Twelve Chosen Men Who Changed the World

This book was probably an outgrowth from Sunday School lessons for the great Forrest Hills Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia [don't know if it still exists] of which Hutson was the pastor. There are 13 chapters and 13 is usually considered a Sunday School Quarter. Not to say that isn't a good book- it is. But its not your typical Hutson book.
For the most part this is exactly what you would expect from Hutson. Solid, sensible and scriptural with the possible exception of two issues. One minor and one more than that.
The minor issue is the identification of James the Less [Chapter 12] with James the half-brother of Jesus and the author of the book of James. He gives some verses that could be interpreted that way but could be interpreted differently. He ignores the verses in John 7:1-5 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for: he would not walk in Jewry, because, the Jews sought to kill him. Now the Jews feast of tabernacles was at hand. His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly . If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. For neither did his brethren believe in him.
The more major issue is the statement, "THE BIBLE SEEMS TO INDICATE THAT JUDAS WAS THE DEVIL INCARNATE AS JESUS WAS GOD INCARNATE." This is wrong on so many levels I can barely believe Hutson wrote it and that the Sword published it. Just as a person may be possessed by other fallen angels it is possible that Judas was personally possessed by Lucifer but Satan incarnate? No. The incarnation of Christ was prophesied, fulfilled by all 3 members of the Trinity through a virgin-birth, a virtuous life, a vicarious death and a victorious resurrection.
There is not hint of anything other than a "simple" possession in the case of Judas. [Luke 22:3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.] This would be the same night he betrayed Jesus. Not a lifetime like the incarnation of Christ.

Not your typical book but rather a series of outline studies on the twelve apostles. Helpful, useful and readable. Laymen, teachers and preachers alike can derive much help from these outlines. The only real point of difference I had with the author was he believed James the Less was the half-brother of Jesus and to me, and others, the biblical evidence is more against that view than for it. A minor point of disagreement in an otherwise agreeable book.
