Submissive Fairy Tales

Rate this book
Enter a world of mythological places, mermaids, king's harems, dragon-like beings, and gypsies—a world of erotic domination and submission in times and places far different from our own. Submissive Fairy Tales is a collection of previously published novellas by Kitty Thomas: The Auction, Awakening, and The King's Pleasure.
Warning: This work is dark, literary erotica—not romance—it is meant for a mature, adult audience.

The Auction
Belle Walker lives in a strict society where women are treated as property, sold to the highest bidder soon after their eighteenth birthday. The monsters outside the city have promised to leave them in peace, but one of them is intent on having Belle as his own.

Warning: This story contains sexual situations of dubious consent, master/slave, multiple partners, girl on girl, alien sex, and oral play.

Awakening
Nerina has lived all her life as a mermaid, fascinated by humans and land but also repulsed by sex and unable to understand love. Her curiosity gets her captured by a human male intent on awakening her lust and turning her human.

The King's Pleasure
In the kingdom of Himeros, Abigail is despised for her gypsy heritage. Pushed to the fringes of society, she’s forced to break the law in order to help feed her family. When a castle guard catches her stealing bread, he intends to cut off her hand for the offense, but the King has other plans.

Warning: This story contains master/slave, group sexual activity, mild sadomasochism, oral and anal play, exhibitionism, and voyeurism.

ღ A friend of mine recommended this book to me. Lord have mercy I had no idea what I was signing up for when I got this book… I know that I’ve always enjoyed reading Kitty Thomas books, so I jumped in right away, To find that, All three stories have bit of somewhat dark submissive fairy tales, but it incorporates bit of slavery & bondage, I might want to remind you that these are short steamy stories

The Auction
It's a little on the odd side, but still a fun read. A really good short dark erotica. with Aliens.

Awakening

This is a dark & twisted adult fairy tale about a classic myth with Mermaid’s, with also bit of dark side. Kyros is the human that been fascinated by sea nymphs... So The legend about mermaids that can be turned into humans if the right pleasure is awaken within them

King's Pleasure- is tale of a young gypsy thief named Abigail who is caught stealing - as punishment, she is forced to serve her time as the new King's slave.

Although well written, the name and stories within are not Submissive in the least.

Submission requires consent of both parties. Consent can not be given in fear of harm/death, yet that is what each story is about. Dubious consent in cases such as this borderlines rape, the sex or die trope at best.

Calling someone Master and showing obedience doesn't automatically equal Submission and although the women in the stories do eventually enjoy their situations (Or are resigned to them), that does not in any way negate their lack of true consent.

If you like sci-fi rape/dub-con fantasies with some pleasure/pain tossed in, you may enjoy this book. But don't fool yourself thinking this is in any way, shape, or form about Submission because it's not.

So, I have read these individually... well, 2 of the 3...

The King's Pleasure ★★★★★

Wow! Another spectacular showing from Kitty Thomas - she truly is a master at weaving a wicked story that leaves you pondering the lives of her characters long after you have read the final page.

THE KINGS PLEASURE is a fantastically sexy and erotic tale of a young and beautiful gypsy thief named Abigail who is caught stealing - as punishment, she is forced to serve her time as the new King's slave. The young king is determined to rule his kingdom differently than the previous king, his father, in what could possibly be likened to a reign of terror.

King Niall hatches a plan that is sure to change the future of his country while making an example of the beautiful young thief. As the story is told, her position as the King's slave doesn't appear to be much of a hardship - in fact, as his first chosen slave, her position is a very prestigious position for any woman to be in, much less a poor gypsy girl. The first chosen slave is much like the position of Queens in other countries - making her the envy of all the formally trained women who have been groomed to satisfy the king in all his desires. As the first chosen, Abigail has a number of obstacles to face, but to compound matters even more, she is despised because of her gypsy heritage - then, throw in the fact that she must be schooled by the King in the ways of the flesh and her role as a slave and you have a delicious recipe for a racy read.

If you are a fan of Kitty Thomas, you will not be disappointed with this story. Leave it to Ms. Thomas to blur the lines of fantasy and reality in a sensational combination of BDSM elements and a solid story resulting in a great read!

