A lonely soup maker's bargain with a cursed blood fae for a magical pup opens the door to love, soup, and a chance something special in the midst of loss.

Erryn lets everyone believe she lost her memory years ago through a deal gone wrong with the fae, but that’s because the truth is too painful to speak about. She lost everything. Her home. Her family. She took all of them for granted, then struck a bargain that left her with nothing. The last deal she made with a fae revealed there was nothing special about her. But she might reconsider to save this pup.

Ryul lost his whole family in a devastating battle against an ancient enemy and is cursed to never walk the land when daylight touches it. His magic limited and distorted from the fight, he accidentally creates an apparition that turns into an ugly little dog. If he doesn't get it back, his magic will be depleted.

Now this wretched human wants to keep the apparition, and her love is already turning it into a real dog. She swears she can make soup that will replenish his magic if he'll just let her keep the dog. Though he knows he shouldn't, he makes the trade. He even offers her another deal in the event she falls in love with him (which she swears she will never do).

He doesn't make this trade because he likes her. Or because he's lonely. It's just…well, there's a good reason in there somewhere. He needs time to figure out his next step and making sure this strange, sassy, stubborn human doesn't poison him seems as good a diversion as any.

Or is he about to lose his heart as well as the plan?

Bound By Blood is the second book in the Starry Kingdoms of the Fae Collection. These books are all standalones written by your favorite fantasy authors and are the perfect read for your summer vacation. Prepare to be swept away into magical worlds with tropes you obsess over and swoon-worthy romance.

This is one of eleven novellas in The Starry Kingdoms of the Fae series written by different indie authors. They are all stand alones and can be read in any order.
You need to know that this is a novella. It is meant to be a short story where the pace is fast and there isn’t a lot of in depth description of characters and world building. Yes, there will be unanswered questions and plot holes to get you to read other books by the author. I personally love novellas because they give you a taste of the author’s writing style and you can read them in one to two sittings.

This one is a cozy fantasy fae romance. When I first saw the word “cozy”, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was actually a little refreshing. Compared to the dark fantasy I normally read, this one was light and cute.

Synopsis:
A human soup maker meets a blood fae. Against her better judgement she begins to fall in love with him.

I’m so used to dark romantasy books, I kept expecting some sinister plot twist and some evil characters. It was quite nice to read a sweet HEA novella that makes you want a bowl of soup after (IYKYK). The characters are going to be in a future series of hers that I will definitely read. I have Slaying the Naga King on the top of my TBR!
Thank you Jessica for the ARC! 🍲🐶

This was a cute, cozy, quick read and I loved the characters and the storyline. Erryn and Ryul had such a sweet connection and I enjoyed the way the author was able to world build in a way that wasn’t overwhelming. Buttons was my favorite character, obviously. Excited to read the other 3 “Bound by” books I have in my collection.

This is a cute cosy romance fantasy novella. For the length it is, It felt quite well developed although slightly info dumpy.

The romance between a human soup maker and blood fae looking to restore his blood magic.

Erryn, the fmc, makes a trade with him, she's help him replenish his magic through making him soup every night as long as he promises to let her keep the little pug with wings he had accidentally made.

It was cute and wholesome for what it was, nothing epic but still adorable.

Cozy fantasy that gave me the warm and fuzzy feels the whole time reading it. Shows love triumphs and there is nothing a bowl of good soup can’t cure.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story after reading the synopsis and it was surprisingly exactly the story I needed right now. It lives up to its cozy description. Slow burn, little angst and adorable with great world building. It had just enough to keep me interested and I liked the characters. I had never read anything by this author and she did a great job explaining how things worked in this world.

Sweet & Cozy

This was a clean, cozy romance that gave such cottagecore vibes. I wasn’t as sold on the plot as I wanted to be but being for what it was, it was sweet.

“If someone tells you that they love you, they are giving you a great gift.”

Based on the title alone I was not expecting to get swept away by a cozy fantasy romance! But now all I want to do is eat soup, own a cute little puppy (who is also part dragon), and meet a grumpy fae male who turns out to be a cinnamon roll sweetheart with a great sense of humor. He falls first in this reverse age-gap story where he basically dares her not to fall in love with him. This book made me laugh, cry, and swoon several times!

Amazing world-building in such a tiny and intimate space, as we spend most of the story in the soup cottage with Erryn, the female main character. The story is told from her point of view, which was different for me as I tend to read a lot of books with dual POVs. She is lonely, suffering from heartache, and has given up on love when she rescues a dog/dragon creature and meets Ryul, the mysterious blood fae, who ends up turning her life upside down. But this story isn’t all fluff – there’s an underlying dark tension that feels like you are always on the edge of a storm or just waiting for the other shoe to drop. And the MC’s each have a past and obstacles to overcome before they can be together. In the end, there is a HEA and it’s just delicious. I dare you to read this and not want to make soup!

