She wakes to the dawn light streaming through the window and rolls over to whisper good morning to her fiancé. But panic floods her veins. His side of the bed is empty and cold. Blood trails towards the open door. All trace of him is gone…

It’s been one month since Detective Katie Scott ’s fiancé, Chad , went missing without a trace. Devastated Katie is still working tirelessly day and night to track down the love of her life, barely sleeping and chasing every new lead. But now the case has gone cold.

When the body of beautiful Gina Hartfield is discovered among the pine needles in a clearing on Lookout Ridge, Katie swallows her own pain and knows she must focus on finding Gina’s killer. The young woman was found with a pink velvet blindfold shading the hollows where her eyes had been removed. Katie is certain she is chasing a sadistic individual who will soon take another life…

But the autopsy reveals Gina’s body was washed before being abandoned, leaving no trace of evidence behind. And with no witnesses to Gina’s disappearance, the women of Pine Valley are terrified to go out alone.

Desperately combing the crime scene, when Katie sees a newspaper article about her previous cases pinned to a nearby tree, she is certain Gina’s murder is personal. Then tire tracks found in the forest are matched to a truck seen following Chad in the days leading up to his disappearance. Katie’s blood runs cold .

Is there a link between Chad’s disappearance and Gina’s brutal murder, or is the killer playing a twisted game with Katie? Can she find out the truth before they take another life?

Detective Katie Scott’s fiancée, Chad disappears from their bed at a cabin while on vacation in this tenth installment in the series. Katie and her partner Sean McGaven investigate the case of dead, maimed women turning up around town. They think they are somehow connected to Chads disappearance and murders committed a long time ago. Katie, Sean and her k-9 partner Cisco fight for their lives in this edge of your seat thriller.
This was an excellent book and I can’t hardly wait to read the next in this great series.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read this ARC that will be released July 17, 2023!

Another great crime thriller from Jennifer Chase.
Katie’s life is in turmoil after the disappearance of Chad and she’s hiding away from her friends.
A murder brings her back to work as her Uncle knows this is the right place for her.
McGaven is pleased to have Katie back but her mind is partially still on finding out what happened to Chad.
With more victims found, McGaven and Katie soon have their hands full trying to find the killer.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Her Dying Kiss, book ten in the Detective Katie Scott series, delivered an explosive fast paced read which will appeal to fans of murder mysteries.

The story picks up one month after the disappearance of Katie’s fiancee. She struggles with balancing the pain of her loss with performing her detective duties. Her latest case involving an apparent copy cat serial case adds to her struggles. However, Katie, being a resilient and diligent detective, pushed to stop the killer’s rampage.

While following leads, Katie discovered evidence linking the investigation to her fiancée's disappearance. This apparent connection fuels Katie’s desire to solve the case.

Suspense and a well-developed mystery kept me glued to the pages. Katie’s pain was palpable, which had this reader hoping she would get answers regarding Chad’s disappearance.

Now, while the case relating to the serial killer was solved, the questions relating to Chad’s disappearance were left unanswered. This left me disappointed with the end of this installment, but have me eager for the next book.

Fans of thrillers and suspense will want to add Her Dying Kiss to their reading list. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

She wondered how much heartache a person could take.”

Going back to work was difficult for Detective Katie Scott. It has been over a month since her fiancé Chad disappeared without a trace. This left Katie broken. Along with her partner McGavin, as well as her canine partner, Cisco, Katie is working to investigate what appears to be a copycat serial killer case. She struggles to remain focused on the case, with constant thoughts of Chad.

Katie plows forward on the case of a murdered young woman. The manner of death was brutal and Katie is determined to find the killer before another life is lost. Details begin to surface during Katie’s investigation, and she begins to wonder if this case is connected to Chad’s disappearance.

What a thrilling book! I literally could not put it down. While Katie’s case was compelling, the mystery of Chad's disappearance kept me on tenterhooks. Now I find that I almost cannot wait for the next book in this stellar series, especially as the ending left me wanting for more.

Many thanks Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Arrrrrrggghhh why did it have to end there? I honestly hand on heart think this has got to be the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers in all the years I have been reading!

If you are after a book that has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster and has you second guessing everything than this is the one for you and if you haven't yet read the whole series WHY THE HELL NOT?

I have been a huge fan of this series from the very first chapter of Little Girls Sleeping and wait in anticipation for every new installment, book #11 will be no exception.

