Yoga and the Twelve-Step Path

Rate this book
The powerful practice of yoga, with all its diverse approaches and time-honored traditions, meets twelve-step recovery. Those in recovery who yearn to connect more fully in the suggested "prayer and meditation" of Step Eleven will welcome this delightful book from a fresh voice in recovery literature. Kyczy Hawk's experiences of addiction and recovery make her a relatable, compassionate guide to an integrative practice that addresses the threefold aspects of addiction―body, mind, and spirit―for a new experience of recovery and of physical and spiritual health.

I love it - at first I was too close but now I love it. I would write more, change some, but I am so content that I would rather love it than alter it now. This is one of the very first guides to combining the powerful wisdom of yoga with the tools of 12 Step recovery- it lays them out together so that their interellationship can be traced. If you like yoga and recovery you will enjoy this book, I hope!

The author describes in her book the way she used yoga to enhance her recovery from alcohol and drugs. She was also in a 12 step recovery program and found a way she could incorporate both into her daily life. Since I'm familiar with both philosophies I found it useful. If you're just beginning a recovery program or yoga this is probably not the best book for you.
