There were several points where I got way too excited and skipped ahead, only to be mildly confused so I had to go back. For someone not big into fantasy, I’ll definitely be continuing on with the series.
I wasn't quite sure what to think when I first picked this up, but the plot of the story drew me in and I was never bored at any point. There were several twists along the way that kept things fresh, and I like that exposition was kept to a minimum, which immersed me fully in the world, finding out things a little at a time at the same pace as the main character. The prose at the beginning of the story is less smooth and harder to get through but the narrative was intriguing enough that I could ignore awkward phrasing and repeated information given my curiosity to know what happened next.
The worldbuilding was very interesting, and for some reason the lizards who controlled everything gave me a Dragon Ball Z feel, so as I went along I imagined the story with that style of animation in my head. The story also does a nice job balancing action and introspection, so although we spend a lot of time in the main character's head it never feels overdone. There were several small mysteries left unanswered which I didn't mind at all as it gave me the freedom to imagine what the answers and implications of things were, helping me to linger in the world of "Of Things Man Made" between reading sessions and after I finished the story.
Overall, a nicely inventive imagining into a post-apocalyptic world that I quite enjoyed reading.
Not my normal read but wanted something different. From the very beginning it captured me and continued all the way to the end! Can't wait for the next book to find out Adam's special powers and new assignment!
