LAYLA DORINE lives among the sprawling prairies of Midwestern America, in a house with more cats than people. She loves hiking, fishing, swimming, martial arts, camping out, photography, cooking, and dabbling with several artistic mediums. In addition, she loves to travel and visit museums, historic, and haunted places.

Layla got hooked on writing as a child, starting with poetry and then branching out, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. Hard times, troubled times, the lives of her characters are never easy, but then what life is? The story is in the struggle, the journey, the triumphs and the falls. She writes about artists, musicians, loners, drifters, dreamers, hippies, bikers, truckers, hunters and all the other folks that she’s met and fallen in love with over the years. Sometimes she writes urban romance and sometimes its aliens crash landing near a roadside bar. When she isn’t writing, or wandering somewhere outdoors, she can often be found curled up with a good book and a kitty on her lap.

Emily Sessions did a great iob in distinguishing and establishing the different personalities of these men. I didnt find mvself lost at any point iust enjoying the melodic beauty that is this narrarators voice.
Garrett & Noah (Mouse) are an established couple looking for a third to fit into their lives. Cass is new to the pet play kink scene in the area and cannot help but be drawn to Daddy G and his kitty Mouse. The three take their times in knowing and letting each other in, when tragedy strikes Cass home, Garrett aid Noah are there to help him find his new normal. Loved all the wavs the kink community where brought in showing the fun side of pet play aid the activities that these pets and their companions get into

Painted Love is part of the ‘Pride Pet Play 2023’ collection written by various authors. This stars Cas, an artist, Mouse, a writer, and Garrett aka Daddy G, a firefighter. This is told in third person from Cas, Mouse, and Garrett’s povs.

The blurb does a brief rundown of the plot. You’ve got Mouse and Daddy G looking for a third for their relationship, and Cas looking for a Daddy who will accept him as he is. He doesn’t have much confidence in his ferret suit because he made it by hand from pieced together fabric. But Mouse and Daddy G don’t mind. Garrett is happy that Cas respects the rules Garrett set up for the first time they play together at the munch. They all get along and exchange phone numbers agreeing to meet up again.

This is a fluffy romance, with some suspense added in about an arsonist. I thought the author did a good job at creating a plot that was interesting. Most Daddy/pet stories I’ve read, are much simpler with lots of sex and little relationship building. For me, I thought the author had the characters decide they wanted to become a trouple too quickly. I think it was after the second date and Garrett was already focused on making the relationship exclusive. From there it was Mouse and Cas learning about each other, lots of sex between different couples, and the arsonist story for the final conflict. I did feel that there were too many sex scenes. A couple could’ve been left out and the story would still have worked fine.

The quibbles I had were that sometimes there was too much description which led to too much monologue. And for some reason, the scenes didn’t aways flow smoothly into the next one. It’s like the author got caught up in the description or dialogue and then when they switched gears, they just jumped to the next scene without a transition. This created a slight jerky sensation when reading at times. I haven’t read many books by this author, this is probably only the second one, so I don’t know if this is their usual style of writing or if they’ve improved. The style is not enough for me to stop reading this author. Also, there was no discussion about using condoms. They just went bare the first time without talking about it. None of them used condoms the whole time.

As to the characters, they did seem to have the same voice, especially Cas and Mouse. Their behaviors were different while in their pet forms, but sometimes I was confused with who was speaking. Garrett’s voice seemed to fluctuate a little, from rough to almost the same as Cas and Mouse’s.

Overall, I liked Painted Love. It had a more interesting plot than most of the Daddy/pet stories I’ve read. I liked the characters and could believe they made a good trouple. The voices could’ve been more distinct between all the characters, and the scene changes could’ve been smoother. I give this book, 3 Stars.

It was pretty simplistic, they meet and boom, are basically a trio right off the bat. I would have appreciated a bit more about Mouse's background and I appreciated Cas making his own suit and making do (but who doesn't have a bank account? There is no cost to opening a bank account.) I thought the whole It was very sweet and cute.

Utterly enchanting - my favorite of the series

Wow! This book has just taken the first place spot for my favorite of the Pride Pet Play series. It is an absolutely lovely story that hits all the feels and has plenty of 🔥🔥🔥!

