The sweet, smart, and sexy final installment in the New York Times bestselling series.
It's the last summer at Pebble Beach before everyone goes off to college. George and Beth are no longer together, but will they make up before Beth heads off to (oh, the irony) GEORGEtown? Kelsi has a new college boy around for the summer, but can he make her pulse flutter the way Tim used to? Meanwhile, Ella runs into a dangerous blast from the past...can she resist him? Between sipping homemade margaritas by the shore, and helping each other through their romantic woes, the Tuttle girls might just make this the craziest, sweetest, most unforgettable summer ever.
Hailey Abbott grew up in Southern California, where she split her time between creative writing and creative beaching. She is the author of Summer Boys, Next Summer: A Summer Boys Novel, The Bridesmaid, Getting Lost with Boys, and The Secrets of Boys. Hailey now lives in New York City.
Her first book was Summer Boys, published in 2004, the first of a series. It was described as "escapist beach reading" by the School Library Journal.
i actually liked this one. it was a good ending to wrap everything up.
so i ended up favouring jeremy and ella but i still really like bennett and kelsi. george and beth kinda have an open ending but i surprisingly was happy for them. and i’m very happy for jamie and her little europe adventures but we know nothing about the man.
the cottage burning down was a little crazy but it helped beth realize some things. and the little figurine made me sad. beth’s new man had 0 personality but i liked their morning runs.

This is the first book I have read from Hailey Abbott. "Last Summer" was an amazing action and romance book to read. I loved how the book always kept me interested and wondering what was going to happen next. I felt very connected with the characters in the book.
Kelsi, Ella, and Beth, return to Pebble Beach for the summer. Ella's relationship is not good with Kelsi, her sister. Kelsi and her boyfriend, Bennett, try to have a long-distance relationship, which ends up making Bennett's decision to choose between Kelsi and his new job offer even more difficult. Beth and her ex-boyfriend, George, try to just be friends, but when Beth's new boyfriend decides that George wants Beth back he tell her that he's not comfortable with George around. Ella and Kelsi's friend, Taryn, do not get along. Ella feels that Taryn stole Kelsi from her. When Taryn starts sneaking around with both Ella's and Kelsi's ex-boyfriend Ella is jealous and tries to hide her past relationship from Jeremy. Bennett accepts a summer internship in New York, he and Kelsi agrees on a long-distance relationship. Things became hard but they still stay together. When Bennett gets offered a job, he declines it just so he can be with Kelsi. This upsets her and she convinces him to take the job. Beth and George decide to be just friends, but when Beth's new boyfriend comes along and says that George is only hanging around because he wants Beth back. Beth suggests that they don't be friends anymore. The ending brings them together, and Beth realizes that she can't be without him.
Characters in this book included: Kelsi, who was Ella's sister and had her boyfriend, Bennett, she was madly in love with. Ella, who was Kelsi's sister and was trying to stay with her boyfriend, Jeremy. Beth, and her ex boyfriend are trying to be friends again, then it lead to more, and her summer cottage had broken down. Another character was Tayran, who is Kelsi's best friend and was with Kelsi's ex.
The setting of this book takes place in the summer time. All the girls were on spring break in the summer house. It is in modern times, everyone was using e-mailing or text messaging.
I would recommend this book to all of my friends. I think that this book best suits teenagers or adults. Anyone who loves a action filled love story will fall in love with this book.
