A beautiful, informative, must-have for all baseball fans. I have been a baseball fan from afar, mostly through my diehard family, and this collection makes it easy for me to learn more and follow along more closely. All the greats that I hear people talk about make more sense. I love the pictures and anecdotes. The chapters are broken down by positions and roles, making it easier to find information. The pictures are what make it most meaningful to me. I felt like I was truly able to experience and reminisce with the pictures and graphics provided. This will take its rightful place on my bookshelf to be enjoyed regularly by those who love the game and the players.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own and freely given.

For anyone who is a baseball fan any book about the Baseball Hall of Fame is worth the read. Here you have a book full of pictures and is broken down in sections by position. You are also given updates on the newly elected members, with some having more written about than others. Either way, it is a good book and it would be difficult to put everyone in with their picture and description though it would be worth it.
The Hall of Fame itself is fantastic the moment you arrive and really before you walk through the doors. Just once you are inside and seeing all of the histories is great. The Hall which has all of the Plaques is great to look at and you get to see some of the old guys and their stats like Joseph McGinnity a pitcher from 1899-1908. He would start five doubleheaders and won both of three times, complete games are rare today but can you have imagined two complete games in a single day. He still won 246 and had over 3,400 innings pitched, he is also of a group that pitched over ten years and never had a losing record. I remember when I saw this plaque and thinking I had never heard of this person. This is the type of information you receive visiting the Hall of Fame.
This book though is a good reference and starting point. Like I said there are so many people in it would be difficult to have everyone in the book now. You will see that some positions are short of people as opposed to others catchers for example. I think that there should have been more people in the Hall but the writers like certain positions more than others and it shows by the number of people in one category as opposed to others. Overall a good book with excellent photos, very much worth the read. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at

The National Baseball Hall of Fame Collection by James Buckley is an absolutely fun book for any baseball fan from the most rabid to the most casual.

My intention was to take my time going through the book. The design, short entries and plenty of pictures, lends itself to jumping in and out of the book when convenient. But I found myself looking forward to which players might be covered next that I went through it (the first time, there will be more) quicker than I expected.

I have been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember, at least as far back as 1963. I spent a year as a batboy for the Senators when Ted Williams was manager. My interest in the game has waxed and waned since that time but I never fell out of love with the game. Now you have an idea of the type of fan I am, mostly casual now but with the knowledge of a more serious fan (since I have been one on several occasions).

The entries are short, really just to let the reader know why the player was inducted and where he fits in the larger scheme of things. A few entries are larger, sometimes for a special player, sometimes more topically driven but still including key names. This is not an in depth book, there are plenty of those out there. This is like walking briskly through the Hall of Fame itself, highlights and memories.

I think a casual fan who has never been into the game very much will appreciate the short entries and key contextualizing elements of each. A fan for whom these are all familiar names will have a great time remembering names they had forgotten and reliving old times. As an Oriole fan who had family in Los Angeles, I was able, at 8 years of age, to attend all four games of the '66 World Series. The thrill then was sweeping the Dodgers, the thrill later was knowing I watched Koufax pitch his last game. Those memories came back when I saw entries on some of the players involved. Every fan will have similar memories that will come back when they read this book.

I highly recommend this to anyone even remotely interested in the game.

"The National Baseball Hall of Fame Collection: Celebrating the Game's Greatest Players" by James Buckley is a tribute to the sport and its legendary players, making it a perfect addition to any baseball fan's library.

Buckley weaves together biographies, statistics, and photos, chronicling the greats of American baseball. Organized by position, then by player, you can choose to read this cover to cover, or dip in and out, sampling favorite stars or bits of trivia.

This is an update to the previous edition from the Baseball Hall of Fame and the layout makes it an ideal coffee table book or gift - especially for those who have not yet had the opportunity to see the memorabilia at Cooperstown in person.

[Reader’s Note: The Advanced Reader Copy I was graciously provided was a digital version, not the full format version and the final corrected proof. This proved a bit of a challenge, as there were some formatting issues that are unique to this specific situation. I am unable to say whether the final published digital version of this book will present some of the same challenges.

Personally, I would purchase the physical format of this book for myself first. The photos, sidebars, layout, and copy really work beautifully as a whole and lose a bit of the experience and wow factor when condensed down to fit the window of my 11” iPad.

That being said, it’s possible the published version of this book will have a digital version geared specifically for e-readers that makes both experiences equally enjoyable.]

Subtitle: Celebrating the Game’s Greatest Players

I received a digital advance reader copy of this book through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

This book features a selection of photos and text profiles of several members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. It was not described as a coffee table book, but based on the number and sizes of the photos versus the text sections of the book, I have to assume it is intended to be a coffee table book.

Players were grouped by position, with certain players selected as ‘best of the best’ at their position. I question several of the choices made – Tom Seaver over Walter Johnson, Ted Williams over Stan Musial, and Willie Mays over Ty Cobb. The written profiles were pretty generic, but if you’re going to buy this book you’re going to be buying it for the photographs – there are beautiful full-color photos of modern players, and crisp black-and-white ones for players from baseball’s earlier era. The book also includes photos of some player contracts and scouting reports that are interesting in their own right.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame Collection was a nice trip down memory lane, but there’s not a lot I could see that would separate it from other similar books other than including the most up-to-date roster of Hall of Fame members. I still gave it four stars on Goodreads

Thanks to James Buckley, Quarto Publishing Group and Netgalley for access to the advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

For me, baseball is all about memories – individually and collectively. Those “remember when” moments that we all share. This book is full of such memories – of players we remember and those we wish we had had a chance to see.

The book is organized by position and provides a short description of the accomplishments of each member of the hall of fame. It also provides a short history of the establishment of the hall of fame.
Recommended for baseball fans everywhere and will likely be a best seller at the hall of fame itself.

This is a fun preview of the Hall of Fame! It gives you quick profiles of some of the greats, and with the “Best-of-the-Best” pages, Buckley creates a single all time team. Highly recommend for any baseball fans. I would have liked to see more relics and pieces of history included, but seeing a sampling of contracts of famous players is a cool inclusion. For those looking for more depth, “The Baseball 100” offers more players, and more expanded personal stories, and “The Cooperstown Casebook” provides more advance statistical analysis!

I am a huge baseball fan, so this book was perfect for me. I hope to one day to go visit Cooperstown, but being able to read this book to get a glimpse of some of the people inducted there was such a treat.

My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and author James Buckley for the opportunity to review an ARC of this book.

If you are a baseball fan, and in particular if you have an appreciation for baseball history, then you will like this book which is all about Cooperstown and the members of Baseball's Hall of Fame. This is not a book per se with chapters that you read in order. It would best be described in my opinion as a coffee table book. There are sections devoted to the various positions in baseball (e.g., pitcher, catcher), accompanied by stories and photographs about the most famous players as well as a listing of other players in the Hall.

It is one of these books that fans can revisit over and over again. The author did a very good job compiling this information with numerous factoids and tidbits of information, particularly about the early days of baseball.

You will savor this book if you are a fan.

The perfect book for a baseball fan! I am more familiar with the modern baseball players and have heard about some of the more famous old ones (Babe Ruth etc) but it was nice to read more about the older players who made their name as a baseball hero back in the day.

This is a perfect little baseball coffee table book. Unlike most books about the players in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, it is organized by position played. Of course, it includes photos - many of which were not known to me, a lifetime baseball fan - and short write-ups on most of the players. So it's not really adding to our knowledge of these stars, but it's a friendly read all the same, with an attractive layout.