Detective Katie Scott is enjoying a cabin break with her fiance Chad, when she awakes the next morning he is gone without a trace. No communication, no leads as to where he has gone... Katie is distraught. Locking herself away with her K-9 dog Cisco she sees no way forward, unaware of what is happening around her and the case her partner McGaven is having to investigate without her.

The whole team are missing Katie and the unique way she investigates crime scenes until her uncle who is also the Sheriff ask her to return and help solve the case.

Young women have been found strangled and with their eyes removed, Katie feels the crime scenes are staged and reminiscent of a past serial killer but he's serving a life sentence in solitary confinement. Has he somehow orchestrated all of this or is there a copycat on the loose?

This is a real edge of your seat, explosive thriller that had me forgetting to breathe at times! My only gripe is the fact that the explosive cliffhanger has left me freaking out not knowing what's happened 🤣

A massive thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

I've LOVED all books in the Katie Scott series. Each book always felt better and a level up from the last one, complete with unique plots and characters. Her Dying Kiss is the tenth book in the series but there were several misses from my perspective.
1. The titles always make sense to me, but this one definitely didn't. I don't know what the inspiration was behind 'Her Dying Kiss' is but it has almost nothing to very little to do with the plot this time.
2. All books so far have had riveting, fabulous, page turning stuff happening. There's always been a lot of suspense, twists & a healthy dose of action. This book sadly felt 'scattered' which left me very confused. Katie was all over the place & not completely herself, understandably yes but it came across as repetitive. This whodunnit did not feel like the familiar Katie Scott I've come to know. The narration in the previous installments was usually very detailed & flows seamlessly chapter after chapter. I sadly did not have the same experience with this book.
3. Every book usually has deep insights into the case victims and their history. This had nothing of that sort. Apart from their names and a handful background details there's almost nothing about the victims.
4. Repeatedly and knowingly putting herself in danger came across as very callous. I know Katie is tenacious but it seems like Katie is starting to come undone. (Please tell me I'm wrong)

The only new character introduced in this book is that of Evan & I can't wait to see how he's worked into the storyline in the future. Cisco was a goddamn rockstar - as usual. I wish there were more for him & Max to do in the story.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Jennifer Chase for this arc!

Her Dying Kiss is book 10 in the Detective Katie Scott series by Jennifer Chase. If you've never read a book in the series you will be okay starting with this one. Her Dying Kiss starts with Katie and Chad getting away for a weekend at a friend's cabin. They're very happily engaged to be married and looking forward to their future together. As they are drinking some wine and relaxing by the fire they don't think life could get much better. In the early morning hours, Katie awakens and reaches out for Chad. He's not in bed beside her and his side is cold. She notices a funny taste in her mouth as she gets up to find Chad. That's when she sees some blood leading to the door and Chad's bag is gone. What is going on and what happened to Chad? Their SUV is still in the driveway and there are no footprints so what happened?

Katie begins to panic a bit and calls it in. As her partner and the team arrive to look for forensic evidence they find out that the wine was drugged. Who would drug her and Chad and why? Katie is so upset that she takes time off. She has to do everything in her power to find Chad and it's best to do that from home. The team is working on the case as well and they keep Katie up to date. Katie is so sad that she can't function. She's not sleeping, not eating much, and is barely holding on. Thank God for her dog, Cisco. She and Cisco have been a team for a long time and they rely on each other.

While Katie is off, the team gets a new case. It's a murder case with a woman wrapped in burlap, her pinkie finger cut off, and her eye cut out. McGaven, Katie's partner, wishes she was here to help with the scene as she sees things that others don't. Katie finds out about the case from her uncle and decides to come back and help. It will be a good distraction from Chad's missing persons case. The woman is identified as Gina Hartfield and the autopsy reveals that she was washed before she was placed at the scene. There is no evidence to be found on the body. Katie comes across a newspaper article as she's scouring the crime scene. The article is about Katie's previous cases and is pinned to a nearby tree. Why would that article be of importance? Is someone trying to get to Katie?

