This is actually two books in one. The Target is the story of a Federal Judge who is on vacation in a cabin in the mountains when he hears someone in distress. He searches and finds a small child. She is frightened and hurt. He takes her in, only to find that someone is trying to kill her. There follows a harrowing ride involving the child's mother as well as FBI agents Sherlock and Savich who trace down the reason behind the girl's abduction.

The second story, "The Edge" involves a military man who is so attuned to his sister that he is present in her mind as she drives off a cliff thousands of miles away from his location. Again Sherlock and Savich join him in the search for the bad guys behind the reasons for her apparent attempt at suicide.

The biggest problem I have is do all of these books follow the same formula in that the friend of Sherlock and Savich falls in love with a suspect in whatever case they are currently involved in? I've only read one other FBI Thriller than these, so I'm just wondering.

I almost never hit a book that I have to put down and stop reading because it is so stupid. This book is the rare exception. The main character finds a child molest victim hiding in the hills, and cleans her up, effectively destroying evidence that would identify the molester, then KEEPS HER, instead of turning her in to authorities, or finding her parents. His reasoning is that the authorities might scare her. WHAT?? The stupidity continued after that until I just couldn’t take it any more. Just unreadable.

lack of realism and connectivity

Coulter starts off good with her stories. You get drawn in to the characters, about half way thru it becomes a pals with sex and/or unrealistic love story with lots of great sex. Then after slugging thru that lack of realism, it ends with a fantastical unrealistic action hero ending that somehow seems unrelated to what started as a decent beginning to the novel. And of course the lovers marry and are happy ever after. Hope I remember not to buy more of her novels.

Addictive read

I used to manage a bookstore and I tried to keep this series in stock (if not all of them, as many as possible). They did well. I finally got around to reading them and I can't get enough of them. Even though the ones I have read so far are pre-9/11, they are very relevant to today. They are fast moving and page turners. I recommend them. Even though you don't have to, she gives enough back story, I also recommend that you read them in order.

A double novel of 2 early books featuring Savich and Sherlock. The Target is about a child who was abducted, found by Judge Ramsey Hunt, who gets drawn into a complex situation with the child and her mother, who is the daughter of a famous crook. The Edge is about Ford MacDougal, another FBI agent who arrives in the small town of Edgewater after he learns his sister is in a coma. There is something secretive about the town which he gradually uncovers. Both were excellent reads.

The Target and The Edge

I love the FBI series. Whenever I want or need to read a well written book with wonderful characters, a great story full of suspense, great descriptions, and warm romance, I read or reread a book in this series. In this set The Target is great. I didn't enjoy The Edge as much due to the whole drug/sex thing. But this series is really entertaining.

Actually read The Target and The Edge before. Liked The Target a lot. Ramsey, a Federal judge, finds a little Six year old girl, Emma, in the woods. She had been kidnapped, beaten, and sexually abused. Ramsey takes care of her until her Mom finds them and then they hunt for the people who caused all the trouble and kidnapping. Good read.

Not the best

I really enjoy the Savich and Sherlock series. But these books? Eh. The first one took way too long to get going. I nearly gave up. The second was just too out there, and too much sex , drug induced or not.

Double Jeopardy by Peter Storey

The passengers boarded the plane and as Derrick Hall walked down the aisle to his seat he thought about previously meeting Sasha and Sharriff while having breakfast in the airport. They had talked about him working for them and made arrangements to have lunch the next day. Everything was going to be wonderful and he thought maybe he will get to know Shaffiff’s daughter better.

Derrick was watching through the window and saw they were close to landing in a few minutes. It was then he saw a bright flash and a light coming towards them. Unknown to the passengers, the plane was doomed to crash. The writer described the scenes more real than I had ever read or imagined. It felt as though I was in the plane and it took my breath away.

The story begins: It’s all about greed, espionage, money, murder, torture, hiding, searching, running across the world, sex and more sex, love, friendships, and lots more money.

I would recommend this book to be read at home where you would feel safe and not at an airport while waiting for your flight. Peter Storey has a vivid imagination and I hope he will continue to write exciting books.

Not my favorite writing style. Too many short sentences which start with pronouns and use repeat words on the same page—sometimes the same paragraph. Nonetheless, the plot was good, but it wasn’t developed dramatically. The significant events were told in a sentence or two and not shown. Most of the rest was everyday events with no drama. I’ve heard her speak and she’s very interesting so this must be the result of being an early work.
