Set in the same world as Executive Perks. It's not unusual for playboy Brendan Beckett to wake up with a girl in his bed. One holding a gun to his head, though, does give him pause. In the dark, he can't see the female burglar grilling him about some safe, but he has to admit he likes the feel of her straddling him to keep him still. Sophia may not know her last name or her real age, but she knows the life of crime, usually as bait for the rich men she cons. But now she's looking for a mysterious puzzle-box that her mentor urgently needs. When she can't get any information out of Brendan during her midnight foray into his apartment, she crashes his sister's wedding to meet him and hopefully spark his interest. The stacked beauty sparks something, all right-his suspicion. At his house in the Cayman Islands, Brendan's determined to get the truth out of her. Or seduce her. Actually, he's kind of good either way.

Sophia is a strong female with a lot to hide and Brendan is a slick playboy who finds himself enraptured with a secretive woman. While he attempts to seduce his feisty mystery lady at his seclusive beach retreat, there’s a scheme going on behind his back. Arthur, the man who raised Sophia, is after something he believes Brendan has and he’ll do whatever it takes to get it, and he’s so cold and emotionless that he could care less if Sophia gets hurt in the process. When the truth comes out, the fireworks truly explode and things get intense! I never really could have guessed what was really going on & what everyone was after and it was definitely a mystery I enjoyed following and I wanted to solve.
My biggest problem with the book was that some of the things that the characters did and said were not believable. I mean almost any man would think it was really strange that a woman would make obvious advances toward him, drag him to his bedroom and then turn around – for no obvious reason – and catch serious attitude with him for being with a lot of women. Sophia’s attitude and obvious issues could throw me out of the story from time to time, but it wasn’t enough to ruin an enjoyable story, especially after such a great start. Likewise, Brendan would do and say things to Sophia that didn’t make sense to me. Other than these few odd behaviors and conversations the story was well played out and the characters were interesting and likable. Sophia starts off shady, but you eventually really root for her to get her man. Brendan is a charmer all the way around, so you really want him to find a way to forgive her, and love her. Overall, it was a worthy read and I wouldn’t mind reading something else by this author.

Brendan Beckett is woken one night by a female straddling him, holding a gun to his head and asking about a safe. He gains the upper hand only to be knocked unconscious. Sophia was raised in the game. She learned at an early age how to read people and how to be a master at disguises and blending in. Currently, she's shadowing Brendan in hopes of retrieving an item for her mentor. When their paths cross again at his sister's wedding, he can't stop the odd feeling of familiarity that keeps creeping in.

This book is a long-ish novella and a good stand-alone story. Brendan is the only boy of six kids. He comes from a very wealthy family. Sophia does not know who she really is or even her birth date. Her mentor raised her to play the con game. It's an odd, unique pairing and they are well-written. The dialogue and interaction is believable and the chemistry is pretty good. The plot is intriguing, it keeps you guessing and suspicious of everyone. It is not extremely predictable, has a nice conflict and resolution, and a solid ending. Overall, for being such a short read, it is a dynamic story with a full plot and multi-faceted characters.
