Ed is a virgin. I didn’t know those existed – not at our age anyway. Maybe he was so drunk that he forgot all the times he’s had sex. I wish I could get that drunk.
Mia and Ed have been best friends ever since they began teaching at the same school. Ed bakes cake for the staff, Mia eats the cakes. Ed can’t control his students, Mia sorts them out. Mia can’t work the photocopier, Ed shows her how.
Mia’s love life might be chaotic but she’s totally devoted to her super-tidy, cat-owning, geeky but not bad-looking best friend. So, when Mia discovers Ed is still a virgin at twenty-eight, she decides to take matters into her own hands and teach him the skills he needs to seduce the pretty new maths teacher, Caitlin.
It’s an education that involves panic-buying sex toys and buddy-watching porn, and when Ed graduates with an A+ for effort – and begins dating the perfect-on-paper Caitlin – Mia knows her work is done.
But is Caitlin as sweet as she seems? And could Mia’s feelings for Ed be stronger than she realised?
I laughed so much reading sex ed. It was hilarious and both Mia and Ed were lovely characters. I’m not sure I’ve come across someone so quirky, carefree and warm as Mia. Anyone having her as a teacher would be very lucky indeed.
Mia & Ed work together as teachers and are best friends. When Mia learns that 28 year old Ed is still a virgin, she decides she's the best person to show him whats what, and in a pretty clinical manner.
I haven't come across too many plots where the male is the virgin, and at 28 at that, so that made this one seem fresh in that sense. He just didn't have a clue about anything. He was a really sweet guy, though.
I enjoyed Mia's wittiness and feisty ways. She's a great instructor, too.
This was definitely a hoot at times. Didn't like the other woman drama with Caitlin and the 3rd act crap was just that, crap ~ hated it. But overall, I had a fun time, but I just wish I read it, more on that next.
Narration notes: For the love of Pete, why was there only 1 narrator for dual 1st? Especially when one is male and the other is female! Harrie didn't alter her voice really, and even though each chapter was titled with the name it still took me a minute to figure out who was talking. I don't like having to take a minute. Definitely recommend reading, not listening, unless that's not something that would bother you like it did me.
*Thanks to the author, Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*
Note about safety… hero has sex with the OW, after learning to have sex from the heroine. Only breaks it off with OW because he finds out she was cheating on him, not because of any feelings towards the heroine.

Kristen Bailey is one of the funniest people I know. Her books always have me in stitches and, after the Callaghan Sister series and an outstanding stand-alone titled Great Sexpectations (notice a theme there? 😜), she’s back with Sex Ed, another incredible rom-com full of laughs, lovely characters and a bit of sex (well, lots of sex. Clue is in the title! 😂).
Ed and Mia are work colleagues and best friends. When a new teacher arrives at their school, Ed shows some interest in her but, when after a drunk night out he confesses to Mia he’s still a virgin at 28, she offers to teach him everything she knows about sex so he can seduce her. Little they know the whole process will awake some unexpected feelings in them.
First of all. That title! Could it be any better? Such a great pun! You know I love a good double entendre! I made the mistake of starting this one on the bus and just a few pages in I was laughing so hard people were staring at me weird. How to explain them that it was all about a little accidente between a willy and a fan? 😅 The prologue was sooo good. The fear and awkwardness of those first times was perfectly portrayed. Also, after reading so many of her books, I feel I have a Masters Degree in genitalia synonyms! (I’m always up for expanding my vocabulary ☺️).
Ed and Mia are complete opposites. Ed is geeky, awkward, sweet and inexperienced. Mia is outgoing, fearless, messy and sexually unabashed. They are like water and oil, but yet make such a great combo. I liked them separately, but loved them together. They had incredible chemistry and you’ll fall in love with them in a matter of pages. I loved how they brought out the good in each other while growing as individuals.
If you’ve previously read some of her books, you know that Kristen is not afraid to speak openly about sex, and I adore that. She does it in a very natural, positive and unapologetic way that I think is really necessary to have in fiction. The sex scenes here were playful, funny and, sometimes, a bit awkward (but good awkward, not cringy awkward), as they are in real life.
I also loved how neither character was judged or ashamed for their sexuality or lack of. Both of them felt so real, with the good and the bad, what made them really relatable and people you would love to have as friends.