Another body is found and she is also missing a pinkie finger and an eye. It seems there is a serial killer on the loose and he doesn't wait long to claim his next victim. These cases are eerily similar to cases from years ago. That serial killer, Simon Holden, is in prison. Is this a copycat or is he orchestrating what's happening from behind bars? Will Katie be able to solve the case before more bodies are found? Will Simon Holden help Katie? Why does Simon Holden mention Chad to Katie? Did he have something to do with Chad's disappearance? Does he know who did? This is a phenomenal suspense thriller that you will have a hard time putting down. I rate Her Dying Kiss 5 stars and give it my highest recommendation. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Her Dying Kiss in exchange for a fair review.

Explosive event after explosive event through every twist of this book!

The book starts with a bang when Chad, Detective Katie Scott’s fiancé, disappears from the cabin they are staying in together. A month later she returns to work to try to find more clues on his disappearance, and help her partner solve a new crop of serial murders popping up.

I’ve been a huge fan of this series from the beginning, and This book is twisty and action packed as always. Loved it and didn’t want to put it down! My only complaint is that a huge part of the storyline was left on a cliffhanger, and I’m freaking out not knowing the conclusion to that part. Can’t wait for the next adventure and to see if we get any resolution in the next book!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback!

A cliffhanger? These types of books are not "supposed" to have cliffhangers, and this is the second in one month. The main crime was resolved, but a secondary story was left hanging. Regardless, another good entry in this series.

There’s no doubt that this was fast paced. But honestly I didn’t love a certain aspect of the storyline and as I suspected it didn’t get solved which really didn’t work for me.

I have never been a big fan of that part of the series because for me it did not flow but to shift and do this just left me feeling jilted.

The story was fast and twisty but for some reason the rest really left a bitter taste in my mouth. I’ll be reading the next to see where she takes it but I have a feeling.

THE SERIES THAT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER … AND BETTER!

It’s reconnecting time. And what better way of rediscovering bliss than renting a cabin in the woods for a nice long weekend of romance. With a respite in their hectic schedules, Katie Scott and her uber handsome fiancé Chad Ferguson jump at the chance to do just that. It doesn’t take long for those neglected sparks to reignite into passion. But you know Katie, she doesn’t leave things to chance, so just to make sure, she and her bestest break out the bubbly, certain it will seal the deal. With a fire going on in the fireplace, they toast and kick back—and it's right about then that everything goes black. She awakens hours later, disoriented and alone. A desperate search for the love of her life is conducted and confirms two things: that Chad has disappeared—and that her worst nightmare has come true.

Thus begins author Jennifer Chase’s newest thriller HER DYING KISS … Chase’s #bestentryever! The pace as furious as Cisco hot on the heels of a bad guy, Detective Katie Scott’s arms aren’t the only thing that’s full in this humdinger of a mystery! But what could be going on that would fill her arms, bathtub, and grain silo with more trouble than she can handle? How about the discovery of a young woman’s body in the woods. And the discovery of one teensy-weensy body is enough to keep her that busy? Well, it is if the homicide has eerie similarities to an entire string of serial killings that occurred almost twenty years ago. So what you’re trying to say is that things are complex? They can be and are when you consider that Katie’s prime objective is to prevent a copycat killer from depriving more young women of oxygen. As in the atmosphere officially getting ratcheted up to intense? Yes! Especially when the resurgence of a copycat killer may be connected to Chad’s disappearance!

As with all entries in the Detective Katie Scott series, the writing and the attention to detail are spectacular, and it’s the sophistication and compelling terminology used to describe police procedures that gives legitimacy to what happens. It also leads us to the conclusion that the author knows whereof she speaks. But there’s another aspect that is just as important and it’s that there’s a real genuineness to the characters … most especially Katie Scott. It’s this refreshing honesty that makes her so relatable—and so vulnerable. And the fragility doesn’t take away from her strength or competence. It instead assures us pulling for her to succeed in overcoming doubts as she dives into the nerve-shattering suspense needed to solve the latest puzzle.

Of course, the entire roster of people we love are back. After all, it wouldn’t be a Detective Katie Scott book without them. But this time the roster includes a couple of surprises … for both we readers and for Katie. And I did want to assure Cisco fans, our favorite K9 is on hand and prepared to mix things up as he sniffs out trouble and keeps his human out of harm’s way. I have to confess that I love Cisco and wait for the moment he makes an appearance and is put through his paces. Can’t get enough of him.

So what can I say except that this is the series that just keeps getting better and better! Loved cheering for her in this very tricky outing, and look forward to more from the author! Five stars from me and a shout out to keep those new books coming!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Dying Kiss, the tenth novel to feature Detective Katie Scott, of the fictional Pine Valley, California Sheriff’s Office.