Only book worth reading in my opinion I feel like she should have just wrote one long book 🤷🏻♀️ however I’m glad this adventure is over, it ended good and I probably won’t think about this series again. Bye pebble beach! 👋🏻
This book is the 4th and final book of the Summer Girls series by Hailey Abbott. This book is full of juicy gossip and suspense for young women to enjoy. Last summer comes from the point of view of 3 girls, 2 of them sisters, and one of them a cousin, through their whirlwind of romances, adventures and drama at Pebble Beach, their family home every summer. This is two of the girls last summer before they go off to college, so you get a good sense of growing up and maturing as the book progresses and the situations pan out. I loved how the author had each chapter from each girl’s point of view, so you could really get a great sense of exactly how they feel to make it easier to understand and relate to. Hailey Abbott did a great job at describing each situation to make you feel as if you were there yourself, which made it so much more enjoyable for me to read. I wasn't a huge fan of some of the things that happened in the plot; I also was not satisfied with it how it ended, but I enjoyed the book overall. I was very upset that it ended, as I have been reading this series since I got into high school. (Now finishing up my sophomore year) If you haven’t read the first 3 books, I do not recommend reading this one. This series was so alluring for me, and I greatly recommending finishing it up by reading the final one, although it is very sad, or starting it if it sparks your interest. It is not the most challenging book to read, so if you don’t enjoy reading books without deep meaning, this book probably isn’t for you. If you like the Gossip Girl series, you will probably enjoy this book as well as the prior ones.
In the last book of the steamy SUMMER BOYS series, Beth, Ella, and Kelsi are back in Pebble Beach for a summer to remember.
Beth and George are becoming friends, even though they are exes. Some people are just meant to be friends, but is there more to it?
Kelsi and Bennett are truly in love except for the whole long-distance thing. Can Bennett have the internship that he wants -- and the girl? Or is it not possible to have both?
Ella finally gets to see her own long-distance boyfriend, Jeremy, all the time and not just on weekends. But Peter, her old hookup, is bothering her a little too much.
This is a fun summer beach read, but the ending is kind of sad. At the same time, though, it also has a good twist and is really unexpected. LAST SUMMER really is the last good romance of the summer.
Last Summer was a great book to read as it was exciting and fun. Most chapters were really interesting because each chapter referred to an opinion of one of the girls, and you could understand what they felt from their point of view. The scenes in most of the books were either intense or engaging. Sometimes, the chapters of the books were a bit boring especially when there were the love scenes because it carried on for a long time.. Overall, this book would be one of the best books in the series. I really enjoyed it.
Personal Response I thought this book was good. However, it was a little confusing, because it had so many characters. It was hard to keep track of who was dating who. I was also confused if the Tuttle girls were all cousins or sisters. I thought the storyline was kind of boring, because nothing good really happened. I felt like there wasn’t a climax moment. I also was unaware that this book was the last book of a series. I wouldn’t read the rest of series in this book, because I now know the ending. It wasn’t a joyful read because it felt like the book was never going to end, which was torture. Plot The Tuttle cousins Ella, Kelsi, and Beth went to Pebble Beach one last time before attending college. The girls went to Pebble Beach every summer, but this time would be the last time they would all be together. There was tension between Ella and Kelsi, because a few minutes after Kelsi and Peter broke up Ella slept with Peter. Ella was upset Kelsi didn’t want to talk to her anymore because she slept with Peter. Kelsi and Taryn became best friends, and Ella felt replaced. Characterization There were lots of characters in this story. Beth and George were together for a long time and acted like an old married couple. They slowly drifted apart and experienced relationships with other people. Ella and Jerome won’t be together long, because Ella was a player and can’t keep a boyfriend. Ella liked to think she was a princess, and if she wasn’t treated right she dumped the poor guy. Kelsi and Bennett had a long distance relationship. Bennett worked in New York City for his idol artist, while Kelis was in Maine at Pebble Beach for the summer. Bennett had a sister, Tayran, who was best friends with Kelsi. Impact Setting This story took place in Maine in a little place called Pebble Beach. This took place in the 20th century because the clothes the girls wore were mose from that century. For many years the Tuttle family stayed at a little, old cabin for their summers. Ella liked to go to the dock with Jerome, or to the lighthouse to spy on Taryn and party. Beth liked to run the trails all the time to relax her mind. She met Adam at the baseball field when she finished running the trails. Kelsi also drove to see her boyfriend, Bennett, in New York City for his summer job. Thematic Connection The author taught young adults they had to be selfless when in love. Problems were normal in relationships, but they have to be willing to fix them. For example, George let Beth go even when he knew he still loved her. He knew letting her be with Adam would allow her to experience being with someone else. When Beth’s cabin burnt down, all the Tuttle girls were there for her and gave her their clothes. Bennett was offered to continue his job in New York City but said, “no,” because he wanted to be with Kelsi. Kelsi insisted he take the job, because it was more important to him. Recommendation I would recommend this book to high school girls. Girls around age 15 and up like to hear more about love stories and gossip. Girls can relate to family and relationships problems more, because they are more sensitive. I feel like the author does a really good job telling the story from a teenager’s point of view. She also does a good job at telling the story from different situations.
