Flynn was one of the elite, a highly trained sniper in the British army who was proud of his skills and lived by a strict moral code. But even the best can crack when the stress becomes unbearable and now he’s on the rampage bearing a grudge and carrying an arsenal of stolen weapons.
He believes that good soldiers are being killed because governments go to war over oil. In his twisted mind, anyone who drives a gas guzzling 4X4 is the enemy and deserves to die.
As he carves a trail of terror and death across the country, the authorities are closing in. But for one man, it’s become personal.
Nick Sullivan is bearing a grudge of his own and is hard on the heels of the sniper. But when he finally hunts down his quarry, will his thirst for revenge blind him to the fact that he’s no match for a professionally trained killer?
For Flynn is the best there is. He’s a master of his craft

This review is of the audio/ Audible version.
Nail biting, intelligent, actioner with morality.
From the first page, this is very fast paced actioner, but with smarts, again deftly told by Karla Forbes. She pulls the many threads of the plot together to the very end, with a fantastic conclusion and twist?? Well, you'll have to listen, won't you?
Nick, again is the everyman, with his particular set of skills, (his quoting for every situation being one of them). He doesn't quite take the back seat but his girlfriend Annalise takes more of the front stage as part of the story involves her, and then some! Poor girl is put through the wringer and develops into a very sad story providing some great domestic drama in between the action. This is where Karla excels, frankly, the ability to give us a full range of human emotion and great characters with dialogue, then have them running through a debris-strewn building trying to escape someone or thing.
Graig Bowles has really come into his own in the narration and does an excellent job here of keeping the pace and the quippy (and emotional ) dialogue..long may this continue for the next 5 (or more) novels.

Note: While this is Book 3 in the series, it works fine as a stand alone novel.

Nick Sullivan is on the hunt again but this time he’s chasing a very determined and capable opponent. Flynn was an interesting antagonist. He was loyal and a hard worker but then circumstances pushed him over the edge. In a twisted way, he started targeting those he saw as the source of the problem – people owning large gas guzzling vehicles. His actions quickly put him on the radar of all law enforcement, including the small agency Nick moonlights with.

I think Nick was built to hunt down bad guys. He loves the danger and the rush. While he’s really good at this profession, he lacks skills in so many other areas, like personal relationships. In fact, his relationship with Annalise is pushed to a breaking point. I still don’t like Nick but I do find him interesting. I suspect Annalise is starting to feel the same way. Nick is still pretty dismissive of the feelings of anyone around him, though I think he does try with Annalise. Tries and usually fails.

This is the first book in this series where two women share a scene and talk to one another. Yes, it’s about a guy but not in any romantic way. So the series is getting closer to passing the Bechdel test. The lack of gender balance does make the story a little cliche at times, and predictable. The ladies need rescuing even when they try to be brave and heroic themselves.

The pace of the action is good, keeping my attention the entire time. I really liked how Flynn’s character develops as we learn more about him. By the end, I could sympathize with him even as I condemned his actions. In fact, I liked him more than Nick. 3.5/5 stars.

The Narration: Craig Bowles is doing a great job as Nick. He has Nick’s moods down to a T – angry Nick, frustrated Nick, contemplative Nick, etc. Bowles had unique voices for all characters though sometimes they blended together when a couple of the guys were chatting together. His one female voice is feminine. When Cassi and her mom are talking together, her mom is a bit weepy and that kept the two voices distinguishable from one another. Pacing is good and there are no tech issues with the recording. 4/5 stars.

I received a free copy of this book. My opinions are 100% my own.

This is the third in Karla Forbes Nick Sullivan thriller series. I love the concept (spoiler if you haven’t read the earlier books) of Nick falling into the profession after being an investment banker, so not being the most competent spy, but definitely the most enthusiastic (and hot-headed). And he continues to not follow orders in this very competent thriller.

This time, Nick’s pursuing a lead in his own time when an old Uni friend’s name is discovered on a list in a dead hitman’s pocket, so he’s taken Annalise on a holiday to Scotland. But that holiday becomes more dangerous and more personal than Nick could ever have bargained for.