A month after Katie’s fiancé, Chad, disappeared in mysterious circumstances she is once more at a murder scene. Gina Hartfield is lying in a mountain clearing, her body washed, her eyes and pinkie finger removed. A newspaper article about one of her and her partner, Sean “Gav” McGavin’s cases makes her think it is personal and may be linked to Chad’s disappearance.

I enjoyed Her Dying Kiss, which is a different kind of novel to its predecessors. There is still the violence and multiple murders, but they almost come second to Katie’s terrible sadness and struggle to keep focus on her case.

There isn’t much new in the serial killer plot line in this novel and I’m more than ok with that as I like the weird crime scenes and the way the investigation gathers information to drill down on a suspect. There isn’t much to go on, so the novel is full of action scenes, where Katie gets physical damage to go with her emotional hurt. It’s exciting and keeps the reader fully engrossed right up till the denouement, which takes the form of an explosive showdown. The action in it is great as usual, but I thought that the explanations were rather low key and a bit of an afterthought to all the action and emotions. I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, more of a “is that it?” feeling. Still, the journey to get there was absorbing and entertaining, if blanketed in Katie’s misery.

Katie is a tough cookie, but Chad’s disappearance has blunted her thought processes and made her lose some of her get up and go and sparkle. She’s a bit dreary in the novel, but I applaud the author for trying something different and keeping the series fresh. There is a sense that this may be the start of a new direction where feelings have a stronger emphasis. Time will tell.

Her Dying Kiss is a good read that I can recommend.

Pow, pow, pow... the punches just kept coming in this high octane thriller. I am shocked and speechless, and I am never speechless. Detective Katie Scott is enjoying a night away at a cabin with her future husband, Chad, who is a hunky firefighter. She wakes up the next morning, and he is missing. It is if he simply vanished. There are no clues to be found; not even tire marks. She withdraws and cannot seem to function. However, her team needs her when a gruesome discovery is made. They ask her to please come back and use her special skills to help them track a vicious killer. A young woman's body is found. She has been strangled, completely cleansed and her eyes are missing. That fact gave me chills. When another body is found in the same condition, they know they have a serial killer on the loose. The more chilling fact is that these murders closely resemble the work of a serial killer who is in prison. The more they work on this case, the more Katie is convinced that Chad's disappearance is connected to this ruthless killer. The killer leaves odd clues that seem to connect to Chad. It is a race against the clock to find the killer before he strikes again. The action was jet-fueled and explosive, literally. They are up against a cold, calculating killer who is a savage.

Katie is a highly intelligent woman with keen observation skills, and she knows how to read people well. She also has no fear and is always on protection duty. She is former military and it shows in her reactions and actions. I love her K-9, Cisco. He is also a highly trained officer. The mystery is complex, and I could not figure it out no matter how many clues were provided. If you enjoy a high octane mystery/police procedural, you will enjoy this book and this series. I now anxiously await the next book in the series.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Her Dying Kiss by Jennifer Chase
Detective Katie Scott #10

Intense, dark, difficult, emotional story that sees Katie and her team working to find a serial killer while she deals with the disappearance of her fiancé…

What I liked:
* Katie: ex-military K-9 trainer & handler, cold case police detective, loves her fiancé, good friend, good leader, puzzle solver, works for her uncle the sheriff, works well with her team, loves her K-9 partner, suffers from PTSD, has a heavy load to deal with this time with many friends to help and support her
* Cisco: Katie’s black German Shepherd K-9 partner who has been with her to war and was discharged into her arms. He’s there for her no matter what, companion to Katie, skilled at his job, loving and protective, helps ground Katie
* Chad: Katie’s fiancé, fireman, diver, preparing to become a fire investigator. Disappears mysteriously at the beginning of the book.
* Deputy Sean McGaven: Katie’s work partner, calm, inquisitive, strong, positive, personable, a great work partner, and in a relationship with Denise
* Evan: ex K-9 trainer in the military, works for a nearby police department, there for Katie during this book, knew Katie in the military and there was a spark between them at the time
* The supporting characters – new to and already established in the series
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The police procedural aspects and how the twists & turns were dealt with
* Getting to see Cisco and Mac working in their K-9 jobs with Katie and Evan
* Learning a bit more about K-9 training

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The big mystery still unsolved at the end of the book…there may be more than one of them

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC – This is my honest review.