The whole cast of characters was incredible. They were charming and endearing, and the banter between them was out of this world. I was surprised by some appearances from old friends that made me squeal a little bit. 😍
One of the greatest things about Kristen’s work is that she always infuses her stories and characters with lots of heart so, even though initially this may sound like something not for you (lots of people seem to be afraid about sex talk yet), if you give it a chance you’ll discover a heartwarming and hilarious story you won’t want to end.
Incredibly charming friends to lovers (well, in fairness I guess it is a friends to teacher/student to lovers story) with the perfect mix of spicy, steam, sweet and fun, that will have you laughing your a** off. Her books are the perfect antidote for when you’re feeling down so please, Kristen, never stop writing!
Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Books for providing and eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I feel I should issue a warning to anyone considering reading this book. Do not, I repeat do not do it while drinking a hot beverage or in a public place. Snorting tea out of your nose is not pretty and can lead to choking and spluttering and the possibility of an emergency service call out. You have been warned.
I did wonder if this was aimed at my demographic (I’m many, many years young) when I first started reading and it was a teenage Mia possibly about to lose her virginity. But unless you are the rarer than a unicorn still a virgin like Ed then we have all been there and we all have ‘that story’.
Then came Ed at uni and the scene that did me in. I was reading at home but that still didn’t stop my teenage daughter throwing me weird looks and asking what I was laughing at. Well Izzy it involves a fan just like the very one you have at your uni digs and I will never be able to look at without chuckling and thinking of poor Ed.
After a few chapters Mia and Ed are now both teachers at the same school and best friends. They aren’t just chalk and cheese they are more a rare steak to a vegan salad. But they are both extremely likeable and after all a salad pairs great with steak.
After a night at the pub welcoming the cute new teacher, a few too many tequilas and dodgy chicken, Ed is nursing a hangover and while slumped over the toilet confesses to Mia that he is still a virgin.
While certain things were obvious to me as a reader, Mia bless her heart was a bit slow on the uptake. But as the fun and games began I was hoping she would soon catch up.
This is embarrassing, cringingly so at times but so so funny. I have come to the conclusion that I may be getting older but my sense of humour is still one of childish delight. This girl doesn’t mind admitting that she likes a good knob gag and you can take that whichever way you like.
Sex Ed by Kristen Bailey is about Ed, a 28-year-old virgin who accidentally admits to his best friend Mia that of this fact. Mia, who is experienced and very sex positive, offers to give Ed his first sexual experience and teach him how to win the heart of his work crush.
This was my first Kristen Bailey book and I found the conversations between characters to be witty, charming, and funny. The situations they found themselves in were quite comical, if not entirely unbelievable, and Bailey did a great job with the characterizations for her two leads. The villain side characters could be a little bit of a caricature, but not too much so as to be distracting.
I personally could not see Ed and Mia as a couple and saw them better as friends. Something about their romantic relationship did not jive with me the same was their friendship did. I did like how supportive Mia was of Ed and nonjudgmental she was of his virginal status, and likewise for Ed in terms of Mia's sexual history as well as history in terms of long term relationships. Overall, they both gave each other what they needed for a healthy friendship, but the chemistry was not there for me as a romantic couple.
The sex scenes were hard to read. Most of the times they were downright clinical in terms of descriptions and often times rushed through. I could hardly get in the mood by the time the sexual encounter was over, if I had been able to at all based on the writing of the sex scenes. The lack of foreplay in most of the scenes is rather appalling if this is to be considered a romance. Virgin or not, Ed should understand that kissing and pawing is necessary. Instead for his first time he assesses her vulva like it's a cut of meat at the deli he is considering purchasing, and she rubs herself while he struggles to put on a condom. The sex in this book is seriously some of the worst I have ever read, I'm hoping her next novel has an editor to set her up for success in that department.
The narration was good, if a bit slow; I played the novel at 2x speed. She had a pleasant voice, but didn't change her voice much at all between characters. I had to pay keen attention at chapter beginnings to figure out whose POV I was in as she didn't change her voice at all between parts. I would listen to another book voiced by this narrator.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Storm Publishing for an advanced reader copy of this audiobook for an honest review.
I needed a laugh-out loud book and Sex Ed came highly recommended, plus it’s currently FREE on Kindle Unlimited so it’s a win/win situation for me.
Firstly trigger warning: this book contains some absolutely hysterical moments that if you are in public may have your howling or snorting very loudly.