The Auction ★★

I didn't think it was possible to find a Kitty Thomas book that I didn't like, but we have a winner...err a loser... Oh! I don't want to say it, but I did not like THE AUCTION at all. I thought Kitty could make me like aliens, but not even she could do it!

I am sorry my dear Kitty, as much as it pains me to say it, this was not one of my favorites.

Awakening - This one doesn't not seem like my cuppa, so I didn't read or review it.

What a wonderful way to get three of Kitty Thomas' short stories. I have heard great things about her writing, but have been somewhat reluctant to commit to one of her full length books thinking them too heavy. Well, I'm convinced to try them now - Ms. Thomas' writing is indeed wonderful, easily accessible and surprisingly she makes the first person POV work very well.

I enjoyed all three stories which centered around a woman unwillingly (at first)finding herself in a culture very different from her own. The process of each woman finding the strength in submission and the benefits of her new culture was fascinating and, although quite short, the author effectively conveyed the struggle each woman had in coming to terms with not only their new lives, but their own previously hidden needs.

I don't know what words to use to express how I feel about this book, but I'll try. I am a big fan of erotica. This book takes erotica to a whole new level. This is a very dark read and is not for the faint of heart. There is a lot of BDSM and non-consensual seduction (Fifty Shades is tame in comparison). This is a book of three short stories. Some of the scenarios are mind boggling, but that is why we read these fantasies. You will have to relax your mind and go with it. The author delves into the relationship between a doms and unwilling (at first) submissives. In every scenario the woman has an almost primal reaction to submit and let herself be taken over. I would have given this book five stars, but I didn't like the cruelty of the dom in the last story. No matter how much I tried to relax my logical mind, I just can't see a woman going through all that and still love and trust the one that abused her. That being said, I still loved the book over all. The sex scenes were smoking hot and I am a sucker for a happy ending-even if it seems unrealistic.

Auction 1 star
Not to my taste. The writing was fine I was sure but the entire premise seemed more dubious than I was expecting. Meh. I didn’t like it

Awakening 3 stars
Read this pretty quickly so perhaps that is what made the difference. A bit odd in terms of the premise. I don’t like kidnapping romances (lord, why is that a thing) and this was a little close to it. But since the heroine was enjoying herself, I am giving it three stars.

King Pleasure 2 star
Meh ... got bored l. Also I am not sure how this is submissive as she was given no real choice. This was her literal punishment and that irked me.

Lastly, slavery is not "permissive". The fact that the world has slavery (literally) and that is a sign of sexual liberation is such BS that I was angry until I had to tell myself that this is not worth it.

Either way or left a bad last in my mouth.

Nope, definitely not for me .... felt bored and slightly horrified. I am clearly the wrong audience.
Also: doesn't submission require consent on both sides? These stories are very stereotypical "woman gets captured, tortured and for some inexplicapble reason falls for the guy responsible for the loss of freedom and lots of pain" (kinda an advanced weird Stockholm syndrom) ....

The Auction
------------------------------

Set in an ambiguous future, humanity has left behind the `source planet' and settled in a new and backwards world. Science and technology have regressed, books are artefacts and women are commodities once again. On her eighteenth birthday Annabelle `Belle' Walker, along with other ripe young women, are being auctioned to the highest bidder. Under the pretence of redistributing city funds, nubile young women are put on the block and sold for a price - the lucky ones have family members and lovers who will buy them back and set them free. But for the unlucky sold it's a life of quiet humiliation . . . or, as Belle is about to discover, something much worse.

Belle's fiery spirit attracts the wrong sort of buyer - a monster from the city outskirts, a dragon-man with red skin and orange eyes, sharp teeth and an impressive wing-span. Belle is taken back to his cave, where she will pleasure both him and his blue-skinned brother, referring to them as `Master' and `Sir' respectively.

But will this monster be Belle's end, or will he help set her free?

When Belle is taken to the monster Master's cave and introduced to his brother, `Sir' (her other bed-mate) she is shocked, horrified . . . and aroused. These men are dragon-like, with wings, blue and red-tinged skin and reddened eyes. But they are also thoroughly masculine; lean and muscled to perfection. Belle cannot believe the way she wants them, and is willing to succumb to them. Her obvious arousal in captivity perverts her conscience and she wonders if she is losing a bit of her soul and dignity, bit by bit, every time she wantonly and willingly succumbs to these brothers . . .