For the tenth book in the established Detective Katie Scott series, author Jennifer Chase does an excellent job at making this installment seem new and fresh. Paired with the author’s extensive research, this book was an intriguing thriller from start to finish.

Katie Scott’s latest mystery is kickstarted by the disappearance of her fiance, Chad, which leaves her in a strung out and vulnerable state. While his case has mostly gone cold, the body of one Gina Hartfield is discovered, missing its eyes. As Katie begins investigating this murderer, not only does she find resemblances to the crimes of a serial killer long locked away, she also realizes the crime is more personal than it originally seemed.

Meeting Katie for the first time in this book was particularly interesting, as her emotional state is in tatters. Not only does she have to worry about this mysterious killer, who always seems to be one step ahead, but she is constantly reminded of her missing fiance. I truly felt for Katie, feeling connected to her more than I may have otherwise.

One of my personal favorite parts of the book was the killer. The second half of the book is entirely focused on Katie’s struggle to uncover just who this person is, and it seems like the mystery will never end. I was on the edge of my seat while reading, really feeling Katie’s distress everytime she was once again outsmarted.

Katie would have never been able to discover the killer’s identity if not for her loyal dog, Cisco, which is where most of Chase’s personal interests seem to lie. The book actually begins with a detailed foreward from a US Navy Veteran, describing how Navy Military Working Dogs are typically trained. Not only did this give me some very interesting context that I would not have had otherwise, but it solidified Chase’s own studies when writing these books.

It's always nice to see authors putting in the time and effort for their books, showing their true passion for the content they’re exploring. I’m a research nerd myself, so seeing that from Chase gave me a deeper respect for her.

After ten books in this series, I can’t help but wonder where Chase will go next in her writing. By the end of this installment, Chad is still missing, and Katie’s mental and physical health only seems to be spiraling deeper and deeper.

However, I believe that Chase has proven herself as having a great grasp on this world, and this book’s cliffhanger has only made me hungry for more of it. I would definitely recommend this to any prior Detective Katie Scott fans, and if you haven’t delved into this series before, take this as your push to start!

Her Dying Kiss is the 10th book in Detective Katie Scott series and it started out with a strong opening when Katie’s fiancée went missing one day without a trace.
For Katie, this is a new tough reality where she has to keep going to work but also worry about her fiancé – Chad.

The plot is quite complicated with so many leads which somehow got mixed up together. It’s quite difficult to separate which one is for the serial killer case and which one is for Chad or whether both case are connected. That might be the reason why it's so hard for me to figure out the culprit because my focus is all over the place.

I really like how the other characters such as Det. Sean, John, Katie’s uncle and friends are all trying to help and support her on her worst day.
I also admire Katie because her sadness didn’t keep her too long from her work to keep saving other people and solving difficult cases.

While I enjoy most of it, the ending felt a bit too rushed when Katie and her friends confront the culprit.
I also wish there’s more progress about Chad’s missing case.

Overall, it’s a good addition and it also felt different compare to the previous books I’ve read by making it more personal to Katie’s life with Chad’s disappearance.
I’m looking forward to read the next book, I want to know how Katie is gonna save Chad and be happy together again.

I am always such a fan of a case being personal for a detective and it seems in this one, the case ends up linked to something very personal, the disappearance of the detective’s fiancé. Or so Katie’s new case appears to indicate. How have I not read this series before now? I was drawn into this one before the book even begins and it wasn’t the cover, but a foreword or acknowledgement by a specialist in training dogs for the military that helped the author with her facts. I always seem to forget how much research an author does when they use that research seamlessly in the plot.

This is a fast paced story, that upped the stakes in the prologue if that is possible. How does someone disappear into thin air leaving just a trail of blood, but no footprints? I was left to ponder that as the story jumped forward into the Katie’s life after her fiancé’s disappearance. This easily reads as a standalone unless you count that cliffhanger at the end. What is it with series doing this? And then making us wait for what seems like forever to see what happens next?

Katie is highly observant and that increases when she is paired with Cisco, her K9 dog. Shes an army veteran and very relatable in this story since I felt for her circumstances. The story is complicated and unravels at a quick pace. Seems I am a fan of this series and will have to look up the past cases while I wait to see what happens next.