Sex Ed is the story of 28 year old biology teacher Ed. Despite being a wonderful baker, teacher, friend and an expert at working the school photocopier he is still very much a virgin. This may be thanks to an unfortunate but hysterical accident with an oscillating fan and a condom when he was at University, but nevertheless women have always alluded Ed and he’s reluctantly accepted he will probably never find love (or sex).
Mia is Ed’s best friend. They work together at school and she’s an English Literature teacher. She is the polar opposite of Ed. She’s a party girl, fluent in the language of sex and lives a rather hectic life lurching from one hook-up to the next.
On a drunken night out Ed accidentally reveals his secret to Mia who decides that it is her responsibility to educate Ed and teach him everything she knows about sex. Cue some very funny, cringy and outrageous situations including a butt-plug on the neighbours fire escape.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sex Ed and loved reading the story from both Mia and Ed’s point of view in the alternating chapters. I would definitely recommend it to those who need a good laugh but aren’t easily offended!
Can someone explain to me how Kristen always manages to write such hilarious books?! Every single one of them has had me in stitches, and I expected no less from this one, and boy was this one possibly my favourite (which I didn’t think was possible after Great Sexpectations last year). Ed is such a sweet little muffin while Mia is an absolute laugh riot.
Between the moments of sweet friendship and steamy romance we have a cast of characters that are just trying to navigate their lives and grow as individuals. All of the characters were related and very realistic, and quite honestly I’d love to be friends with Mia.
If you’re a lover of sex positive romcoms that will make you laugh so hard you cry, and have characters that are as relatable as they are flawed, then you’ll love Kristen’s books.
Thank you to Kristen for sending me an ebook of this one and having me on the blog tour.
I really enjoyed this book!! This was my first Kristen Bailey book, and I loved the character development throughout it, as well as the humour. The characters were easy to get attached to as well.
i haven’t laughed this hard while reading a book in so long. this felt so heartwarming and beautiful, how the friendships kept building up slowly to form thief feelings and how so naturally mia helped ed with no shame or making him feel bad about it, i love that she showed herself a little more rough on the outside but was so smush and emphatic in the inside, those people are the best people in my opinion. the love part was so cute, i’m normally not a fan of friends to lovers but i’m this case it was so perfectly done that it just felt so natura how everything flowed. the banter and jokes were the best part, it was so so fun. this is such a good read, loving and funny and so fast to read, i absolutely loved it.
thank you netgalley for proving me and arc in exchange of an honest review.
This was so much fun! The concept, execution and characters were all fabulous. The banter, weird/awkward/realistic moments, and slight drama made this unputdownable. I'm so excited that Bailey has a back catalogue for me to enjoy! Much love to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media & Storm Publishing for my audio.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this quirky book
ed and mia are work colleagues, they both started working at the same school together on the same day, they are united teachers together
mia is outgoing and friendly and parties hard.... she has many sexual partners and adventures as she can ed is quieter and still looking
but most of all these two are the best of friends but one of them has a very deep secret
so when new teacher caitlin starts at their school they all go out to welcome her and it gets very messy with shots... and thats where ed gets very drunk and lets out his big secret.... hes never slept with anyone...not from want of trying
and so begins the funniest book i have ever read... mia with all her experience decides to help out her best friend and ed being in need takes this opportunity so that he can have caitlin as his girlfriend without it being a disaster
theres a lot more to this story and i have to say i surprises myself with how much i laughed out loud and thought what else can happen but this author kept everything moving along with plenty of laughs and oh mys along the way
and i think i have found another author to keep an eye out for
Parts of this book were so good but parts were so frustrating. I really really hated her family there until the end. I’m glad that Ed got to see the truth but he did seem super naive when he believed that chick in the first place. I think one of my favorite parts was honestly the relationship between Ed and his mom- so cute!!
🌀Synopsis Mia and Ed are such good friends. They teach together and balance each other out. In a lot of ways they are opposites. Including in their sex life! Ed is a virgin while Mia’s history is pretty chaotic. When Mia finds out about Ed she’s determined to help him. He has his sights set on one of the new teachers and Mia knows she can get them together. In the process, Mia realizes she develops some feelings for Ed but she squishes them down so they can stay friends. She keeps working to get him hooked up with the new teacher until she finds out she’s also seeing another guy in addition to Ed. When Mia tries to tell Ed everything falls apart. Now her job is at risk, her friendship with Ed is at a rock bottom, and Mia is just trying to keep putting one foot in front of the other. It doesn’t take long for Ed to find out the truth about the teacher and about Mia though. This truth helps them both see just what they were missing.