I received a free advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I wanted to like this so much more than I did. The magical pup was the highlight for me the rest was just a bit bland. We don’t get a whole lot of back story on the characters until over the halfway mark so it was hard to feel invested in them at all.

They also felt quite immature for the age range they were supposed to be and the life experiences they had. Aside from their relationship nothing else is ever resolved.

I would give this a 2.5 maybe…it’s a cozy fantasy and my first time reading that genre so there was potential in the book concepts but it felt like it was lacking. It was a decent book to read from Amazon stuff your kindle day and to have a different genre option when reading other books.

DNF @ pg. 41/20%

I really want to read this because the premise is cute, but like...40 pages in and I'm REALLY struggling to keep going.

The dialogue is atrocious. The whole scene with Erryn "catching" Ryul and then all of her dialogue that should have been narration, where she's explaining to him (like four times over) that she doesn't want to leave him to be eaten but she's gonna do this and then this instead and then that and then this, all while sitting on the man. Like lord, why is this DIALOGUEEEEE. She also "gazed up at the sky" like 15 times in said interaction. She also asks him several times why he needs the dog/apparition back and he tells her at least three times, and she keeps asking.

I’ve rated this one star because it was a DNF for me.

I desperately wanted to like this, but it fell a bit short.

It felt very young adult, with very little happening. Everything was very drawn out and a lot of ‘filler’ material was thrown in. It just felt stagnant and I couldn’t get further than halfway through before throwing in the towel.

Parts of the writing (in my opinion) were under developed, and lots of phrases were reused too repetitively for me.
I personally wouldn’t recommend this, but by all means, give this one a go, and make up your own mind.

Why’d she randomly call the dog a slur mid way through the book 🤨

Also included unnatural dialogue such as wanting to be “the most best of all”

Erryn was such a sweet character. I loved her for having witty remarks and how strong she was and also humble because of past experiences and her expertise when comes to soup, O.M.G. I was hungry non-stop when I was reading her cooking.
Ryul was so sweet even from the very beginning, I never felt him being dangerous or anything, on the contrary I felt him safe and friendly, even tho he was a tad mysterious - eventually you get to know his pov and learn more about him.

⮞ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝-𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 ⮜
The world-building wasn't the main point in the story but you do get information about Ryul's place which was very magical like out of a fairytale and loved how the castle had a conscience of its own and you could talk with it and ask questions and was also judgy lol.

⮞ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝/𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 ⮜
I loved how the story made me feel. From the very beginning, the way things were explained made me feel the summer heat, the smell of the soup the feelings Erryn was feeling you could feel them, and the whole story felt so real it transported you into their world and I loved that. I enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers trope, it was made to be really funny and with a bit of Tangled vibes in it too, just between Human and the Fae which was even more comical because he could've taken Erryn over in a blink of an eye. I've also enjoyed the quick talk about the race, even tho they were humans, fae and etc I loved Erryn's stance on the race that none should be judged just because they're something they can't change such as Blood Fae in this case. The age gap even tho was minor, was an interesting touch especially since Erryn was older than Ryul. The soups scenes made my mouth water, they were so delicious almost you could taste them. Another thing I've loved was the way they were talking about love and their idea of what love exactly was, and what a great power it had over someone. And of course, Ryul and Erryn together were two crazy dog lovers who loved Buttons so, so much, they were very adorable talking about the dog.

⮞ 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞/TW ⮜
The romance in the book is fade to black, there is a bit of sexual tension and some kisses but nothing explicit or on page.

This was definitely a cozy read. I was shockingly surprised by how much I liked it. I've never read anything that could be classified as cozy before. It was a nice change of pace from constant action and adventure. I wish there was a small pronunciation guide for this. I would especially love to know what Erryn's favorite "curse" word, polph means.

Erryn is every woman ever with her instant love of a magical hybrid dog that is so ugly its cute. That love leads her into helping the sweet baby and making a bargain...sorry trade with a fae in order to keep him. Not just any fae, a blood fae. The majority of the book is spend within the confines of Erryn's cottage where she fulfills her end of the deal by making the fae male she made a deal with soup.

The magic system and species of fae mentioned were interesting and unique! I only wish there had been time/space for the author to expand on them more.

And while this was a cozy romance it wasn't without its risks. There was a moment in the book that Ryul warned Erryn not to fall in love with him. Not out of arrogance but rather a genuine warning. If one were to fall in love with a blood fae and speak the words the "I love you" the consequences can be well...bloody. Erryn finds herself struggling with her growing feelings for Ryul after he's proved himself to be not quite what she expected for a blood fae.

