A must for anyone interested in the work of the great Argentinian writer, Jorge Luis Borges. Prof. Garayalde settles many of the puzzles and misinterpretations of his works in a very concise and convincing account both of the Sufis and their work--with which she became familiar long before she approached Borges' own--and of the many parallels in ideas and in actual tales that are included in his work. This is an ideal introduction to Sufi thought for anyone who is searching for a greater understanding of life and him/herself through literature.
A joy to read. Difficult to write a review of this complex little book when one has not read any of Borges work. Love the book all the same. 'For example in Streetcorner man (Infamy, p.87) when we discover right at the end that the harmless and mediocre narrator is the man who has avenged the whole nighbourhoood we are completely confused and we realize that our first reading and interpretation was faulty; we therefore have to retrace our thoughts and find a parallel approach to explain the other ending, which we had not forseen.'