I loved the world Kitty Thomas created. It's a little bit sci-fi, with a touch of historic slavery and plenty of dark erotica. I thought the inclusion of `monster masters' was quite ingenious - so often in Kitty's works the dominant (human) male is bordering on demonic (`Comfort Food', being a prime example). But in `The Auction' the heroine's sexual partners are, literally, monsters - and one of them even has a devilish resemblance. It's a nice bit of fantasy to play with. And, this being a Kitty Thomas novel(la); the sex scenes are divinely delicious. This is a short story, 20000 words, but she takes the time to write languorous and decadently-detailed sex scenes that will leave readers sizzling.

My only complaint about `The Auction' is that it was too short! I wanted more, more, more! I would love to read another novella set in this universe (perhaps revisiting the monster family?) or even a full-length novel set in the same world. `The Auction' was another lovely bit of sexy-sinister writing from the darkly talented erotica author, Kitty Thomas.

Awakening
------------------------------

Nerina, a beautiful mermaid, has been caught. Tangled in a net and exposed to the lascivious gazes of fishermen - she is at their mercy, and could end up as a delicacy on their banquet table, or subjected to their monstrous human rutting.

But then the captain arrives - a dark and beautiful man called Kyros. He has been fascinated by sea nymphs, sirens and mermaids for a long time ... and has often wondered what he would do if he ever caught one.

Now that Nerina is in his clutches, he intends to replace her fin with feet and introduce her to mankind's baser pleasures.

In the past, Thomas has written to the extremes of BDSM and fetishism. From captive/torturer plots to an island community dedicated to the master/slave dynamic. By comparison, `Awakening' is tame-Kitty. The 21,500-word novella is sort of Kitty-lite, and would be a great `beginners' novel for those who want to dip their toes in the pool of darker erotica.

`Awakening' definitely leans toward the more `literary' end of Thomas's usual literary-erotica genre. The novella is based around the idea of transformation and contradiction - mermaid to human, sea to land, innocence to guiltiness. Thomas explores these concepts through the ancient mythology of mermaids, who are in themselves a contradiction. On the one hand they are sexless - fins instead of genitalia. Yet, sea nymphs and sirens have been written as lurers of men to their watery graves.

With the character of Nerina, Thomas takes the traditional mermaid legend and twists it to romance and lust. The dastardly captain, Kyros, decides to force a human metamorphosis on the sea nymph Nerina and have his carnal way with her.

`Awakening' is less about domination than Thomas's other works, as it has a far more romantic bent, as both Nerina and Kyros learn something about themselves with her transformation. Kitty Thomas has done it again. She takes what would otherwise be an uncomfortable and squirm-inducing idea and crafts it into a beautiful tale of human dynamics and lust, exploring the many facets of want and craving. Divine.

The King's Pleasure
------------------------------

Abigail has just been spared, upon mercy of the King. Caught stealing bread from within the palace walls, punishment should be swift and merciless, an eye for an eye. Abigail's punishment should be especially severe, since she is part-gypsy. But King Niall has intervened, desperate to show his people he's not the tyrant his father was.

But Niall has big plans for Abigail. Because he's not sparing her life for nothing; he intends to make her his slave - the first (and quite possibly only) woman in his harem. With Abigail by his side, Niall intends to mend the discrimination against gypsies and set the kingdom of Himeros on a new, peaceful, course.

The Himeros elite expect Niall to treat Abigail and the other gypsies the same way as his father, the former King, did. But although Niall is an expert warrior, he has no wish for such unnecessary cruelty in his kingdom. Through Abigail he has found a way to mend the wrongs of the past, and set his kingdom on a peaceful path. But Niall gets more than he bargained for when he starts to feel for Abigail as more than a political ploy. . .

As with all of Kitty Thomas's erotica novellas, `The King's Pleasure' is a world unto itself and a succulent little slice of story. There's so much packed into this little novella; politics, love, romance and a beautifully erotic tale between a king and his `slave' (whose love turns a kingdom on its head). Beautiful, as always.

description

I didn't hate any of these stories, but I really only enjoyed the last of the three in an "erotic" sense, and even then there were some issues. The first story wasn't really my thing: I like my men to be human, sorry. The writing was pretty solid across the board, so for the first story, it was more or less just an interest thing that kept me reading, and a hope I'd like the other stories more. As for the mermaid tale, it was a little too fluffy for me. I liked it, but I didn't find it particularly sensual or sexy. Just... cute with a bit of... non-con/dubious consent? I don't know.

