Book store owner and coffee slinger, Clark Thomas, finds himself involved in another murder investigation. This time in a double murder at the popular Tidal Creek Brew House in Myrtle Beach's Market Common.
What seems like an open and shut case for the police turns into something much larger when Clark discovers a secret scheme hatched by one victim.
In the middle of it all is a group of tight-knit women who live together in a Market Common apartment complex. Clark learns that these seemingly playful and innocent "Silver Girls" harbor secrets they want to keep hidden and it all relates to one victim.
Against the backdrop of a busy summer season in Myrtle Beach, Clark discovers links in the case involving the IRS, FBI, and the mafia.
Outside forces pressure Clark to uncover the killer before harm comes to those he loves. Along the way, he learns more about the person behind his wife's death. The revelation causes him to question everything.
Filled with Wygal's characteristic humor and fast, fun writing style, Death at Tidal Creek is a thrilling entry to the Myrtle Beach Mystery Series you don't want to miss.

Such a wonderful book. Caleb Wygal brings characters to life in his books. It is great fun to see the places he mentioned in his books. I am drawn into the mystery and find it hard to put the book down. Living in this area hits home for me. If you live here or just come to visit I know these Myrtle Beach mysteries will keep you turning the pages to find out more. Don’t take my word for it…. Get in on the Myrtle Beach Mysteries. You will not be disappointed.
The more I read of the series the more I get hooked.. I just can’t stop!! I love all the fun references to Myrtle Beach area. I’m absolutely HOOKED. I need to know what happened to Clark’s wife.. I have a bad feeling about the newest character we have been introduced to at the very end….. Lucian… he gives me bad vibes already.
OMG! So I mainly read Sci Fi/Fantasy... but I got into the Myrtle Beach Mysteries series... which is not Sci Fi. But yet again - I get to the end and I'm like ooooh! I wasn't expecting that! And what's going to happen next. And like no he didn't...
I'm still not sure the similarities between the genres, but I may have to broaden my horizons. Who knows, I may even venture into Non-fiction.
Have enjoyed this series, but not sure why this one just didn't excite me like the others. Would like to see some movement on Autumn's story, that's just been dangling over each book and I got in thinking we will find more out.
This was the fifth book of the Myrtle Beach Mysteries (that I was fortunate enough to get in on the ground floor with this series) that I received from the author in return for an honest and fair review.
This novel is what I consider to be almost an homage to the amateur sleuth stories (I believe that in the review for the first book I used the metaphor of "Murder She Wrote" as the main character is not only a bookstore owner but also a ghostwriter for an author of some renown) as the main character utilizes "skills" that have been developed by being a mystery aficionado (reader of many mystery books).
This story reads very well and comes at the murder from the viewpoint of a non-professional (although he makes several references to the fact that he was able to solve a number of murders over the first four books of the series). I use the metaphor of "Murder She Wrote" as there is no reference to the ability or effort of the police but the amateur manages to solve the crime in a matter of days.
A pair of deaths occur in Myrtle Beach and "civilian detective" Clark Thomas is on the case. One of the victims is deemed to have been the main target based primarily on his background as a former suspected "friend of ours" (a colloquial reference to members of the Italian mafia), now living the quiet life in Myrtle Beach, and the thrust of the investigation begins as Clark's girlfriend starts looking into some of the dealings of a local HOA that he was president of (and she is a member of). The investigation is further muddied by the inclusion of other former "friends of ours" who are considered potential suspects.
The cast of characters is further broadened as some of the other neighbors in the HOA are mentioned as potential suspects including, but not limited to, a group of senior-aged women (referred to throughout the books as "The Silver Girls", an homage to television's "The Golden Girls" - with the ladies exhibiting the same characters as the cast from the television show), and an anxiety-ridden mother and her son.
That being said, the book reads very well and flows effortlessly. As such, I feel that this book would easily rate a solid four stars out of five.
As with any review, this is only my five cents worth,
Interesting start to chapter one thinking the story is headed one way, but chapter two gives a twist to the story. Once again, Caleb uses real locations in the Myrtle Beach area, and this time, the murder scene is a business I have visited. Mafia connections, characters similar to the Golden Girls tv show; Caleb's writing just keeps getting better. It definitely surprised me with the ending cause, definitely not the character I was thinking as the murderer. Introduction of another character at the end of the book makes me already think I'm not going to like this character and the possibility of where he may tie in to Clark's story. Only time and future books by Caleb will tell me if my suspicion is correct or not.

3.8 Clark is now involved in helping to solve a new murder. Angela, Clark’s new girl friend is a resident of Tital Creek . Working on their books she discovered something’s off with the HOA funds the head of the HOA, Stanley, has been keeping . Lots of money, in fact most of the money is missing. Clark is investigating this with Angela. Oh no, Stanley is murdered as is Emilie. Clark works with his former love interest Detective Gomez to solve Stanley and Emilie ‘s murders. Is it the mob? Is it a resident from Tidal Creek? Or is it someone else? Fun, intrigue, and murder along with the crazy “silver girls” of Tital Creek make for a fun easy read.
Just finished the fifth entry in this mystery series. Local bookseller and civilian sleuth Clark Thomas finds himself involved in a another. The victim is an older guy with a dark past in the mafia. There is also a group of older woman akin the the Golden Girls, called "The Silver Girls". Clark's girlfriend Andrea is even involved in this story, snopping along with him. It is very entertaining and fun.
This is the first book of the series I've given 4 stars to. In this one the main character is more fully developed and there is less a sense you're reading a travel brochure. I'm still trying to get the answer to the question at the end of the first one but did look ahead and see an answer is coming soon. If he continues this character development - with the unexpected twist this book had I'll be excited.
Very simple writing...maybe 5th grade level. Had the mystery solved half way through the book. The only interesting part was the location of the story, as I just visited the Tidal Creek Brewery while vacationing in Myrtle Beach. The brewery is a must, but the book is not.
Interesting local read. It was hard to get through as the writing style was very young, but it was entertaining at times. I did not like the ending as it was very unrealistic. No cop force would have all of their suspects locked into a brewery while a non cop citizen accuses them all of murder…..

Just finished Death at Tidal Creek. Another Slam Dunk in the Myrtle Beach Mysteries series! Caleb never fails to keep me totally engrossed in the story. Also love the local references!
Having lived in Myrtle Beach for 55years, I love reading and being able to picture the places he talks about. I attended CCU also, and formerly lived at Market Common.
Loved this book, it kept you guessing till the end! I like the MB references, places, restaurants, roads, etc. Hope Caleb keeps on writing in this series!
I started reading book1 and I have been hooked since then! Cannot wait to read the next book in the series! I recommend it to anyone who likes series books!
This series gets better with each book. I did not see the final twist coming. Still waiting to see if Clark finds out what really happened to Autumn. Can’t wait to read the next book.
This book was not as good as his previous ones, in my opinion. However it was ok and still entertaining. His books are easy to read and always have a surprise ending.