Free-spirited, sex-positive chick wants to help her tightly-wound virgin friend, Ed (get it!?), get laid. Yes, I read it based on the premise alone. And the fact that it was brought to me by NetGalley.
It was a bit clinical in parts but pretty good, not great. I found it amusing AF. Funny and British and Britishly funny. The com worked, the rom didn’t. I totally bought the couple as friends but didn’t really feel anything romantic between them.
This was a fun, easy read. Nothing I will think much about but still good to pass some time while cleaning. I choose to read it because of the trope that the guy is inexperienced/a virgin. Traditionally it's always the woman who has less sexual experience so I thought that it was really refreshing seeing a book where that was not the case.
I’m absolutely gutted that I didn’t love this one! Whilst I did find some of the one liners and scenes quite funny, overall I found it really boring and lacking any real plot. I picked it for book club and I think it just reinforced the fact that I’m not really a rom com girlie. Average book club rating was 3.4⭐️
Why didn’t I pick this up sooner? This is the first book I’ve read from Kristin Bailey and OMG I absolutely loved it! A laugh out loud, comedy Romance, perfect for anyone who loves Romance, especially friends to lovers. Some of the ‘teaching Ed’ scenes made me laugh so hard! I loved Ed & Mia’s friendship and to watch it grow and evolve was something special. A funny, hard to put down Rom Com, I definitely recommend! I’m off to search through Kristen’s backlist now, see if I can find any more gems! (Gifted arc from Netgalley)
Absolutely brilliant. Funny, believable, and filled with lovable characters. Even the miscommunications made sense - they weren’t just there for drama, but felt true to the characters and their age. And best of all? The relationship was healthy. It’s rare to come across a romance like this these days. If more were written like this, I think I could fall in love with the genre all over again.
I quite liked this one. It was cute, funny, sexy and I really enjoyed the premise and the banter. Looking forward to seeing more of what this author has in store!
Mia and Ed are best buddies, working at the same school as teachers. When she finds out that Ed is a virgin, she decides to help him out, so that he can be more confident when he starts to fancy a new teacher at the school. But when they start sleeping together, what will that do to their friendship? Could there have been something more there all along?
Yes the most OBVIOUS tropes, of COURSE they are going to get together! But oh what fun it was to get there. Witty banter, some hilarious situations, and darn good writing. Loved it. This is the first book I have read from Kristen Bailey but it wont be the last!
This is my first time reading a book by Kristen Bailey and I can confidently say that I'll be exploring more of her work in the future. Throughout the story, I found myself laughing so hard during many scenes and the execution of the best friends falling in love trope was brilliant. Mia and Ed, were both endearing characters and the evolution of their friendship into something more felt organic. Additionally, the side characters added a lot of charm to the story, I particularly wish there was more of Donna's presence.
However, for a book that heavily focuses on sex, those scenes could've been done better, as they came across as somewhat unnatural. Also, I couldn't help but feel that the epilogue fell a bit short. Personally, I enjoy when romcom epilogues provide updates on all the characters, even if it's just a quick one-liner. Setting aside those minor points, the chosen location, workplace setting, and clever title all contribute to making it a fantastic romcom read.
I read this in one sitting. The MCs were funny, kind and relatable. I definitely laughed out loud at some points in the book and I rooted for them. I loved the family relationships and friendships in this book. It did seem a little silly how after being such good friends, the MCs made some bad choices in the ways they communicated with each other but I think they had both had bad luck with love so they might have just been protecting their hearts.
I am not a rom com girl, but I absolutely loved this book. It's hilarious, heart breaking and happy. I laughed so much and by the end I was tearing up.

My thoughts: 📱4% 24:43 Chapter 1 Present Day Mia - I should have previewed this one. The narrator is annoying, sorry, the Prologue is awkward and cringy and the male POV reads as if someone without a penis wrote it. I know, but how do you not know what you are working with when you have a penis, why would you practice putting condoms on a cucumber if you have a penis? 📌📌📌📌 📱12% 1:12:21 Chapter 3 Mia - Finally got back to this one but my husband's home so I'll put the pin in it again. It has gotten better but it's still on the chopping block. 📱70% 7:11:57 Chapter 17 Mia - It seems like every chapter starts with Mia and switches to Ed halfway through. This story has improved a lot but it comes off as quite juvenile for the age group of the characters. I'm going to switch books mostly so I can get some eyeball reading in before my husband gets back from the gym.