Katie's fiance Chad has been missing for a month and she is frantic. Her colleagues distract her with a serial killer case but could there be a connection with Chad's disappearance?
Her Dying Kiss is the 10th book to feature Katie Scott, her K9 companion Cisco and the rest of the police team.
Katie is distraught when Chad disappears, leaving behind a blood splash. She has tracked down every lead but they have all come to nothing and now she is sat at home wallowing in self pity and fear. Her boss (and uncle) convinces her to join the search for a copycat serial killer but one clue relates to Chad.
The case is intensely personal for Katie as she frets about her lover. Her serial killer case is complex as she finds links between a killer in prison and the new murders. She is ably assisted by her partner McGaven and her old military mentor and his dog are on hand to help with Chad's disappearance.
There is plenty of forensic detail about the bodies but it is handled in an objective and scientific way which defuses the graphic content. The emotion comes from Katie's personal involvement and her fears about Chad's safety. She finds the lack of clues frustrating and demoralising especially given her occupation and success rate! Once again, Katie is put into extreme danger and the action sequences are tense and dramatic.
Her Dying Kiss is a tense and exciting thriller with a personal edge.

One month after detective Katie Scott's fiance Chad abruptly goes missing, her world has narrowed down to chasing down lead after lead in the hope of finding him. But to her frustration, nothing seems to yield any concrete results.

Meanwhile, a disturbing case lands on her desk: young, beautiful Gina Hartfield is found brutally murdered, her body carefully washed to remove all traces of her killer. Fearing more such killings to come, the local community is in an uproar.

So with a heavy heart, Katie realises that - despite her lack of success in locating Chad - she must now transfer her attention to hunting down Gina's killer. What Katie doesn't expect is to find is that she may have a personal connection to Gina's case.

While examining the crime scene, she comes across an article about some of her earlier cases pinned to a tree. And vehicle tire tracks found indicate a possible link to Chad's disappearance.

So, is Katie herself the common factor in these cases?

This was a serial killer storyline, which delivered a number of twists. The violence was a little graphic for me, but it was a quick read. This is a good fit for those who enjoy serial killer themes and don't mind a side of the grotesque to accompany their main dish.

4.5⭐

Detective Katie Scott is back in a cracker of a story.

As Katie faces her toughest case to date. As she and partner McGaven investigate a potential serial killer who is basing their kills on convicted killer Simon Holden.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg. As a month ago Katie's fiancée Chad disappeared whilst on a romantic weekend break with Katie. And there have been no sightings of him since or evidence to explain what happened. Apart from some drops of blood and a bottle of champagne laced with drugs.

However, Katie and her entire department are determined to find out what happened and bring Chad home.

The only problem is the more Katie searches for answers the less anything makes sense. Especially when it appears Chad's disappearance is linked to the killer she is currently hunting.

But how?

And will finding the killer mean finding Chad and bringing him home safely or has Katie lost him forever?

And with a storyline that grabbed me from the very first page, great pacing, shocks, twists and moments where I was literally screaming 'no way' at my Kindle. This was a brilliant read and my favourite of the series so far and I genuinely can't wait to find out what's going to happen next.

I would thoroughly recommend Her Dying Kiss to all.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Her Dying Kiss. 😊

'Her Dying Kiss' by Jennifer Chase is the 10th book in the Detective Katie Scott book. This story has been a bit unlike the other books. The underlying sadness in Katies life due to her personal loss of Missing Chad. The strength of character that she portrayed and the author was able to convey was beautiful

I have been reading this series since the early books and I am in love with Katie Scott. The character arc that she goes through in each of the story only gets better and better. This story is much more heart touching because of the way Katie works through the case despite her personal challenges. The chemistry between the team members and also the introduction of Evan into the story has really been amazing.. As usual Cisco, her K9 is there all through this.

This is a case where the serial killer who has comeback after may years and the perpetrator is already in jail, so who is doing the killings again? Read the story to find out.

I just would love to recommend this entire series although each can be read as stand alone. If you love kick ass detectives, then you have to read this and if you especially love women detective then you will definitely love this story.

Detective Katie Scott's fiance, Chad disappears from beside her in bed and she has followed every lead, but now the case is cold.

She returns to work when a woman's body is found in a clearing on Lookout Ridge with her eyes missing, and soon there is another body, and the locations of the corpses bring to mind a serial killer who is in prison.