Cas is new in town and nervously attending a munch alone at the local BDSM club when he spots two men that take his breath away. Garrett, or Daddy G, and Mouse, who's actually a kitty, are an established couple looking for a third to help fill in some of the empty spaces in their relationship. Garrett is a firefighter, who works sometimes long shifts and is often on call. Mouse, or Noah, is an author - a bit of a workaholic - who works from home. Mouse gets extremely lonely when his Daddy is working and the two men are hoping to find someone that can fit into their chaotic schedules. Cas is an artist. He paints murals and works from job to job - often at weird hours. He's also a ferret! When the three men meet they have an instant connection and are eager to see if they can build on this. I really, really loved how the author took their time to give us a good look at each of the MC's and their thought processes. They took the time to truly develop the individual personas, as well as how the three of them interact together. This is absolutely a love story between three men. Each man retains his own unique personality while also showing how compromise and work goes into the daily growing of their partnership. You get to see the strengths and weaknesses of each one and how they made each other better for being together. So many sweet and touching moments that just make you sigh - and then they morph into 🔥🔥🔥 smexy times! Again, I really, really loved how the author gives each couple: Garrett and Mouse, Garrett and Cas, and Cas and Mouse time as just the two, along with the times of the three together. It made it seem more real and believable. There was a lot of affirmations regarding honesty and communication, but it didn't yet preach-y. Honestly, there wasn't a single thing about this book that I didn't love. The backdrop of the Pride parade, the blossoming relationships between the three men, and then let's add on a little background angst that has to do with Garrett's job, and this book just ticked all my boxes! I wholeheartedly recommend this book and I'd give it 10/10*! Just beautiful!

This story is part of the multi author 'Pride Play 2023' series. This one has a furries with spice and kink concept.
These three men are what the other two need in different ways. I like how Cass & Noah (Mouse) do enjoy, relax and recharge in their furry selves with Garret (Daddy G.)
The furries both have creative careers and Daddy has a sometimes stressful firefighter career and his boys are a balm to his soul. At its core it is a sweet story, but at some parts the storyline felt rushed. I was confused why no boundaries or talk was mentioned how they would play in and outside of the 'bedroom'.
I did like that there also was a who dunnit storyline linked to arsons which Garrett had to tackle. I however felt tgat pkoyline was let go a bit anf at the end it was seemingly clear who did it out of the blue.

I personally could have done with less of the intimate scenes, especially the food orientated ones.

Audiobook
The narration was done by Emily Sessions who is new to me. This kis a new to me narrator and I would not mind hearing more by this warm voice. They have a lovely voice for the story and it never got boring. At some points I had slight sound issues, but it was not to the detriment of the story. 4*

Overall 3,75*

Cas is an earnest and honest ferret and made his own suit via a patchwork of different coloured fur to make it more accurate. He just wants the chance to prove that he can be a good pet. Mouse is a kitty with an amazing Daddy. They have been looking for a third to join them in playtime maybe forever if everything fits. The more time they spend together, the more they bond. But will an arsonist bring all their plans crashing down around them before they ever have the chance to see them realized?

I loved this story and the way that they all bonded was magical, but the fire and what could have happened was just scary. I loved the way that Mouse fell for Cas first it wasn't long for the others. The fire was dramatic and the way that Cas saved himself and Mouse was outstanding. Their Daddy's response was sheer terror and I can totally understand his reaction and the way that they comforted each other. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MMM story with mature content and a BSDM-like DDLB relationship with pet play.

My first read by this author, and definitely not my last. Was super sweet. I've never read a ferret play story before, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it.

My only notes: The ending was a little rushed, and the reveal of the arsonist was truly underwhelming. It was glossed over and Would've been good if that incident had occurred a little earlier, and how his friends, club, clients, and the wider community rallied around to support him. Also, all three of these guys needed therapy, firefighter especially because of his workplace trauma.

Cas Knows what he wants and is trying the best he can to achieve it. But not everyone is kind and he’s very shy. Along come Garret and Mouse who draw Cas into their family. I love the way they all fit together. There is some danger from the outside but this just helps them bond even more. This is a sweet pet triad that lets you see the love and respect they have each other.

Painted Love

I don’t know if it’s me but I found this book waffly. There seemed to be a lot of nothing happening. The idea was cute but I just didn’t connect with the characters or plot. I’m sure others will enjoy.

This book was cute and reminded me somewhat of an afterschool special. (Showing my age here.) Sweet, simple, and just a little bit preachy. I especially enjoyed the two pets together (in bed and out). They were just so damn adorable.