The narration wasn't definitive enough for me to know when Ed was talking, when they were talking it was fine, her voice was higher, but when he was monologuing he sounded like a girl and I had to remind myself who was talking. I had the same issue when they argued and Mia's voice got lower. Overall this story was okay. I didn't think the jokes were funny so it took a while for me to warm up to it. Both characters had no emotional value on sex or relationships so it was hard to take their match seriously.
Sexy lessons with opposites attract best friends where the guy is wonderfully starched and nerdy and a virgin and his chaotic best friend teaches him how to have sex and please a woman in order to win OW over??
Yes yes yes. Narration was great and it was included with Scribd/Everand

My thoughts: This was such a lovely but hilarious read. Mia was great fun. I loved how Ed and Mia were so very different, but how great their friendship was.
This was such an easy read- lighthearted where needed and then packed with humour. Another book from Kristen Bailey that I loved!
I am the odd [wo]man out on this one. I just do not get the rave reviews. Kristen Bailey's novel, "Sex Ed" (which is a play on words as the main male character is a 27 year old male virgin named Ed) was extremely off putting at times, and only got better in the last few chapters when the plot was more character and action driven. Would a really cute 27 year old guy really have no experience in life? He is a high school, science teacher, not a monk, nor was he sheltered from from the world for his nearly 3 decades of life. Ed and Mia, his best friend, work in the same high school. She is the other end of the spectrum, hooking up here, there, and everywhere over the years as she saw fit. When she learns of Ed's situation, she think she would be the best and safest person to teach Ed the ways of the flesh, and to demonstrate all he needs to know. He should feel safe, as they are such good friends. There are way too many pages of descriptive writing about anatomy and responses, and all the other things you are imagining right now. Of course, feelings often get in the way when things become physical and that complicates the plan for Ed and Mia. He falls for a new teacher in their school, Caitlin, who is a sly one. He is not wise enough in the world of romance to see through her until it is too late to avoid heartache for not just himself, but for Mia, as well. At that point, the novel got better, as it became less about teaching a grown man things most learn years earlier, and more about love, relationships, trust, and what we do for someone we love. The narrator of the audiobook did a good job, but I cannot imagine having her task with this book. I did love her British accent (the novel is set in England) and that the students called their teachers Sir or Miss, all very "To Sir With Love" in that way. The book was a quick one, and did have parts that were laugh out loud funny, but it was just too descriptive, far more than necessary, making it more like an anatomy and physiology textbook than a piece of light chick lit. Glad I finished it and know how it ends, but cannot say I would recommend it to anyone I know.
I do generally like a good RomCom as a palate cleanser in between the thrillers I read most often. This one had potential, but missed the mark.
The premise was great. Mia and Ed are teachers at the same school and are also best friends. Mia finds out Ed is still a virgin and offers to help teach him what he needs to know about sex because he is interested in the math teacher, Caitlin. This begins Ed’s sex lessons. Those scenes were awful. They were so cringy and awkward to read. I’m all for a good sex scene in a book. They can be descriptive and well done. But the scenes with lessons were terrible. It was so cringy it felt almost embarrassing to continue reading.
The rest of the book was good and I did like the author’s general writing style. I might give her another chance because this was the first book I read by her and I’m hoping her others are better. I didn’t hate the book overall, but the sex lesson scenes with Mia and Ed were just not well done.
Thank you to the author, Storm Publishing, and NetGalley for the advance reader copy. I am leaving my honest review. 3⭐️ Publication date July 4, 2023
This was my first Kristen Bailey book, and I must say I will be looking to read more. Overall the quirky/witty banter, the sweet and tender moments, sex-positive, and the genuine friendship between the two Main characters was amazing. I loved the growth in the side character relationships as well (maybe setting up for another book?).
There were moments in the book I felt there could be a little more information or depth to the moment/scene. The epilogue was nice, as the book seemed to end in a rush, however the mention of them being married came out of no where.
The narrator was good overall. I had to listen carefully - especially in early chapters - to know which POV I was in, however they did a great job throughout.
Favorite Quote from the book: "Sometimes you need to be watered to feel the sunshine of someone's words. To grow. To stand tall. To bloom."