Katie and her team have to find the killer before more women die. Katie visits the serial killer in prison and he has a parting remark for her which convinces her to believe that Chad's disappearance and the murders are linked.
The killer always seems to be one step ahead of the police, it's almost as if he is somehow getting information about the investigation.

A fast paced police procedural with lots of action, and twists and turns and false leads.
I did enjoy this very much, but the fact that Katie's trained dog did not bark or somehow warn her that there was someone outside did not sit well with me.
Another thing that left me quite gobsmacked was the reason the killer gave when he confessed as to why he killed so brutally.

Other than that, it was a good book. I can't give it the 4 stars that I intended to.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read an advance copy of Her dying kiss by Jennifer Chase. This is the 10th book in the Detective Katie Scott series, and I can't believe how much I love this series! This was a super fast read for me as I couldn't put the book down! I had no clue where the author was going! Katie is under extreme emotional distress as her fiance Chad has disappeared on their romantic getaway. As she is trying to figure out Chad's disappearance, her partner, McGaven is left dealing with a series of women's murders which seem to be a copycat of a case from years ago. When newspaper articles about her previous cases are found at the crime scenes, Katie begins to connect these murders to Chad's disappearance. Are the crimes being committed by a copycat, or is the convicted murderer somehow connected and playing a twisted game?
One of the reasons I love this series is the connection Katie has with her K-9 Cisco, her partner McGaven and Forensic specialist John Blackburn. They totally meld as a team. My only small complaint is the abrupt ending and hope the cliffhanger is resolved in the next book.
If anyone enjoys reading Sara Driscoll's FBI K-9 series, you will love the Katie Scott series!

Sometimes when something painful happens, you just want to lock yourself in to your little bubble, shutting everybody else out. Well; Katie is the same. She pretends to be fine, when she clearly is not, but she wants to be on her own (with Cisco of course :) ) and forget about everything but her sadness and her determination to find clues.

With a (little) push from someone close to her, she realises she needs her work and work needs her more than ever to catch a killer and stop him in his tracks.

Katie hopes that, with solving the murder case, will give her back what was taken from her so brutally...

I love how well Katie and Gav work together. Katie is the more impulsive one, sometimes wanting to act (or actually going for it) without thinking everything through. And then there is Gav, her perfect counterweight, reigning her in or at least trying to. :)

My favorite character? That has to be Cisco, but being a dog lover, every book with a dog makes them my favorite characters. :)

The author knows how to keep the suspense building, that's for sure. I cannot wait for book 11. Wonderful story as part of a wonderful series. 5 stars

Thank you

Explosive from start to finish! Literally!

Jennifer will have you racing through the pages from the first heart pounding, shock opening in book 10 of the Detective Katie Scott Series.

A serial killer is moving at a fast pace, taunting Katie and Gav. The crimes are too similar to those of a convicted serial killer which has them scrambling to determine is this a copycat or was the wrong man convicted of the earlier crimes and what links the man in prison to the current killer?

The killer always a step ahead, choreographing where the detectives will go next, I found myself suspicious of everyone, even those in Katies life when an old partner and K9 trainer Evan returns to her life.

Katie and Chad through each book I have kept wondering what is next for them, will they last? Will something happen with her and John and then enter a new player in Evan in this book.

Not so much a spoiler but a warning, this book does not tie up with a neat bow with all questions answered, and I'm trying to work out how long til book 11 and will it bring, happiness or heartache for Katie.

This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster. Our favorite man Chad has gone missing, and there are no clues and no leads, Katie is of course super distraught and isn't working or answering the phone for anyone.
When a clue is found at the scene of a murder that seems to point at Katie and Chad, Gavin and Katies other friends and family rally behind her and get her on the case. This was just what she needs along with some old friends to give her a boost in investigating what happened to her fiance.

I love Katies unique way of looking at cases and crime scenes, and I loved how even though she was severely missing Chad and wondering what happened to him she could still figure out what was going on with the killer.
Cisco as always is one of my favorite animal sidekicks and he always steals whatever scene he's in! We also get to learn more about Katies as we meet some new people from her past. The story kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next, and if we were going to figure out what happened to Chad. I loved the new characters, and McGavin and the Sheriff are still favorites.

I can't wait to see what the next book is going to bring!!!