Once again, a good story, which is very well narrated by Craig Bowles, as Nick tries to find out why his old friend, Andrew is a target, and what, if anything, links the dead hitman and the sniper who is slowly working his way north. With a hitman who decides almost on a whim who is guilty and deserving to be killed, and Nick and Annalise finding themselves in his cross-hairs, the author balances tension with humour to keep the reader interested throughout.

What with a madman shooting 4 x 4 drivers, old friends in danger and pretending they're going on a walking holiday in Scotland, Nick Sullivan soon has his hands pretty full in Sniper. Good job he's not engaged to me because the madman would have needed to shoot me dead before I'd go on a walking holiday anywhere! There are so many threads in this story, once again eloquently performed by Graig Bowles, but because they are all quite disparate at no time does it become confusing. In fact it's very clever the way in which Ms Forbes brings them all together for the final resolution. Then there's the ending - no spoilers here but really? Really? How can you do this to me? Now I'm all of a tizzy! You'll have to listen to it to find out why, but I cannot believe what Ms Forbes has done to me! #justsaying

This is the third book in the series and, like the others, is action packed right from the start and thunders along to the thrilling conclusion. This time Nick Sullivan is on the trail of a sniper who is bumping off drivers of 4x4 vehicles.

I can’t help liking Nick, but I also feel very sorry for poor Annelies. The poor girl must be worried to death every time he steps out of the door! It was nice to see her with a bigger part I this story.

I listened to the Audible version of this book, brilliantly narrated by Craig Bowles. I have my fingers crossed that there will be a 4th installment!

I’ve just read my first Karla Forbes book, Sniper and boy did I enjoy it! It was non stop thrills with interesting characters and interwoven subplots, which all came together nicely, for a refreshingly different ending, by one of possibly my favourite clear sighted characters, Annie. Since it’s the third in the Nick Sullivan series, I’m just going to have to get the previous two books. The only small drawback for me was the narrators lack of delineation of paragraphs, chapters etc. He has a very nice voice, with excellent diction, but for me, I’d possibly enjoy Ms Forbes books a little more by reading them. This was a free audible book I received .

You always know you're going to get a good audio book when it comes to the Nick Sullivan series. Another action packed adventure, involving Nick and Annalise. The sniper is shooting 4 x 4 drivers randomly. When a friends name becomes linked to the investigation, Nick and Annalise set off to Scotland for a "holiday" to investigate. When the danger comes close they are dragged into the search for the sniper. Another great story from this author, the narrator really suits these books and the action always keeps the story moving along.

Oh what can I say - just gets better and better. So glad Annaleise was back into the mix, you so cant take Nick seriously. What an ending, cant wait to see how that is resolved. Hard to write without spoilers.

Such a fun listen but there were a lot of serious issues there which made you think about where the world is going.

I was given a free copy by the narrator but that in no way impacted my review.

I don’t do spoilers, but honestly aaargh I was up & down with this 1, my most favourite yet!
I think between Karla Forbes & Craig Bowles it’s a great team. Craig just gets the narration going, excellent.

Another great book in the series. I loved this story of a sniper angry at the world and going after the oil industry and the rush to find him and stop him before things get even worse. The story was fast paced and I love the continuation of Nicks and Annalise story. You won’t be disappointed.

Really enjoyable, great characters. There are many different threads to this story which all tie up together at the end. This is the third Nick Sullivan Thriller and now that I have discovered him I will definitely be reading the 2 earlier books.

Nick is back in this new book. This one starts off with a huge bang. very exciting start.

The book feels so much better written, it is much more complex and more exciting, mixing Nick’s personal and work life all in one. Some moments of emotional drama, excitement, a bit of everything.

I felt that this book improved on the other two I have listened to and reviewed, Fallout and The Third Wave with the writing and research being much better. Although I did find Analise to be a little annoying towards the end, but I did understand her point of view.

A very enjoyable fast paced thriller, looking forward to more of Nick Sullivan.