The third story snagged my interest immediately, though the ending had me sort of rolling my eyes, and the mention of the dog scene was just too squicky for me. Had to blank that out.

Overall, I'm happy I read the books, and I'll probably look into more of the author's work at a later point in time.

The women in those stories are made to feel degraded before they feel anything else. In a way are brain washed to feel. Kinda like when the one girl to told to tell the guy "I love you." Didn't enjoy any of the stories.

This collection of three reimagined fairytales is the perfect book to read at bedtime so I don't stay up until my eyes feel like sand has been rubbed in them. They have BDSM elements and give the heat you would expect in a Kitty Thomas story.

The Auction (aka Beauty and the Beast)

In a dystopian future on a new planet, women are auctioned off when they turn 18. Usually it is prearranged so they don't actually become a slave, and just go on with their previous life. Annabelle has grudgingly set up a situation with a man she isn't really into but can tolerate. When the day of the auction arrives, she realizes he will go along with the plan, but has no intention of letting her be free. However, there is someone else bidding on her and wins. It is one of the dragonlike humanoids that are the original inhabitants of the planet. Annabelle makes a futile attempt at escape, but he just flies off with her to his cave. He lives there with his brother and within their culture they share their mates. All she knows them as are Master and Sir. She is slowly falling into her submissive role and is scared, which leads to some trouble for the trio. This was a good short naughty bedtime story.

Awakening (aka The Little Mermaid)

Nerida swims too close to the shore and is caught by fishermen. The lord of the castle is asked whether she should be killed for the feast (mermaid fin is a delicacy) or thrown back into the water. Kyros decides to keep her for himself. He has a mermaid to break to see if the legends are true.

In this version of the fairytale, mermaids do not procreate like humans, rather like fish by laying eggs. So, the idea of any kind of sexual intimacy is foreign and distasteful to Nerida. Kyros demands she call him Master and he goes about seducing her in hopes that her tail will turn into legs.

The King's Pleasure (aka a loose interpretation of The Thief and the King by the Grimm Brothers)

Niall is the new king in a country where s€xual freedom and debauchery is accepted as part of their culture. Think Arabian knights and harems. Abigail is caught trying to steal a loaf of bread from the King. The only thing saving her from losing a hand is that the king wants her. He hasn't started his harem, he isn't interested in the simpering courtesans, but Abigail intrigues him so he takes her as his first concubine.

She is given a crash course in the sensual arts, and being the King's pet. There is trouble though in the form of a gilted courtesan who makes the king doubt Abigail's motives for becoming his slave.

Of the three stories, I liked The King's Pleasure the best. There were many erotic situations that the reserved and shy Abigail was put in. Sharing, group ○rgi€s, and punishment highlight this s€xually free culture. If this were ever made into a full length novel I would snap it up. That being said the story is fleshed out completely on its own.

Submissive Fairy Tales is a collection of previously published novellas by Kitty Thomas. I've been trawling Smashwords for a story that could scratch my non-con itch, and finally decided to purchase this collection by Kitty Thomas because 1) I thought that Comfort Food was one of the best erotic stories I've read and 2) it was cheaper to get a collection from Amazon Kindle than the individual stories - from Smashwords. Unfortunately, this was completely not what I was looking for. Perhaps it is unfair to be unhappy with a book that turned out to be contrary to my expectations, but I had other problems with the stories that were did not have to do with disappointed expectations so my rating (which is higher than my emotional reaction towards the book would suppose) stays.

Fairy tales, fantasy, or alternative whatever, I ended up coining the term "fake fantasy" as I read through each of the three stories. Not by world-building, speech, mannerisms, and thought processes was I convinced that I was reading any of the above. It read like contemporary with a veneer of fantasy, and it sorely disappointed me. If an author wanted to write one of the above, why not make it an immersive experience for the reader? Instead, it felt half-hearted as if the sole intent of the story was to get the reader off on the sex and other erotic scenes.

The stories were not non-consensual but more like dubious consent. Yes, I should probably have read the warnings on the blurbs. Actually, I had but I had also hoped that it would still have other elements of what I was looking for like alien sex? I don't read much of that and wanted to try some more. It was not something I would call alien sex.