I loved their enemies to friends to lovers journey. Ladies we have another winged book boyfriend to add to the roster!

This book was advertised as a cute, cozy mystery romance. I typically don't read mysteries, they are not my favorite genre. Bound By Blood has very little mystery content, if that is what you're looking for. The mystery is pretty much just .

Eryyn is...okay. I was fine with her for most of the book, though she continually spoke bad about herself, trying to reiterate the fact that she is some horrible, awful, no good, very bad person....spoiler alert.....she's not. The past event that she thinks has made her into this awful person is not...that...bad. It's very....I dunno....young-child-who-doesn't-know-better-but-also-thinks-they-know-everything-messes-up and-blames-themselves-for-the-rest-of-their-life-even-though-there-is-no-confirmation-that-they-truly-hurt-the-people-they-thought-they-hurt. Ryul is young and naive, even though he's a super powerful fae. He's sweet. Actually, this romance between the two is very sweet. If you're looking for something a little more spicy, this isn't the book for you.

The author writes pretty decently, I didn't notice any errors or continuity things. The worldbuilding was just okay. It's definitely apparent this book is taken from a larger series. There's a lot that I wish was expanded upon in this book, such as the BBEG that was mentioned (literally just mentioned....there's like no information on him except his name and the way he was "taken care of"), the multiple races that populate the land, and what I think was most important, the missing creatures???? Where did they go??? What happened???? Never touched on.

All in all, just a mid-tier read. I wouldn't buy it, but I didn't mind reading it either.

FANTASY, ANGSTY, TWISTS&TURNS, CUTE!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5🌶️0/5

LOVE this cute fantasy story! Although it has no spice in it the storyline was amazing! Definitely needed a good fantasy read and I found it within these pages! The ONLY downside to this book is that it ended, I hope there is more coming! Erryn is a good working woman that makes a living making& selling delicious soup to travelers. She is lonely and is down on luck since loosing her family to a bargain gone wrong. Ryul is a young blood Fae who’s also suffered enough from battle and being torn apart from his family and loosing his magic. In trying to find a way to find his family he ends up crossing paths with Erryn, they have a rough meeting which ends in a mutual agreement in trade. Erryn will help Ryul regain his magic in exchange for soup, so Erryn can keep a “special dog” that was created by Ryul.

Bonding with a blood Fae has a big price, one that can cost your life. Read this story to find out if Erryn falls for the blood Fae and is forever bound to him. I really recommend this story! Enjoy the twists and turns throughout the journey!

This is novel 2 of The Starry Kingdoms of the Fae series.

This book really had ready in the couch in one setting with a cup of soup (if you know you know).

A cozy fantasy fae romance.

We meet Erryn, Ryul and Buttons. Erryn is human while Ryul is a blood fae, not to forget Buttons a dog ish dragon.

Erryn as well as Ryul have both unique personalities that stems from child trauma's.

At the begin of the book I was quite confused with some of the parts that happens at weird times in the book, but that gets explained later in the book.

Erryn is a soup cook that in works for her grandmother in a cabin selling soup.

When a poor dog stumbles in.

Not wanting to give up the dog she makes a trade with a blood fae in exchange for a couple of months of soup.

From there on we really get to know what happened to Erryn and Ryul.

This book contains he falls first, some wishing, being lonely, hoping for a family, she is older, he falls first, adorable dog.

All books are standalones and can be read in any order.

I loved this one. It’s a super cute cozy story. There’s humans and Fae and other creatures in this story. Erryn lives in a cottage. She makes soup for her costumers. She is there temporarily. One night she hears some commotion outside. She doesn’t want to go outside. Her house is warded against things with intent to harm. She goes outside and sees a weird looking dog. She decides she’s going to keep this dog. Then out comes a blood Fae. Ryul wants the dog back. He tells her it’s not really a dog. Erryn doesn’t believe him. After a tussle Erryn and Ryul come to an agreement. She keeps the dog and she’s to help Ryul try and get his magic back. There’s a rule about the blood Fae. You are not to fall in love with one. If you do then it’s at your own risk. A wish could go oh so wrong for you. Erryn makes soup every night for Ryul. They get to know each other. They both start to fall in love. Erryn has promised herself she will not make a bargain with the Fae every again. But it’s getting harder and harder not to tell Ryul she loves him. They share with each other what happened to their families. They bond over being lonely. Will Erryn tell Ryul she loved him? Will she run away like she usually does? Read Erryn and Ryul's story to find out what becomes of them.

