This is a very thorough guide to gardening. As a beginner, I wanted something that would cover the basics and help me figure out the best ways to use my space and what to grow. This fits the bill. May different designs and examples and pros and cons are discussed, and topics such as companion planting and common plant diseases are covered. The most helpful aspect of the book is that the end contains several actual garden blueprints with suggested ways to set up the plants and the budget needed. Very helpful.
This book is a great resource for beginning vegetable gardeners like myself. It addresses everything from growing vegetables in containers to raised beds. The book introduced me to the square foot gardening method, which I will be trying out this spring.
The book also has great information on watering, organic gardening, composting, garden pests and what tools a small space gardener needs. There's a even a short chapter that includes some recipes.
All in all a great find for a gardener who needs to start with the basics. If that's you, then I highly recommend this book.
Everything you need to know to grow all the vegetables a couple can eat for a season in 8 square feet of 1 foot squares with less expense, labour, time, water, and work.
With the advent of Community Gardening, you don't even need a backyard.
This would be a great book for beginners. I was able to learn a few things but some of it was just too basic for me. Great for learning the little tips and tricks about veggies though!