For those who need a HEA, whether it makes sense or not, these stories should fit the bill. As for me, NONE of the HEA endings made sense to me. I got so sick of the dubious-consent-with-a-kindly-but-stern-master leading to HEA, and the last story was the absolute worst of the bunch. All of these relationships were Stockholm Syndrome ones but unlike in Comfort Food which made that distinction clear, none of these stories did. It's like they were screaming, "It's love! It's love! They do love each other!" Yeah_right.

Individual short reviews of the stories:

"The Auction" -
Ohh, such promise. Alien sex, the blurb warning said. A spirited girl. A society where brothers share their mates with each other. Alas! There's no alien here. It's basically a dragon shape-shifter, and the sex is with the human self. Said spirited girl quickly succumbs to her vagina and relishes being the property of the so-called monster. I thought that the punishment was silly. The reasons for why the dragon shape-shifter needed a human mate seemed inconsistent. There was a m/f/f scene in there. This did nothing for me, and I would much rather that the little "family" remained a m/f/m because Lily was such a bland, throwaway character.

"Awakening" -
Mermaids! Forced seduction! Mermaids! Despite the author's attempts to make her sound like a mermaid, her thought processes and speech sounded human. It was odd what things she knew as a mermaid about human things and what things she didn't. Her comparisons were more in line with human thought. All this was BEFORE Bleh! Too predictable.

"The King's Pleasure" -
OMG. I could barely stomach reading this - at least the first half. We have a King who doesn't want to be called "Your Majesty" by his guards in his own home:
The guard genuflected and began to explain himself. “Your M—”

Niall cleared his throat. “You know how I feel about that at home.” The king loathed the too-formal address and reserved it only for official business and formal occasions. Being awakened in the middle of the night by a screaming peasant was hardly a formal occasion.
He's also soooo good that he's giving away money to the poor:
“Why would she be stealing bread?”

“I’m sorry?” Robert said as if Niall hadn’t enunciated clearly enough.

“Two days ago, I instructed you to take money from the treasury and feed the poor of the kingdom. I told you to make sure everyone had plenty of food to get them through the feast and festival this weekend. It’s hardly appropriate to have a feast of plenty with starving subjects. Would you not agree?”

Robert looked at the ground. The money was missing from the treasury, so it had been taken. It just hadn’t been used for the intended purpose.

“That’s a very fine belt and shoes you have on,” Niall remarked. “Quite a step up from what I issued you.”

“I…um...” the guard stammered.

Niall crossed his arms over his chest. “So let me see if I properly understand things. I gave you an order to take money and feed the hungry; in direct violation of that order you go shopping. Perhaps we should chop off your hand. It seems appropriate considering the weight of your crime compared to hers. After all, that was what you’d intended for a far lesser offense.”
The sentiment is well and good, but the execution was clumsy.

I was also unable to believe that this not-a-virgin, poverty-class, half-gypsy had culturally induced modesty and sexual inhibitions while the upper class, rich white folks were sexually uninhibited and liberated. It took this blond god of a king, who may just have a hint of madness in him, to relieve her of her unwanted inhibitions. The fact that he put her through hell because of an unwarranted suspicion meant nothing to her because, you see, for some reason, she loves him. Gah! At least the erotic scenes in this story were pretty hot.

I would rate the overall collection 1.5 stars rated downward because my disappointment was fairly acute, but the stories were, overall, written fairly well, and it seemed too unfair to penalize so harshly for the other problems so 2 stars it is.

2nd reading. 3 novellas
The Auction: Reverse harem with aliens.
Awakening: Mermaid becomes human when seduced by a man.
The King's Pleasure: Gypsy becomes the king's concubine after stealing from him. He is poisoned by doubt and shames her.

They're okay, but little more than porn with plot (though the 2nd one is a lot less porny). Well written, but like little spank bank fantasies more than anything else.

I was enjoying this series of books, while not exactly submissive, they were erotic. But something in the last book, The Kings Pleasure, really ruined it for me. I was not expecting to read that, and although it was just a small paragraph, really a sentence or two, it really turned me off of the whole book after that. I liked the creativity and imagination that went in to writing the book, but would have enjoyed it a lot more without that part.

