A much better than average issue. The 3 novelettes especially were good.

When I was young I read from my parents Readers Digest magazines, I loved the randomness. I could read a true story of a bear attack on a desolate mountain ravine then turn a page and delve into a few pages of political intrigue. I was hooked. I've missed those days. Not sure why I did it, but I moved away from magazines and started 'chapter' books; I guess it was me trying to look like a grown up with a big hefty book in my hand, I was 10. My early days of full length novels eventually led me to a place where I've become overly picky about authors and genres. It started with adventure stories dealing with nature, especially westerns and Louis Lamour. I moved on to mystery and paranormal with authors Margaret Truman and Whitley Strieber, and dabbled a bit in autobiographies, didn't last long. I seemed to be reading a little of everything. I loved it. I don't remember my age when I happened upon a used paperback titled, The Shining; I quickly became a Stephen King fan. Then it was Michael Chricton's Andromeda Strain and Isaac Asimov's I Robot these authors seemed to improve my grades in science, too funny. Other genres came and went quickly but I always returned to horror and sci fiction. Still to this day unless it is a classic I will be scouting out book stores for those favorite genres. So, to put an end to this very self indulgent 'review' - I will finish by sharing a moment with you. Just recently while roaming a book store and drinking my iced tea I happened upon a magazine that was similar in size and thickness of my long lost Readers Digest. The cover was spectacular; I picked up the copy and quickly thumbed through to find that it contained short science fiction stories; I felt like it was compiled just for me. So I am back to reading some great quick reads even though I'm a half century old and as mature as I am going to get. This is a 5 star review because this magazine is filled with stories that are ALL worth reading, not just the one deserving of the cover. Good job Analog, you have a new fan.

I'm done. I didn't finish it, but I'm done. I've only liked two of the stories so far, and I have more than enough to read to keep going with something I'm not enjoying. It's probably just this issuej.
