but this had me blushing up a storm.

Is this basically erotica? Yes. Was I completely engrossed in what was going to happen? Also yes.
