Dreams are said to be the mind's way of making sense of the various issues it deals with at any given time--be it work, family, health, relationships. Dreams help sort out all the information and events that are inputted during waking hours, creating a way for a person, free of conscious limitations, to understand what is really going on, to solve problems, to gain clarity and insight into a situation, issue, or other human being.
10,000 DREAMS INTERPRETED is an exploration of various dream images so that the dreamer can gain a better understanding of himself, his world, and his life. Three different interpretations are offered for most images: the conventional one, the psychological one, and then the spiritual one. By understanding all three meanings, the dreamer is able to understand the emotional content, the symbolism, and the reason for each dream image. For instance:
Angels: The traditional interpretation when dreaming of angels is that one is searching for a parental figure to give unconditional love. The psychological meaning is a need to study the relationship between dreamer and his/her mother. And the spiritual interpretation is a search for enlightenment.
In A-to-Z format, the various ways of looking at and understanding the 10,000 dreams in this book provide a remarkable guide to coping with life, improving oneself, and understanding those around us.
This is an excellent reference book which I’ve used in my dream interpretation work for nearly 2 decades. My copy of “10 000 Dreams Interpreted” is dog-eared and tatty from overuse but, together with Alice Anne Parker’s “Understand Your Dreams”, it’s the dream reference book I immediately turn to for dream work.
Although the symbols and interpretations are strongly Westernised, they are useful, easy to understand and provide excellent detail. The dream symbol interpretation in the book may not give me a description of the exact strange & wonderful imagery that pops up in dreams, but they usually provide enough information that triggers a “big picture” view of the dream, making the dream’s significance clear.
Have you ever waken up and wonder? Wonder, what is it that your dream means. Quite often we wake up in the cold sweat or happy and it molds the way our day will be. Well, dreams are like that. Dreams can make you feel good or bad. They can make you think or try to forget. You can wake up in tears, laughter, confused or in deep thoughts.
Dreams are never what they seem and their meaning usually differs from what you actually see. We have dreams where we laugh or cry. There are deaths, births, war, love and anything you can possibly imagine that appears in our dreams. What does it all mean? How can we get an answer to the worlds greatest mystery? Are there any explanations to what the reality is and what is the actual meaning?
Format The format is great. It has index to be able to find the information you are looking for relatively easy. There are chapters that relate the information by specific category, such as Weather or Rocks and Minerals. There is a small explanation about the category in general.
Each chapter has information on the variety of elements that fall into that category. There are great pictures to bring out more beauty into this wonderful book. And each element has different paragraphs depending on the nature of the appearance, such as AIR: cold air and hot air. So, the same element in the different form has different explanations.
Content 10,000 Dreams Interpreted is about the world of dreams. There are explanations of what you see and what the meaning is. It is a wonderful book with beautiful pictures and the examples on the subject. There are many ways you can wake up and understand the worst is actually something that means you will be blessed with a fortune. There is no true straightforward meaning when you are talking about dreams. The explanations in the book cover the way you see things and what you see. Those things are explained to what the theory of their meaning is.
Let me give you an example of what the book says about different dream events.
Infants - to dream of seeing a newly born INFANT, denotes that pleasant surprises are nearing you.
Tassels - to see a TASSEL in a dream, denotes that you will reach the height of your desires.
Lizard - to see a LIZARD, foretells attacks upon you by enemies.
Air - to dream of breathing HOT AIR, suggests that you will be influenced to evil by oppression. To feel COLD AIR in your dream denotes discrepancies in your business affairs, and incompatibilities in the sphere of domestic relations.
So, as you can see, these dreams are not what they seem to be according to their meanings. The explanations are derived from theories, philosophy and legends. Whether or not they are true, may be?
There is also a history and what some people presumed the dreams to be. Some of the world's famous philosophers had various theories on the Dream State and how it relates to our lives. Some people assume the dreams to be the connection between our body and our spirit. Some thought it is a message from God. There are theories that the dreams can foretell the future of our lives or of the lives of people who are close to us. The book talks of, where the theories came from and what did people make out of them through the changes in time. Civilization always found explanations for what is real and what is not.
Personal Note There were several movies, which were based on the dreams. Some that come to mind are Dreamscape and Dream a Little Dream. They are based on the dreams being able to control our lives and the way we can hurt or protect others. Are these movies exaggerations or are they in some way a reality? Can we alter our dream state, can we be able to actually change the way we feel and the way we are, through our dreams? Can there be a logical explanation to what we see in our somewhat subconscious state? May be, who knows, but one thing for sure is that when you wake up after a nice dream, it makes your whole day.
That is why this book is not just something you will read once. You will use it as a reference. You will wake up and run to your book shelve to see what your dreams meant. It is a very informative and interesting piece of literature.
Conclusion It is just interesting and fun to find out these things. I enjoy the subject of dreams and I was fascinated by the way it has a meaning to our lives. May be it is our conscious thoughts, something that we were worrying ourselves about throughout the day. It might mean something we were doing a while back and our subconscious memory is breaking through. There is no perfect explanation to what exactly dreams are, what makes them come and feel our picture like sleeping stage, but the book is just great, entertaining and has some of the answers to the world’s secret. I like it and if you are interested in nature of your dreams or the dreams of others, I would strongly recommend it.
Image symbolism communicates without the use of written language. This pictorial language is useful for me personally as an artist and writer, giving me an additional tool in which to express and communicate with others.
actually a psych book which explains dreams in terms of Jungian symbols, myths and archetypes. consistently useful if you find dreams difficult to understand, and less costly than a shrink or therapist, and more entertaining. most dreams are rather simple to explain once you get the rubric down.
This is actually a question, not a review lol. Where in the book would i look for a dream about having children ? I had a dream i had a whole family, wife & 4 children. Where would i find some info on this in this book ?
Good Book bought it in Canberra 2006......excellent interpretations, refer to it like a bible now and again......sort of book you keep in the bedside cabinet.
This was a very helpful book! I help my friend figure out what her nightmares meant. I also helped my brother figure out what certain things in he's dream meant. This is an amazingly helpful book!
