The Rococo offered an immediate visual escape from tradition into a free world of linear romance; and Rococo was allowed to roam delightfully and safely in the salons and galleries. As a wide generalization, it is fair to say that high Baroque adventure belonged to the Catholic world and restrained classicism to the Protestant.