"Last Summer" by Hailey Abbott was such an amazing book. While Beth is at Pebble Beach with her family she runs into her ex boyfriend, George. They decide it would be okay for them to hangout as just friends. Kelsi and Bennett have their "first time" with each other and Kelsi couldn't feel any happier. Bennett got an assistant job with his idol but it's not letting him see Kelsi has much as they both wanted. Kelsi feels the only reason she really feels like this is because they decided to take that second step. Ella wonders what's going on, because of Kelsi's new best friend she hasn't had much time to spend with her sister, Ella. Ella is caught up with the hot summer, ocean breeze and hot lifeguards. The hot lifeguard, Jeremy, is now her boyfriend. Jamie is the girl who would like reading instead of enjoying the summer with her family. That's all about to change when one hot guy tries talking to her. The Tuttles are in for a rude awakening when everything starts going wrong. I thought this book was absolutely amazing. It's full of anticipation and love. I would recommend the "Last Summer" by Hailey Abbott to everyone. It's that kind of book I think everyone would love to read.
I enjoyed reading this book. It has all the elements of my favorite reading materials. In this book, teenage girls whom are all cousins, travel to their cottages in Maine for the summer. Each one spends their summers differently because no two girls are the same. This book is for any young adult girl who loves to read about summer romances.
Okay, I had to admit that I underestimated the book at first. Almost regretted why I bought it in the first place.
It is all about an extended family called the Tuttles, with all-girls cousins, who take long weeks vacation in the Pebble Beach in their family cottages and of course, inhale a little romance here and there with their old boyfriends from school and new-found boyfriends from the coastal residence.
It started out simple and typical, with a family of blonde girls having summer romance in a white sandy beach, missing their boyfriends, having small fights, jealousy...
But things finally started to gear up when complications arise. I totally know how it feels to have a long distance relationship like Kelsi and Bennett and have to sacrifece such long distances, going back and forth just to visit one another. I even resisted the urge to roll my eyes when it came to their part of the story. I hated, really hated the bitchy Taryn, for she has absolutely no respect or heart toward her friend's family who has taken her in for their summer vacation. Taryn even has the temerity to attack Kelsi, her oh-so-former-BFF who is just plain humble, sincere, kind, and thoughtful just because Taryn feels Kelsi is making Bennett (Taryn's older brother) holding back from his dream job in New York. She is so repulsive that I just want to smack her with my own bare hands for the sake of unsuspecting Kelsi. As if Taryn had a sensible bone in her body to truly concern such things with her brother. I admired Ella, though, for she can handle her emotions and relationship much better than Kelsi, her older sister. I also wanted to be a bit more relaxed, cool, but still-independent like Jamie. George is super great, by the way, with his goofy and super-patient attitude toward Beth's refusal to start their relationship again. I was so moved when he comes to visit Beth so often and even tries to rescue her from the fire that burns down her family's cottage. He is no athlete, so unlike Beth, but he definitely topples almost everyone in that category with his sincerity and effort to repair things that are worthwhile. It was like seeing a brief glimpse of Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable's relationship, the very kind which I have always liked to see.
