I read about 40% and had to quit. When I read this line, "She'd learned to breathe without him in her orbit, although she'd never filled her lungs as deeply since or felt that she could get quite enough air." This was when I knew I was done. It's been 10 years at least since this guy was out of her life, and I just don't do well with chick lit that is too chick. This is chick enough to make me want to vomit. That said, my mother and sisters will probably like it! :)
A tiny child's face hidden within each painting is at the heart of the mystery surrounding world-renowned artist, Catarina di Rossi. It's this mystery that is also at the heart of the broken relationships with her two daughters. Anna and her sister, Jilly, walked away from their mother and the family fortune over a decade ago in order to not only find themselves out from under the shadow of their famous mother, but also to get away from the constant pain of being ignored for the sake of their mother's passion.
A Face Within is a story of the complications of families. The hurt, pain, betrayal, bitterness, rejection and feeling of lack of love that shape and damage the individual. Unfortunately, these emotions and problems are passed from generation to generation. Kate Cornwell wrapped her story up with the happy ever after ending of fairy tales. I don't believe that is reality but it did create a happy ending.
I put off reading this for quite awhile and then read the entire book last night. Once I started I just wanted to see how the story ended. I was pleased it all seemed to turn out all right, guess I love a happy ending. Even though this story has some darker elements (psychological torment, physical abuse)it still seemed pertinent to the character development. Not my normal reading fare I still enjoyed it.
Ugh! Seemingly interesting premise - female painter always adds a small face into all of her paintings; loved her dad, hated her mom; less-than-loving relationship with 2 daughters; once grown, they confront her... blah, blah, blah... couldn't wait for it to end...
This book was just okay. I enjoyed it, but the ending was kind of ridiculous. I felt like the author spent a lot of time building things up, but didn't allow enough time to wrap things up.