A compilation of three short works, Kitty Thomas’ ‘The Auction’, ‘Awakening’, and ‘The King’s Pleasure’, uses three different settings to portray women in submissive roles.

‘The Auction’ is a sci-fi story about Annabelle whose time it is to be auctioned off; a custom that all women go through. To the horror and morbid fascination of all the on-looking town’s people, Annabelle is purchased, not by one of the young men of the town, but one of the natives of the planet.

‘Awakening’ is an erotic twist on the legend of mermaids. In this novella, legend says that if you can capture a mermaid and seduce her into the world of sexual pleasure, then her fin will be replaced with legs and she will be yours forever. When the mermaid Nerina gets swept up in a net and up onto a ship, she doesn’t believe the legends. But the determined gaze of the captain and the possessive touch of his hands lead her to begin feeling strange things…

‘The King’s Pleasure’ is the classic story of a beautiful young woman falling on hard times. Forced into a life of thievery to feed herself and her family, Abigail makes the desperate mistake of trying to steal from the King. Entranced by her beauty, the King takes her into his harem instead of maiming her for stealing. As his slave she is at the whim of the King to be used for his pleasure and the debauchery of the hedonistic court.

The only complaint this reader has is that each novella was too short. Kitty Thomas wove such intriguing settings that this reader was completely absorbed. Each novel ends abruptly, almost as if the author was trying to quickly wrap things up. If you’re going to write a short story then please at least take the time to tie it up neatly. Aside from that, they were well-written novella’s and gave this reader almost everything she could want out of an erotica novel. Creatively interlacing eroticism and sensuality into classical stories is a cocktail I wish more authors would come up with instead of mistaking crude for erotic, or trying to rewrite ‘50 Shades of Grey’.

Each of these unique stories is laden with eroticism. The title explains the underlying theme of submission in the book. There are elements of all types in this book, BDSM, exhibitionism, group play, etc. but the eroticism in this book really lies in the exchange of power play. All three women find themselves in positions where they have to submit to the will of a strange man. Helpless to the ministrations of the men mastering their bodies, each woman has to accept and embrace the dark yearnings inside. Both the classical settings and the integral submission of each heroine creates the perfect fantasy. Are there dark feelings in every woman begging to be set free from societal confines? Feminism might argue otherwise.

An author who faithfully allows each character their true voice...
I'm a huge Kitty Thomas fan, she is a definite one click author for me--since I became acquainted with the novel comfort food. You should know going into this read that it is done on the premise of fantasy; therefore in order to enjoy this book you are going to have to be a reader who can allow your imagination to go with the flow of the author's intent. The book covers the lifestyle and behaviors of those who practice BDSM. It covers things like dominance, submission, degradation, and even the occasional mind !@#$%.
If you are someone who can enjoy allowing your imagination to give way to fantasy, then I have no doubt that you will enjoy this read. One of the things that I respect about this author is that she gives voice to her characters rather than giving in to popular opinion. Though this isn't a dark read like her book 'Comfort food,' it is a read in which the Doms can be rather brusque and at times even come off as mean; or such was the case in the last short story. In my humble opinion this did not detour from the story line; it was only a case of Ms. Thomas giving her character voice and allowing him to be his true self. I will say that when you get a book by this author, you get quality and you get the true essence of each and every character within it's pages.
Ms. Thomas is and will remain a one click author for me, as her talent speaks for itself.

This is a collection of three of Kitty Thomas's previously published novellas The Auction, Awakening, and The King's Pleasure. Anything by Kitty Thomas is guaranteed to make you squirm in both the good and bad ways.

The Auction: Women are put up for auction in an annual tradition, and when a troublesome young woman is won by an alien humanoid from outside the city border, no one steps in to her rescue. It takes a few weeks but she gradually comes to enjoy her captivity. Rating: A

Awakening: A mermaid is captured by a ship and held captive by its captain. When the captain explains he is going to force her to shape shift into a full human she's terrified, but she gradually comes to find herself looking forward to it. Rating: B-

The King's Pleasure: Gypsy woman is caught stealing in the king's court and instead of punishing her the king takes her as his personal concubine. The woman is forced to learn the complex rules of court and face the disapproving scorn from her family. Rating: B+

I enjoyed this collection. I had wanted to read a few of these before, but I'm glad I held off since it's a real steal bundled together.