Oh, it's a good read, but their calm and 'save' world only belongs to the upper class people in SoHo, Beverly Hills areas. In most part of the world such luxuries are just plain impossible to come by. What a beautifully written palace of illusions, this book.
This book was a nice wrap-up to Abbott's Summer Boys series. This book is about what will most likely be the last summer for all the cousins to be together. It involves the secrets, drama, and pain of growing-up and finding yourself that the first three did. I did notice some timing issues in this book that didn't affect the story too much, but were a bit annoying. For example, book three mentions Ella sitting being a senior (she sits in the senior row at school assemblies), but then this book talks about her going back to school for her senior year after this summer. As mentioned, it doesn't really affect the story overall, but could be annoying to those who read the books one after another and pay close attention. This story ends on a hopeful note for each of the girls, but still open-ended which was good. These girls are all still young and will have plenty of life experiences coming their way, so it would have felt weird if Abbott did a "happily ever after" type of ending. Overall, a fun ending book to a fun and light series - a great read even if it's not summer.
Terrible! I was so angry at this book, it felt so stupid. Bennett was a bad choice, Kelsi, and how can you not care about Peter and Taryn but fucking go crazy over Peter and Ella, like she wasn't even a good friend either! Beth and George's relationship was lowkey just annoying like drop him already from yo life, boo. Love Ella, but Jeremy is meh. I was just not here for this book, this series feels like it repeats past issues like cheating for every single couple, and it gets annoying after a few books. I just can't even with this book, like idek why I even read this 2-star series.
As I read this whole series, I was having to kind of force myself to finish. I had bought the books with high hopes and I felt like I might as well finish it anyways. I never connected with any of the characters, the author never really went deep into characterization, which is why I had trouble with it. Overall, I don’t really recommend this series.
I believe this book is a series. I have only read this one by Hailey Abbott. At first it was hard to follow because each chapter was about a different character, all linked together. It got good towards the middle and hot too ;). I may read some of her other books.
This was a really good end to this series! As a whole it had its highs and lows. I think this is cute for a teen but there were a few story lines I wasn’t interested in that made it a little difficult to get through. However this last book was cute and I’m happy I finished it.
Ella was right and Taryn was a complete bitch. Again, the series left Jamie out who is one of the more interesting characters. And the house burning down pissed me off.

Personal Response: Last Summer is a fantastic book to read. I thought it was fairly easy to read, and it always kept me interested. I liked how the book wasn’t too big. There are three main characters in this book and they all can relate to me and others, which is my favorite part of this book.
Plot: Beth, Ella, and Kelsi returned to their family cottage in Pebble Beach for the summer. Every summer their families all gathered together in their cottages in Maine and spend the whole summer there. Beth ended up running into her ex boyfriend, George. Kelsi brought her friend Taryn with, which made Ella jealous. Taryn acted just like Ella, which Ella did not like. Throughout this whole book, Kelsi would make Ella feel like she was being replaced by Taryn. Ella once spied on Taryn because she thought Taryn was stabbing her sister in the back by going out with Peter. Peter is Kelsi’s ex boyfriend, whom Ella also went out with. Meanwhile, Beth struggled to maintain a friendship with her ex boyfriend, while trying to move on. Beth met this guy named Jimmy and they were almost perfect for each other. They were both athletic and loved to run. The only problem was that he didn’t have a sense of humor like George. Towards the end of the book, Jimmy revealed that he wasn’t comfortable with Beth hanging with George, leaving Beth to decide if she wanted to stay with Jimmy or keep George as a friend.