This story was so full of everything. The plot is incredible and the story was so cute! There banter and humor, new friends and sad stories but best of all was the adventure and sweet moments between Ryul and Erryn. Ryul is a blood fae who’s lost his family and is desperately wanting to be reconnected with them. One sure fire way of that happening is wishing for it. But this wish only happens under one circumstance and now he has a new wish he wants just as badly or More. And that’s Erryn. Erryn is a human woman who has lived with a secret from her past and she blames herself for this tragedy. So she’s living a life of solitude in the wilds and the only company she ever has is the travelers that stop in to eat the wonderful soups she makes in her soup cottage. Until one night she hears something go bump in the night and she comes across a creature so ugly it’s cute and she falls in love. Maybe twice? This book is a must read so you can watch the hilarity unfold and a cozy love bloom. Will Erryn and Ryul get the things they desire most?

Bound by Blood is the second novella in the Starry Kingdoms of the Fae. In this novella, we meet Erryn, a soup maker who lives a lonely life. One night, a commotion outside draws her attention, causing her to open her door. That’s when she sees Button, a creature that looked like a puppy dog with wings. Chasing him is blood elf, Ryul, who was attempting to create something akin to an attack dog with his blood elf magic. When Erryn refuses to give Buttons back to Ryul, they strike a deal. She makes him soup to help him build his magic back up in exchange for Buttons. But Ryul’s one rule is that Erryn must promise to NOT fall in love with him.

This novella was super cute. I absolutely ADORED seeing Erryn worth through her past and find friendship in Ryul and Buttons. Seeing the relationship blossom between Ryul and Erryn was super sweet and I’d put it between insta-love and slow burn. It was like smack in between. I also loved Quinn, Ryul’s sassy house. So if you like stories with food that feeds the soul, cute puppies, and a HEA, then this is the story for you!

Super cute and cozy read. It’s a clean read with a who will say it first storyline. I got hints of Rapunzel (which the author mentioned at the end.) It starts out a little bit Grumpy Sunshine and then the MMC becomes a total cinnamon roll. He’s respectful and consent is very important. Some aspects of the story could have been fleshed out a little more but overall it was a very enjoyable read and well written. I found 1 character to be slightly distracting because I never knew what to expect from them but then they just kind of petered out. So they felt a little… useless. It has an adorable “dog” character, a cast iron pan as a weapon, will they/won’t they, curses & bargains, she’s older, he’s a “baby” fae. I would definitely read more about these characters but would love to read a more PG-13 + aspect. A quick, sweet, and clean read.

I received an ARC copy of Jessica M. Butler's book. It is the second book in the Starry Kingdoms of the Fae series. The pace of this book was slower than the first but it allowed you, as the reader, to really understand the character's thought processes and emotions. I thought this fairytale retelling was so cute and it had me laughing throughout the story. I loved the banter between the two main character's. I also loved the way their relationship molded and grew over time. There was mysterious and mischievous side character's that made you question the intent of the two main ones. Butler really formed this world and kept me as a reader in anticipation. I was scared and excited to find out how this was going to end. I was not disappointed. It was such a great read.

This was a wonderful, cozy fantasy to read.
Erryn is a human soup maker who happens to have a run-in with a blood fae named Ryul because the magical dog he created from his magic one night ran away from him. Erryn fell in love with him and wanted to keep him, even though it had red eyes and wings. So she makes a trade with the blood Fae even though she has had bad luck before with another Fae. She will make soup for him every night until his magic builds up, and she gets to keep the dog whom she named Buttons. As time goes on, Erryn and Ryul start to trust each other and become friends and eventually more. I highly recommend reading Erryn and Ryul's story.
Thank you, Jessica, for letting me be a part of your ARC team.

Bound By Blood by Jessica M Butler is the second book in the Starry Kingdoms of the Fae Collection. These books are all standalones and this one is a Cozy Fantasy Romance with Hearty Soup, An Ugly Pup, a Cursed Blood Fae, and a Lonely Human. It’s a clean romance which I throughly enjoyed reading. This read is full of heart and humor, that I consumed cover to cover.

This is the story of a human named Erryn and a blood Fae, Ryul. This is such a sweet read that’s full of humor and a beautiful romance of two emotionally scarred people coming together. I love a good short page turning fantasy romance and that’s exactly what this is! I can’t rommend it enough.

I loved this book. It made my laugh and swoon. I wish I could live in a little cottage just making soup for a blood Fae to keep a dog like creature as a pet.

The world building in a small area was wonderful and gave off the coziness of this book. The “dangerous” blood Fae, Ryul, is such a sweet cinnamon roll with a great sense of humor. It was entirely enjoyable to watch him fall first for Erryn.

I highly recommend reading this and can’t wait to read other books by Jessica! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A cozy read with lots of soup. Dealing in Faerie magic can be difficult, especially with a blood fae. Falling in love with one can have dire consequences. But Erryn has learned over a short time with Ryul that not all things bad can come from loving a blood fae. Ryul has figured out that loving Erryn is all that he needs to be happy in his life.