Characterization: Beth, Ella, and Kelsi are all the main characters in this book. Kelsi is the older sister of Ella. Kelsi started off completely in love and dependant on her boyfriend, Bennett. Towards the end of this book, Kelsi learned that she can handle a couple of months without being with him all the time. Ella is the younger sister of Kelsi. Ella started off by having a rocky relationship with her sister, but towards the end they ended up working out their problems. Beth is the cousin of Ella and Kelsi. In the beginning of this book, Beth’s main goal was to move on from George, but towards the end she realized that she will always need him in her life. Taryn, Bennett, Jimmy, George, and Jamie are all minor characters in this book. Throughout this book, Kelsi had to battle a long distance relationship with her boyfriend, Bennett. Near the end of this book, Bennett had to make a decision whether to accept a job in New York, or go back to school with Kelsi.
Setting: This book takes place in Pebble Beach in the summer. Pebble Beach is located in Maine. The girls and their families go there every summer to bond with each other. This book is in the modern times.
Thematic Connection: The theme for this book is to live life to it’s fullest. Beth, Ella, and Kelsi let themselves worry about every little thing instead of actually enjoying their summer. They each let their problems interfere with their summer so they never got the chance to relax and enjoy each others company.
Recommendation: I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic novels. I think teenage girls would like this book the best because they can easily relate to the three main girls in this book.
My goodness! These girls infuriate me sometimes! I liked how the series ended but I also am a bit peeved at some of the things that happened in this book.
in this final book Ella is still seeing Jeremy after getting back together on thanksgiving. ella is so excited that hes only gonna be mere mintues away from her instead of hours for the entire summer.
Kelsi brings along her roommate taryn who's brother she is currently dating his name is Bennett. Kelsi is so excited because she thinks her an ella are gonna get along great because their so much alike. When in fact ella don't like her at all. Esepcially when she finds out that inbetween kelsi going to new York to visit Bennett Taryn is seeing peter the same peter that ella hooked up with hours after breaking up with kelsi and hurt kelsi when she found out what ella had done.
Beth and George are officially broken up at their graduation their a little awkward to each other unsure of how to be after everything that has happened. George informs Beth that hes gonna be at pebble beach this summer as well his friend dean has invited him to stay with him and he didn't want it to be a surprise to beth if they bumped into each other. Beth meets a guy jimmy but after the summer realizes that he don't really have a sense of humour and that its not gonna work out.
Jamie has been weird all summer dodgeing questions about college and shopping for dorm room stuff. At the end she announces that in fact she has met a guy and has decided to put off college for a year to back pack around Europe with him.
In this series finale Beths family cabin burns down by a lint trap in the dryer. Nobody is unsure of whos coming back next summer certainly not Jamie she'll be seeing all of Europe, beth is afraid even if they rebuild a cabin it will never be the same all the memories are gone and kelsi has decided that if Bennett takes this new internship she will probably just stay in new York with him which just leaves ella who has decided she will be coming back especiall because of Jeremy.
"Last Summer" is about three girls Beth, Kelsi, and Ella. Kelsi and Ella are sisters and Beth is their cousin. They all go to Pebble Beach in Maine every year. This year is different for each of them compared to other years because; Beth and George aren't dating and he used to come up with her, Kelsi is at college and she brings a college friend with her this summer, and Ella feels left out. I really enjoyed "Last Summer" because I really liked how the author had all three of the main characters related in some way.
Beth Kelsi and Ella are the main characters of "Last Summer". Kelsi and Ella are sisters, and Beth is their cousin. All three of them are close. Kelsi is in college, and she makes a new friend, who she brings to Maine. She also has a boyfriend who is in New York so she this time she also goes to New York a few times so she could visit her boyfriend. Ella feels like everything changed this summer because Kelsi hung out with her boyfriend and friend Taryn most of the time instead of her. Beth tries to be friends with her ex George, and during the summer, they spent a lot of time together since he was also in Maine. She meets this new guy, and he does not like that she spends a lot of time with George.
The setting of this book is in Maine, and partially New York and the time is in the summer.
The theme of this book is to be there for others especially through the hard times. All three of them show this theme all throughout the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance novels because this book has a whole lot of romance in it.
